Yeah, that would be a good middle ground. These Comfort Soft are pretty soft.

I don't like briefs so, when my boy started wearing underwear, I opted for boxer briefs. He's stuck with them, it's what his older cousin wears, his grandpa too so, it follows through.

My nephew likes the 'performance/moisture wicking' material type boxer briefs and they work well with boys who play sports as cotton tends to get damp, stretchy and uncomfortable and stay wet feeling. He also likes them because they're 'silky on his junk.' (his words).
