For the small cards, I used the FFG Mini European Board Game Sleeves, and for the larger cards I used UltraPro standard size sleeves.
From my experience the grey FFGs are indeed quite rare where I live aswell. That's why I stick to Ultra Pro and Arcane Tinmen. It's surprising you have a hard time finding UP though. They are probably the most popular of them all. Do you buy in your FLGS or online? They are on Amazon aswell.

well, because of the size. Often players use the "perfect sleeves", the ones you were looking at 64 x 89mm, inside your "standard sized" card sleeves like these
The "penny sleeves" are too big and cause bulging in the standard sleeve.
