It was my birthday yesterday and I guess my present was an amazing hair day! :)

Since subscribing to this subreddit (~3 years), I have seen immense changes in my hair - volume, frizz control, overall health. I switch up my routine constantly because I am forever experimenting. However, the common denominator is to avoid parabens, sulfates and silicones and minimize heat. At 26, I realize I am on a never-ending hair journey but it is a fun experience of self-love and a lot of trial and error :)

So without further adieu...

- Washed with Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Shampoo - primarily scalp and then rinsed it out

- Applied Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Hair Mask and Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Conditioner - ponytail length to tip (I struggle with build up), left it in for ~10 minutes in steam shower, ridding large tangles by finger combing

- Semi-dried with a t-shirt

- Finished detangling with large tooth comb

- Separated my hair into sections and applied Maui Moisture Curl Quench + Coconut Oil Curl Smoothie evenly and scrunching with finished sections

- Final spritz for shine and hair health, I sprayed my hair with Marc Anthony Grow Long Anti-Breakage Oil

- Put my hair in a bun for a few hours and then let it down to air dry later - the bun was not meant to be part of my routine, I just had a busy day of errands but this may have helped with the final result

I should also add that this photo was taken on day 2, I slept with my hair in a pineapple style bun as per usual to reduce frizz.

>Patrick Ta glow oil

TMO: I made my own with a bottle of loose pigment and a big bottle of sweet almond oil. Total cost: $15 for 16 ounces (!) of oil.

I've been under stress lately, and physically tired, hoping to find ways to make myself happy and reward myself for all the hard work that I put into life.

I wish I could go on vacation but I can't at the moment, I tried staycation last week but end up doing tons of housework and tidying up; I was really swooning for a good spa facial but I don't want to deal with the package pitch; I can't afford luxury bags; I'm already drinking nice tea and take bath in the evenings. What do you ladies do/buy for a good pick me up?

Edit: Would like to share my fav tea and bath oil if you are into these things

Well, the main problem when I get a cold is that it feels like someone shoved a racoon up my nose, and I can't blow it out

Worst feeling evar

So if that's your problem, some of the solutions that worked for me were...

  1. Get some olbas oil. Really cheap; just put a few drops onto a tissue and keep nearby (even while sleeping!) Also, seems to last forever...

  2. NOTE This could be dangerous!

Find a way to go upside down (droop your head over the edge of a couch?) and stay upside down for ~30 seconds; should clear it up

  3. Some say this works; didn't for me. Press your tongue against the top of your mouth, then press between your eyebrows; repeat until it clears.

  1. Drink more water. If you're not peeing clear, that's a sign to drink even more!

  2. Moisturize regularly. Because your skin is so dry, I recommend oily occlusives (occlusive = protects by covering over, basically heavy & oily lotions which will reduce moisture loss). In the morning I was my face & let the water sit on it and soak in for a minute or so. Then dry my face & use a sunscreen lotion if I'll be in the sun (sometimes over a light lotion that would leave my face feeling clean but dry without something on top of it), or just almond oil as a moisturizer (makes you look shiny for a bit, but will protect the face most of the day) - again sometimes on top of a light lotion. I do the same at night & apply shea butter (raw, unprocessed shea butter is a lotion on its own - just use it straight) - though any good heavy oily moisturizer will do. (Or, if you have a lot of money, something fancy like this great stuff: http://www.thegoodstuffbotanicals.com/gypsy-cream/ )

Note that a lot of lotions are meant for people with skin that hydrates faster (=no spiro) or are more worried about break-outs (they freak out about oil). For me, that stuff is good if I want to be fancy, but only under something heavier & better at preventing evaporation, like the almond oil I love (also pretty cheap).

I've tried OCM with a Sunflower oil + Canola oil "baby oil" mix in the morning for five weeks

http://www.apoteket.se/privatpersoner/radochprodukter/common/produktinformation.aspx?Varuid=254698

It worked well for the first week. I both felt and saw the individual grits that left the skin.

The oil mix* also seemed to remove the excess skin caused by the 2.5% retinoid topical cream.

The progress seems to have stalled the past few weeks.

Am I just impatient or should I swap to the keri mineral oil that I found in the sidebar?

edit: words

I started using this a couple months ago. Complete game changer. I've had no eczema flare ups since. I definitely recommend wet moisturizing.

Is it this one?

I’m always looking to try new oil cleansers and I really like Naives makeup removing face wash.

Oh my god I'm so sorry about your puppy. ;_; a bajillion hugs I can't imagine that, I'd completely break down if I lost my dog.

I nominate /u/cats_and_vibrators for a wishlist item. She's amazing and I love her. She is always there for everyone, super supportive and caring. She deserves everything. Love you Maggie. <3

If I win I would love the kindle, I've had the paperwhite on my Maybe Someday... list for a while now. I love reading and having that would be amazing.

Congrats on the apartment! I love household-y stuff. You definitely need a good knife set!

And this awesome ice mold.

Mixing bowls are essential, and these are my favourite.

Cutest sushi service ever!

And for when you finally get a minute to relax, this bath oil would be perfect.

Thank you for the wonderful contest! I hope you have a really great week. :]

Morning:

u/fried_brain89 · 1 pointr/May2017Bumpers

I'm late to the party, but I really love Hempz lotion. There are different scents but a more plain one might be better to start off with since your skin is flaking.

They also make a fabulous body oil. I use it in the shower when my skin is really dry or right after shaving. Just be careful, it will make everything slippery if you spill it!!

u/moonsal71 · 1 pointr/aspergers

Yes, I do. I’m extremely sensitive to almost anything :) & I get lots of rashes, dermatitis, etc..

You have to switch to more organic products. For shampoos, no SLS or any other sulphates. Organic ingredients only, with jojoba oil for your dandruff. If it’s really bad buy some organic cold pressed jojoba oil & massage it on your scalp the night before you wash your hair, couple of times/week. The dandruff will go (your scalp is reacting to the harsh chemicals in the shampoo).

For body/skin again organic/natural products only. For your body, look for a shower oil like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aveeno-Shower-Colloidal-Oatmeal-250ml/dp/B00GO46AT6 - something with coconut oil, jojoba or oatmeal.

For the face, same principles apply. If it’s cold or the skin is very dry & I’m not going out, then I’ll just use a few drops of jojoba oil. If not, look for organic natural creams.

u/rot4ry · 1 pointr/Hedgehog

Hedgehogs are quite prone to dry skin, so I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with her. Sometimes over-bathing or sand baths can irritate their skin. Keeping bathing to only once a month will help her.

For mine I give my hog a bath with a bit of this mixed into the water: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aveeno-Shower-Colloidal-Oatmeal-250ml/dp/B00GO46AT6

> I wish it were cheaper and had a different scent or no scent.

What do you think of the Bioderma Atoderm Shower Oil? It should be cheaper and have no scent.

u/TractorPants · 1 pointr/NaturalBeauty

I’ve recently switched from Cetaphil sensitive skin face and body wash to this cleansing oil which has been a huge game changer for my skin!!
