Thanks. There's a ton of them, but here are a few:

So much misinformation. When I got my first betta the PetSmart worker told me that bettas are made "anxious" by big tanks, so a 1 gallon is ideal. Crazy. But yeah, Amazon needs to be pressured to stop. Even worse are the shelves of dozens of bettas at fish stores in those tiny cups. Just awful.

No problem! I love this kind of stuff! Neon tetras is what you had? Those are great beginners but they are kind of small. Platties are a good beginner fish that do best in groups of about 3 or 4, especially in a ten gallon. They get to be about 2-3 inches long, and come in many bright, beautiful colors! They also look really pretty when the tank is decorated! Black skirt tetras are also really hardy, and do well in groups! If you wanted variety, you could also throw in a mystery snail or two!

Tanks are pretty easy to shop for. Honestly, the best place I have found is amazon. There are two routes to take. The first is that you could buy all of the parts separately, or you could buy a kit with most of hte stuff oyu need. For beginners, I definitely reccomend getting a kit. This is a pretty good kit that runs pretty cheap! You'll also need a heater for a 10 gallon tank. I use this one because it can be placed either along the wall of the aquarium or along the bottom. You'll also need substrate, or gravel/sand for your aquarium to make it look really nice and to give good bacteria a medium to grow on! This is essentially a preference for what you want your tank to look like! I use this because I like to make my tank look pretty natural, but it is entirely up to you! The most basic rule is you need about 1 pound of substrate per gallon of aquarium. Also, you need to get a gravel vacuum to clean the gravel. I use a small one for my tank because it lets me be more precise. You'll also need some water conditioner to make your tap water safe for fish! Some people use aquarium salt in their tanks, but I've found it's not entirely necessary. You'll also want to get some plastic/silk plants for your tank! Live plants are preferable, but with a 10 gallon tank fake will be fine! Silk is usually recommended because it has less of a tendency to rip fins, but plastic works fine!

So, essentially the bare bones of what you need are:

  • 10 gallon tank kit ~$70 (if you go to places like PetsMart or PetCo, you might be lucky and find one on sale for like $30-$50!)
  • 10 gallon heater ~$15
  • About 10 lbs of substrate or gravel ~$15-$20
  • Water conditioner ~$12
  • Fish food (flakes, pellets, blood worms, etc.) ~$4
  • Gravel vacuum ~$8
  • Decorations ~$10-$20 depending on how much you want in your tank

    Total: ~$130

All of these prices are from Amazon and my own experience, and can vary greatly from store to store. Especially during sales and such. You might get lucky and get all of this stuff for less that $100! It really does depend on where you are and what's available around you!

Its a Half Moon 10 Gallon, we actually got it off of OfferUp but i found the same one on Here on Amazon.

Unfortunately aquariums are one of the only things that are generally more expensive on Amazon. Here are a few options that will be suitable for a betta with a few modifications:

The start of the video shows it in box as a Nano Cube 601. I found this which states 28 gallons. Upon further investigation, the particular model in the video seems to be this at 38x38x43 cc equaling ~16.4 gallons totaling 131 lbs.

I read a wiki on the Walstad Method, seems surprising straight forward and simple if you're careful during the initial setup and have patience.

I'm using the stock lighting that came with each tank. I can't seem to find any details on the Fluval 25g Accent Tank other than "energy-efficient LED lighting system for stunning day or night lighting".

My betta tank is the Fluval Spec V but it's also lacking detailed info on the light. It just says "Powerful 37 LED Lighting System".

Can anything go horribly wrong if I add root tabs, or should I keep my eyes open for any particular warning signs after I add them?

The plants I have now seem to do well and while some leaves or stems die from time to time I see new growth pretty regularly.

He's currently living in this guy but I was looking into this one. Please let me know if that's an acceptable size 3gal. Hopefully I can order it so that it'll come by the end of the week!

