You need a LAN adapter.

If you're wondering what other game to get, I would recommend you getting Stealth Inc. 2, Pier Solar, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Pushmo World, Unepic, Armillo, Mighty Switch Force, Scram Kitty, Nano Assault Neo, Puddle, Steamworld Dig, Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut, NES Remix, Teslagrad, Master Reboot, Ittle Dew, Stick It to the Man, Cubemen 2, Ballpoint Universe: Infinite, Edge, Toki Tori, and Another World.

The Wii usb adapters work just fine on Wii U.

Yeah, it doesn't even support an Ethernet cable connection out of the box. If you wanted to connect it wired for some reason, you'd have to buy one of these.

I know this is a bit off topic, but what I wish was still in production was the official Lan Adaptor for the Wii U. I got an off-brand adaptor and my gameplay online dramatically improved.

Here is the one I bought. Totally worth it for those who have access to a wired connection near your Wii U
I wanted the official, but they were asking close to 50-70 dollars for it... If I ever get the spare cash, I may still take the dive because I'm the kind of person who is about "all official nintendo products", but for now this will do.

The wiiu HAS an ethernet. Not defending it's still a shit console.
