the resistance to rotating is a function of the instrument's moment of inertia (in the same way that the resistance to accelerating is a function of its mass).

looking at amazon listings for each instrument (trombone, marching baritone) gives an estimate of the weight and lengths:

Instrument | Dimensions | Weight
---|---|----
Trombone | 58.6 x 10.8 x 10.8 inches* | 10.83 lbs
Marching Baritone | 25.4 x 17.9 x 14.6 inches | 19.15 lbs

the listing for the trombone has its length as 35 inches. i'm not a brassematician, but i am vaguely aware that you can extend a trombone, and this yamaha page suggests that its maximum extended length is 60 cm. so 60 cm + 35 inches = 58.6 inches.

the difficulty of rotating each instrument would depend on the axis about which you were trying to rotate it. here is a diagram of some possible axes you might choose. the green axis maximizes the effect of the increased length of the trombone. the red axis also maximizes the length effect, with the additional restriction that the axis passes through the center of mass of each instrument. the purple axis is selected as an example of a choice of axis that favors the marching baritone.

i approximated the instruments as being prisms the size of their outer dimensions with a uniform density and applied the relevant formulas for moment of inertia to obtain the following table:

Instrument | Axis through middle (green)| Axis at edge (red) | Axis at edge (purple)
---|---|---|----
Trombone | 3205 in^2 lbs | 12502 in^2 lbs | 526 in^2 lbs
Marching baritone | 1370 in^2 lbs | 4459 in^2 lbs | 2385 in^2 lbs

so it is very possible for the increased length of the trombone to cause it to be more difficult to rotate, but it is very dependent upon how you're rotating each instrument.
