Hi! I’m back!!
Although I thoroughly intend to write my birth story when I’m ready, I just finished my first piece since the baby arrived so in celebration, I’ll pair it with something useful.

I really appreciated posts like this while I was pregnant so here goes:

Things I didn’t know I needed:
(AKA things I have frantically ordered on amazon at or around 2am)

Bottle Drying Rack This probably seems obvious, but when we didn’t get this from our showers we were like... idk why we can’t just use a towel??

Safe way to cosleep My husband built a BEAUTIFUL Sidecar Crib, but it was attached on my side of the bed and it took 2.5 weeks for me to have healed enough to climb in bed around it safely with the baby. This way, I didn’t have to bend over to pick up baby or even spit up to check on/soothe him.

Lactation Suppliment My lactation consultant approved. This one worked well in my breakfast tea.

Better flanges My poor nipples were so sore and the flames that come with the Medela... well I’m not sure who they’re supposed to fit but not me. My doula practically ordered these for me. GAME CHANGER.

Pumping bra I was cutting holes in sports bras. This is better.

Nipple Shells Another kind reddittor sent me in the direction of this AMAZING INVENTION after I posted a photo of ice packs tied to my nipples with a burp cloth because I refused to wear a shirt my nipples hurt so bad. I will be purchasing these for EVERY PREGNANT WOMAN FOREVER. They keep your nipples dry, collect drips, apply counter pressure to keep your nipples shaped correctly for latching, and most importantly omg nothing touches the precious nips and you can wear a shirt!!

Car mirror

Me: that seems extra, he’s in a car seat and safe why would I need a mirror??

Hormones; HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH YOU FOOL

Car adapter for my breast pump Cheaper than batteries

Shade for his side of the car because anything that wakes up my sleeping baby is the devil. This one has a bonus that allowed me to roll the window down and it was HOT in the south

Better suction for the breast pump Again- just better than whatever they send you

My Breast Friend we got the boppy but this one saved my back

Heating pad Turns out I’ll do ANYTHING to keep the baby asleep when I transfer him to his crib including preheat the darn thing (on low!) before I lay home down

Stroller Caddy You’ll want somewhere to put your keys, phone, and coffee

Baby K’tan An easier way for my husband to wear the baby.

Leggings I had a pair of these before, and they are SO COMFORTABLE on my postpartum body that I bought 5 more in different colors!

•Extra pump parts for whichever pump you have

•A hands-up swaddle I found at Target

•Wine.

Anyway, hope this helps! Best of luck to all of you!

I had created a list for friends after we had our first kid:

>Bottles:
Breast Flow was what we started with since it was said to mimic the breast the
best and help avoid nipple confusion.
http://www.amazon.com/The-First-Years-Breastflow-Bottle/dp/B0031PXV7K/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1269959457&sr=8-16

>We also tried Drop-ins to help reduce gas. It works but the problem is if the
baby unlatches then air gets in. So we didn't use it for long. Since it is
disposable you only have to wash the nipple.
http://www.amazon.com/Playtex-Drop-Ins-Original-Free-Nurser/dp/B001F0RAC0/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1269959562&sr=1-7

>What we mainly use now are Dr Brown's wide nipple. It seems to work well enough
for preventing too much gas. We feed adn then burb and he's usually ok with gas.

>Also give him gripe water once a day and Mylcon 3-4 times.

>Bundle-me - for the car seat. This is great for keeping the kid warm and cozy in the car seat during the winter months. It was also handy since the seat was big
for him when he was a newborn and this added some cushion.
http://www.amazon.com/JJ-Cole-Original-Infant-Bundle/dp/B00009VE5O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1269959771&sr=1-1

>Feeding pillow my wife liked the best was Brest friend, it was better than the Boppy since it warped around. My wife was starting to wrist pains from holding the baby up until she started using this.
http://www.amazon.com/My-Brest-Friend-Pillow-Sunburst/dp/B000HZEQSU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1269959826&sr=1-1

>For swaddling we tried Swaddleme but he would fight his way out. Then we found one that you can place the hands in flap that tucks under him and he couldn't fight out of that one. Only trouble was that he would get too hot in it. I don't see it on Amazon though. We picked it up from a birth store in Denville.

