A pretty good supplement that you can buy for cheap on amazon is supposed to be great for anxiety. Personally, I don't suffer from anxiety but I take this supplement because I find that when I drink caffeine after taking it that it improves the alertness and clarity of mind effects and minimizes the strung out, jittery effects and doesn't keep me awake. It is called L-Theanine.

I feel like I should clarify. I think that talking to your Dr. about your anxiety is a great idea. There are some decent medication options that could help both your anxiety and your migraines. So it would be a good conversation to have.

My point above is that you should state that you are NOT interested in taking any benzos. But be open to other options. My rule is that I always do research on a medication before I start taking it. And I always start by googling [MedicationName Withdrawal] and see what comes up. Some Drs are all to quick to prescribe stuff without giving any thought to the fact that getting off of the medication is going to be painful.

Ok that said, here's my recommendation for some non-prescription stuff you can investigate to reduce your anxiety.

  • Magnesium. This can be very calming.
  • L-Theanine
  • 5-HTP This may increase your levels of Serotonin. This can possibly make your migraines better or worse. Differs by the individual.
  • Kava
  • Valerian Root
  • GABA I've heard that "PharmaGABA" is much more likely to be effective that plain old GABA. Do some research. I don't really know.
  • The All-In-One There are a number of these formulations. They just combine a bunch of stuff listed above.

So there's some stuff you should do some research on. Some may relieve your anxiety but make your migraines worse. Some may be beneficial for both anxiety and migraines. It'll really be a trial and error to find out what works for your 'migraine brain'.

I've provided Amazon links, but you can honestly get most of these at your local Drug Store (CVS, Walgreens, etc.)

Remember always do your research, whether its a recommendation from your Dr, or some internet stranger. It's all just data points. Digest it, research it, and then make your own decision on what's right for your situation. I wish you the best!!

This is a nearly constant bane in my life also.

I have found that putting one half of a 100mg chewable 5HTP under each side of my tongue about 30 minutes before I'm supposed to engage in a typically "exciting" event helps a lot, and if I'm unprepared in this regard that simply smiling and acting bashful goes a long way in ensuring that others are allowed to enjoy the event without my cynicism.

Otherwise it takes my feeling a sense of deep personal accomplishment from an event. Like when my current human-project showed me her 1-year token from NA. That was a huge mark of pride for me...but now, two years later, the thought of helping someone else do it again just seems boring. Very much a "been there, done that" situation, even though I know how fucked up that viewpoint on the matter is.

It's an antidepressant (low serotonin is depressing and leads to low melatonin and thus sleep issues). Small caveat - take low doses at first; some people have strong serotonin receptors in their small intestine; if the 5-HTP hits these after it leaves the stomach, it will cause some spectacular nausea. Only the first 1-2 times, then it goes away for whatever reason, maybe the receptors get used to it. It's worth it to ignore this/work through it, the improvement is very noticeable, within days. Read the reviews on Amazon on any 5-HTP product. If you don't want to go the pill route, increase the turkey, banana and almond intake in your diet, they have the highest amounts. I find the 5-HTP a lot easier. I buy it in a bulk form https://www.amazon.com/BulkSupplements-5-HTP-Griffonia-Extract-Powder/dp/B00GW40WJC the dose is tiny, 1/32 of a tsp. Basically a sprinkle, and the smallest bag lasts months. Take it at night and start it on a weekend or whenever you can start it without worrying if it makes you sick the first time or two. Sorry about the caveat but better to know about it and realize it's limited and maybe in 20% of people, than give up on it. Most pills available are 25-50 mg, that's a LOT - be careful with them. You can open them up and take less to see how you react.

Sleep aid eh? Check out 5-HTP, it's safe and does an amazing job. I take it and I've recommended it to others who have seen good results. As with anything, read up on it.

Thanks, I'll look for that! I've been taking this, but I'm not sure I'm seeing any difference. 😒

My partner started taking this GABA supplement and has found that his cravings for smoking and alcohol have gone down dramatically. I highly recommend it!

The way it is presented in the bottle it's not normal, it's confusing. And not every seed has the same amount of 5-HTP.

Example. https://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Non-GMO-Gluten-Veggie/dp/B00FGA5RX4/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=doctor%27s%2Bbest%2B5-htp&qid=1564961309&s=gateway&sr=8-4&th=1

0 confusion.

I do, you dumbass. Don't assume things. Some people are poor which is why I'm asking who was your vendor(kind of one of the points of this sub Reddit as well).
Here is where I got mine from: Life Extension L-Theanine 100 mg, 60 Vegetarian Capsules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSH7LXS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Zpn4AbDBZCHZZ
