I tried custom orthopedic inserts for a year and it did nothing for me! I finally caved and bought a pair of orthopedic sneakers from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Gravity-Defyer-Proven-Relief-Womens/dp/B079ZL4SB9

They are amazing! They do give you a lot of height bc there's a bulky Arch and heel so I wouldn't squat or deadlift in them. But for everyday walking these are my go to. Within a week I went from excruciating pain to moderate pain. Within a couple months I was pain free! I remember when I couldn't even go grocery shopping without feeling pain from walking around. Now I've had super long days where I'm on my feet and I hardly have any discomfort.

I've also invested in orthopedic sandals. Vionic is my go to brand. I bought these for a wedding and theyre my go to shoes if it's not appropriate to wear sneakers. Also have them in black too. I plan on just buying vionic shoes from now on.

Honestly I think the women’s lone peak in grey look better than a lot of the men’s options, may have to try a pair, lol

Do we have a deals thread? I found a really good deal on the Mizuno Women's Wave Shadow 2 Running Shoe in size 6 on Amazon.

Size 6 - Purple Wine/Patriot Blue - $28.69

Size 6 - Black/Trade Winds - $25.40

I'm salty because I'm a 6.5 and tempted, but also remember the last time I bought running shoes which ran tight (it was a bad time and made running even worse than I already think it is), so I wanted to at least share the deal with someone else with small feet.

Unless I'm deadlifting, I wear my Nike Metcons lifting. I would eventually like to buy a pair of romaleos for squats but they're like $200 and that's a hard pill to swallow for me 😂

I don't run but I do my cardio on the elliptical and I got some Altra trail running shoes (good for hiking as well). I really like them and they come in some cute colors!

u/ProblemBesucher · 2 pointsr/running

Absolutely. Yes, those for example. And those here are my winter emergency shoes at the moment. I just stick them in my pants and go running, I barely ever need them. Expensive minimalist running shoes are just a way to keep making money when people realize they should not put cushions under their heels while running.

I wouldn't try minimalist shoes ! Only if you run completely without shoes will you find the correct running style. The very first week I made that mistake and it was like a revelation when I shed the minimalist shoes as well. It's really hard to change your running style with minimalist shoes. Go completely barefoot and only take emergency slippers with you. You have to be able to roll them up though, the sole has to be very thin and very flexible. The more like socks the better.

Only do max 20 minutes really slowly. If you are not a forefoot runner your lower legs will be very strained.

Two month and no blisters anymore. For ever. ( well, you know what I mean).

I've switched to trail running shoes instead of heavy hiking boots and my feet are much happier.

I'd recommend the Altra Lone Peaks. The lone peak 4.0 comes in a model with some ankle protection, if you want that: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079RM75VT/.

I also use the Merrell glove: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D5RF4TY/ for day-hiking when my pack is light; these are super lightweight, barefoot-style that take a little getting used to, but I like being able to feel the trail.

a pair of something like this will sort you right out - https://www.amazon.com/Quick-Dry-Outdoor-Athletic-Kayaking-Boating/dp/B0796T1ZLZ/

u/rofltide · 2 pointsr/Fitness

Yes. Grass is probably your best and most practical choice.

Also, this is controversial, but some people (me included) prefer to run barefoot when possible, or wear a minimalist shoe, with as little support/padding/sole as possible.

I run barefoot on grass frequently and wear these when I trail run or on the sidewalk (not often). I've had zero knee/ankle/Achilles tendon/plantar nerve problems since switching to minimalist running and I had trouble with all of those before when I wore Nike-style running shoes.

YMMV. Some people do better in shoes. Some don't. If you like to run for fitness it might be worth trying out barefoot to see which way works for you.

Salomon Women's X Ultra 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe, Medieval Blue/Black/Hawaiian surf, 7 B US https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078SYVS7T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9hbMBbA0CS06K

Im on my third pair. You can sometimes find them online for under $100. I know it doesnt fit your criteria exactly, but its as close as ive found.

Just keep in mind a waterproof shoe will always weigh more, and will be much warmer. And if it does get soaked it will take much much longer to dry than a non waterproof shoe.

Salomon also make a sort of hybrid of this shoe that isnt completely waterproof. So its a little lighter, and also less expensive.

Someone recommended Sabo to me. I'd be interested to know if anyone has personal experience with them.

I live in Maine - my combo is Smartwool socks and goretex shoes.

Brooks Women's Ghost 11 GTX https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077NF6X8V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UpuiDb29XNR1S

Smartwool Women's Traditional Snowflake Lochness Socks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6BA289/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lquiDbK7WH2DE

I look a little dorky, but they get the job done.

Only weigh 4.5 ounces and roll up super small with a ranger band

Skinners are by far the thinnest on the market I know of. They're basically socks and are much thinner than Vibrams. The only problem is they make all my other barefoot shoes feel like clogs.

u/kittenkyli · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Oh man, this is difficult..

I absolutely LOVE these skates. Mostly for the glitter.. More than anything I love these tennis shoes. I mean, pups and sushi!? How freaking cute, right?!