Well, I bought this tank that came with a filter in it. I don't know what you mean by media, I'm assuming tank?

I still need to purchase a water test kit, I'll probably head to the store and get one tomorrow.

I thought I had ordered this but I guess I forgot about it.

The Fluval Chi might be a good tank, but might be more difficult to find a good light to fit it.

I'd recommend the ADA substrate system. It's more expensive than Fluval but ultimately worth it.

As for a filter, the tank I've suggested has one built in, but if you don't go for that, then YES! If you've got critters in it, filter the water. (Also get a heater!)

I'm currently running a Fluval Spec 19L using a combination of this substrate, along with the power sand and some other substrate additives (all sold on that site). I'm growing HC Cuba (dwarf baby tears) and it's doing well with plentiful CO2 using one of these and lots of light with two of these.

lolwut. Oh god, it's on Amazon too. And people have actually bought it.

I think when your a kid you just dont understand. I had 4 of those betta marine box things (.5 gallons at best) each with a betta, sitting in the sun, and I didn't get why they kept jumping out.

I wish pet stores wouldn't even sell these kinds of aquariums.

I would be thrilled to receive any of these! Thanks.

  1. Metal detector For searching with my nephews and friends. This would be heaps of fun for everyone. Prefer used, $88.

  2. Kitchen safe Brilliant invention for dieting, saving money, pet treats, etc. Personally I'm cutting back on junk food.

  3. Pet stroller I love my friend's pets, cats and a dog.

  4. Complete aquarium I want fish to liven up my living room.

  5. Humane trap For helping stray cats.
u/OGravenclaw · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

Yeah, this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Spec-Aquarium-5-Gallon-White/dp/B00I398AC0?ref_=ast_bbp_dp

I have one already so I have all the interior dimensions and everything to base this scape off of. The egg crate in the photo isn't exactly the right size, but close enough that I'm not off by that much.

u/cannabisms · 1 pointr/bettafish

Just the one filter that came with this tank, filter alone seems a little strong too. I cut the airstone, and hes definitely exploring the tank more so now

Is it safe to use an Aquarium stand designed for a 29g tank with my 20g tank?

This is the stand: http://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/fish/fish-tank-stands-canopies/petco-brooklyn-metal-tank-stand

And this is my aquarium:

https://www.amazon.com/Tetra-Aquarium-Kit-gallon-Standard/dp/B013BXE1XO?th=1

Aquarium dimensions are 24.2" L x 12.4" W x 16.7" H

u/M4RTIAN · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

These. I realize they're meant for marine but they were purchased by mistake and it's what I have for now. The blue/white is what my shrimp tank brought stock and all the plants are doing really well so I figured for now at least they would work.

u/s1ugg0 · 1 pointr/Aquariums

I was looking at this eco-aquarium But I know it's common for people to keep fish in tanks that are FAR too small. I don't want to be one of those people. Can anyone recommend any animals that would be comfortable living in a tank this size? Or is this just a gimmick that hurts your pet? I want to do this right and I have no interest in harming an animal for my own amusement. I'm a responsible pet owner so I'm doing my research. So any advice you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been wanting a 20 gallon “ascent” aquarium for a while but haven’t had 200 bucks to spend on it.

Edit: something like this but 20g. Can’t find the listing now boo

u/LowSodiumAzn · 1 pointr/ReefTank

Hello, i currently have a 2.6 gallon Fluval spec tank that is fresh water. I am thinking about converting it to a pico reef tank. Would it be possible to convert it over? https://www.amazon.com/Hagen-Fluval-EBI-Shrimp-Kit/dp/B07GVPFYBX is the exact tank that i have.

u/notjhh · 0 pointsr/videos

Yes, actually they do cost that much. Just because your petstore special freshwater tank didn't cost that much doesn't mean other tanks are priced the same.

Here's a $750 Nanocube. The Elos tanks cost even more than that. All of them are small and light enough to easily pick up and carry off.
