There’s a microswitch on each side and the part also maintains contact with a connector in the chassis. The switch is part of the circuit both on and off. It’s a $5 part and a 5 minute fix.

I like that idea of the fog light switch. I have two blanks next to my fog light switch and was thinking of ordering this switch (hate the look of aftermarket switches) for the light bar alone since I never know when I might actually need the fogs and can't because I'm near other vehicles.
