I've published a collection of my poetry that includes 62 poems and my original artwork. It covers my struggle with anxiety, depression, and insomnia. I began writing it after seeking out help for my issues. My one hope is that my words can let others with similar issues, hopes, and dreams know that they aren't alone in this world.

These poems were very relieving to write. Some are based on dreams I had and one, Her Ghost, is based on a real hypnagogic hallucination. This is my first time writing and I was particularly surprised at the positive feedback that I've received from others that weren't friends or family. Hopefully, others out there can get something out of my writing. I appreciate any feedback or comments.

A short poem from one of my collections:

It's one of those bathroom emergencies

they tell you about in kindergarten

where you are drinking and pissing at the same time

for the rest of your life

forever

and they make your bathroom into a museum

where you are the centerpiece

frozen in time

a living fountain

that eventually sells for a million dollars at auction

and is permanently installed

in an old man's closet

Oh — you're in for a treat. Son of FR Scott and best known for his critiques of deep politics and American foreign policy: Check out 'Coming to Jakarta'. It's amazing.

I self-published my debut poetry collection awhile back called Strange Cars in the Night, which plays as sort of a love letter to road trips with the windows down at dusk, moonstruck weirdness, jukebox radio oldies, jarring highway solitude, all with a splash of comedy thrown in. Here’s the book description from Amazon:

“Strange Cars in the Night is a savage debut poetry collection that moves at breakneck speed, written in the taste of a modern-day Hunter S. Thompson. It continues to unfurl Eric's stream of conscious writing style onto the page and depicts an almost hallucinogenic recounting of what happens every night when the moon comes out to play.”

My debut novel The Dioramist was self-published last April as well. It’s a coming of middle-twenties age dramedy (in the way of a literary John Hughes/Judd Apatow) about a man who struggles with the long love story of his life and his yearning to pursue creative writing. It’s an adult picture book with sketches that go right along with the story. The book itself is the main character’s diary, which comes across to the reader in a stream-of-consciousness format. Here is the description from Amazon:

“The titular character in Eric Keegan’s The Dioramist is in the throes of a quarter-life crisis. He may only be in his midtwenties, but the dioramist finds himself lost and confused. He has spent so much of his time in an ill-defined relationship that he doesn’t understand himself apart from his partner.

When a friend suggests that he begin writing down his inner thoughts, hopes, and dreams, our hero sets off on an adventure that shows him a new passion in life. Writing becomes fundamental to his identity, but he isn’t sure if he has the courage to share his thoughts with the world.

At the same time, he struggles with his relationship with his ex-girlfriend Elizian. The two have been in a holding pattern for so long that neither is sure they’re ready to make the next step. As the writer gains enlightenment about his own life, Elizian will be inspired to seek out the same.

This intimate, personal look at one man’s journey shows the many different routes recovery can take and reminds you that it’s never too late to fall in love with something new.”

As someone who put

My book

up on reddit again this week because it is now available as an ebook, I'd like to know what you think. The cover was designed by my publisher with some input from me. Folks tend to love it or hate it, dependent, in part on their knowledge of the source material.

Last Words by Antler.

A Coney Island of the Mind* by Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

Turtle Island by Gary Snyder.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery

Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang.

Read the "Look Inside" previews to see if any of these is right for you.

For writing:

Write Your Novel from the Middle by James Scott Bell. It's short; you can read it in an afternoon. For more, there's his Plot and Structure.

Pauses in Time - A Poetry Collection
https://www.amazon.com/Pauses-Time-Collection-Christopher-Amador-ebook/dp/B06WP3P22V/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492479274&sr=8-1&keywords=Pauses+in+Time

There are moments that define us, that test us, and that bring us clarity. These pauses in time make up our identity and govern how we view and interact with the world. This debut collection of 41 poems seeks to share some of these moments and hopefully inspire more reflection.

Here's a reading of single poem:

Not a problem. I'd also highly recommend Claudia Emerson's "Late Wife" which is a very powerful themed collection that won the Pulitzer, and Heather McHugh's partially collected "Hinge and Sign".

Huge fan of Frank O'Hara's collected poems. Really moved by his turn toward "personism." Also very inspired by John Taggart's Is Music -- tho Taggart is maybe more of a "poet's poet", maybe if you like Gertrude Stein.

Here is one of my favorite poems, Song of the Taste, by Gary Snyder. I like most of his stuff. Song of the Taste is an older poem and can be found in his book Regarding Wave.

For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

I'd add: Yusef Komunyakaa's Pleasure Dome, which is a fantastic compilation of his collections, including Neon Vernacular, for which he won a Pulitzer, and Magic City, which is a personal favorite.

Don't count out contemporary poets - the recent US Poet Laureates are good places to start.

Anne Carson -- Autobiography of Red changed my view on writing forever. Bridging the gaps between history, classical studies, poetry, prose, and philosophy it's an adventure in masculinity, sexuality, and longing. I've read every Anne Carson publication since; each is dense and provoking and difficult... she is a genius.

C.D Wright -- One Big Self is an examination of prison life in the south, told through prose and poetry snippets. There is an associated photo-journalist book that accompanies it, and together they're just outstanding. I think it gives one of the best holistic views of the south through really moving and lyrical prose.

Everything by Derrick Brown (Scandalabra, I Love You is Back, Born in The Year of The Butterfly Knife, etc) These are the only books that made the translation to spoken word for me... I'm not always a fan of spoken word poetry, but these made the jump for me. Church of The Broken Axe Handle kindof saved my life after a series of deaths in my family and friend circles; I've watched him read it over 500 times. It's technically about a breakup, but moreso about how you continue to live after the loss of intimacy and self-worth when someone you love deeply leaves (on their own or by death).

Live For A Living by Buddy Wakefield This book is the only other one that made the translation to spoken word for me. I think the writing and spoken poems are equally as good, and are sharp and smart... and I just related, often. "Horsehead" is a good example of the written-to-spoken translation

Hey there, fellow writers. I'm H. William Davis, and my first and only poetry collection, An Impenetrable Fortress of Men's Fashion, is available now! Released just in time for Valentine's Day, An Impenetrable Fortress of Men's Fashion is a somewhat sardonic look at poems and the love that inspires it.

You can get it on Amazon for $.99

In case you do come back to check on this, and you're still in recovery, you should totally check out this book of poetry. Might give you a different appreciation on Thanksgiving.
