Mayday ''Standards'' and Ultimate Guard ''Premium'' are some almost-a-penny soft sleeve lines. But I cannot honestly recommend using soft sleeves.

KMC Perfect Fits/Size are a touch more sturdy and thick, but still relatively thin. I can recommend these, but they are meant to be the inner when double sleeving, so they won't totally cover the top edge of the card though.

However, my method is use proper sleeves and toss out the inserts and if necessary move to deck boxes. Options include small, medium, large, also large. Links for example. May not represent the best price and certainly do not represent the only options.

Edit: Obligatory BGG Card Sleeve Sizes for games link. A great resource.

ABSOLUTELY watch all that, but if you don't have the time I'll give you the highlights.

For a regular deck box, Legion and Ultimate Guard make great boxes that tend to fit more than their reported value.

If you want to get fancy, any of the Ultimate Guard Flip'n'Tray or Monolith boxes are awesome. Also the Ultra Pro Satin Tower, pretty much the same as the Monolith.

If you need something as cheap as possible while also holding all your stuff (like d20s and d6s), the Ultra Pro Pro-Dual box will hold a full 75 card deck in one compartment and a Chessex 36ct d6 box and some d20s in the other.

Other than that I like the Ultimate Guard Deck'n'Tray, It holds a deck like the boxes with a tray for counters and dice.

The box I've got actually fits the upgrade cards nicely. I've got one of these deck boxes and the left side of it is pretty much perfect to hold upgrade cards with minimal wasted space (while pilot cards go in the right side, upright).

I'm going to give a tepid recommendation of the Gambit packs: if you want some solo scenarios to learn the cards and whatnot, there are several cards which give the rules for the bosses from the digital version. You'd have more "real" practice with the digital version, because these solo scenarios tend to muck with the strategy a bit, but it's still a fun diversion.

In terms of non-Star Realms things you might consider:

  • Something to track life. Star Realms comes with "authority cards" to do this, which everyone hates. Use your smart phone, search for "life tracker app" or "simple points tracker". If your phone battery is too important to waste, these are fun and fit in a deck box. Speaking of which....
  • A good deck box to keep the various expansions together, as the retail box is too small. I like the branded one well enough, but there are unbranded ones a bit cheaper.
  • The branded sleeves are awful, despite being made by the same people as the other two links. I sleeved because the starters were showing more wear than everything else, but resleeved with a different brand after a few months.

Otherwise, you're getting solid advice from other users, so I'll shut up.

Thanks man, I went with that math.

Ended up getting 4 of the pilot card size (2 Luke and 2 Vader)

The FFG yellow sleeves sold out before I could get them!
So I got these

A bit late, but I use this deckbox to store and transport multiple smaller cardgames. One box holds Love Letter, Hanabi and Cthulhu Fluxx sleeved, for example.

I have my double sleeved EDH deck in this. There's a little extra room for tokens and whatnot. I use the extra space for other cards I may try out in the deck.

Ultra Pro Dual Deck Box

Ultra Pro Dual Deck will hold 2 decks and 24 dice. You can put 2 decks in 1 half and dice in other with provided divider or deck and dice on same side. It's a little tight if you expand the decks to much beyond the starter, but these should be readily available at your local store and are durable.
Monster Protector's Double Deck Box is a similar option for amount of cards and dice to hold and also affordable.
I personally use a Ultimate Gaurd 160 for 4 decks and Plano tackle boxes for dice at the moment. However, to be really economical you could just start with a simple 200 card cardboard box generally less than $1 at a comic/game shop.

If you want to see a more ideas he's an earlier post with pics.

You can try the Ultra Pro Pro Dual deckbox.

It's designed to carry two sleeved Magic decks with sideboards (2x 75 cards) and comes with two plastic separators, which can help you sort. It's also cheap (7 or 8 bucks) and is available on Amazon Prime. A good compromise of carrying capacity and compactness for transportation.

Damia is double-sleeved in Ultra Pro (outer) and KMC Perfects (inner), soon to be upgraded to KMC Hyper Mattes. That is if I can figure out how to smash the air out of them enough for EDH. Otherwise my deck would topple over.

This is my current box. I like it well enough and it isn't too tight of a fit.

I'm not a foiler, but I do like having NM original (or older/favorite) printings, so I like to protect the deck well.

My Sharuum and Sliver decks are just single-sleeved Ultra Pro currently in the 100 card clear boxes from WalMart.