>The sleeping sacks he also liked, similar to one below.

>This CD seems to work well for him. It's not magic but if he's tired it helps
him fall asleep faster.
http://www.amazon.com/Stops-Crying-Heartbeat-Lullabies-Vols/dp/B00003TFYP/ref=pd_sim_m_1

>A flask of hot water is good to keep around if you guys are going to bottle feed. Maybe not as big as the one I got but it was more geared to travel, we have a smaller one for home use.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000U8D0H2/ref=oss_product

>This Sony Baby monitor was good since it has voice activated mode. It turns on when it hears crying.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017T2RYU/ref=oss_product

>the baby clothes that open the front and much easier to put on. greber makes some.

>Don't buy diaper systems that seal. When you open it later you'll be hit hard.

>Better off letting wet diapers air out and place the other in the garage or outside. We usually place poopy diapers in a diaper bag. It's also handy for disposing them while on travel.

My Breastfriend is a LIFESAVER. My Brest Friend Original Nursing Posture Pillow, Green Sage Dotted Daisies https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PC3KBA4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XbZPDbPHY5G5T

u/SugaredSalmon · 3 pointsr/parentsofmultiples

I have exclusively breastfed my twins since day one, and it's been six months. They're growing well.

I will say that it's stupidly time consuming, especially in the beginning. If I were pumping, I couldn't do it: my body just doesn't respond to pumps (same issue with my singleton). Fortunately that's not an issue since I stay at home with them for now. You also will want to do everything you can to boost production and not skimp on calories. There is a useful reference book called Mothering Multiples which has some nice info on caring for twins, in addition to its useful info on breastfeeding. http://www.amazon.com/Mothering-Multiples-Breastfeeding-Caring-International/dp/0976896931/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1453763391&sr=1-1&keywords=mothering+multiples

Other recipes for success will be learning to tandem feed, if only for one of the feedings, and finding a nursing pillow you like (I use the blessed nest pillow, like a big beanbag http://www.amazon.com/Nesting-Pillow-Organic-Nursing-Washable/dp/B001TFNPWA/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1453763636&sr=1-1&keywords=blessed+nest+organic+nesting+pillow).

Good luck. You can do it, if you want to. And if you can't, that's okay too.

Can not imagine life without a Luna lullaby nursing pillow http://www.amazon.com/Luna-Lullaby-Nursing-Pillow-Chocolate/dp/B001M4HPU6... Going strong still with baby number 2. I use that and a recliner with arm rest and pillow behind my back. With my second I even brought that pillow to the hospital.

So I haven't personally tried this but have ordered it for my second c-section with what I assume will be my second reflux baby: Infantino Elevate Adjustable Nursing Pillow, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0185AH022/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_itLQBb3PHT9E1

It is supposed to be amazing for refluxy c-section babies, so I decided to try it. Not sure if it is in your budget or not but figured I'd suggest it just in case.

My Brestfriend nursing pillow (I only used it for a couple weeks, but it was awesome for learning how to latch, and I used it like a table so I could walk around with my son on it without disturbing his latch when we were first learning)

My wrap carrier (we just registered for a cheap one off of Amazon.)

This. We use it as his bassinet and it's where he does the majority of his snoozing if he's not in bed with me.

https://www.upspringbaby.com/collections/c-panty
It has a silicone panel that pushes against the incision to minimize scarring.

https://www.amazon.com/BlenderBottle-SportMixer-Tritan-Bottle-28-Ounce/dp/B01M021YK8/ref=sr_1_17
I liked using the my Blender Bottle for water while breastfeeding, because it had a wide opening, and I'd chug the whole thing down as fast as I could, because I'd be so thirsty. (just take the blender ball out)

https://www.amazon.com/My-Brest-Friend-Nursing-Comfortable/dp/B00PC3K7OE/ref=sr_1_1
A good nursing pillow. Mom's Breast Friend was the gold standard when my babies were born, but there are a lot of other choices now.

https://www.amazon.com/Priva-Waterproof-Protector-Absorbency-Guaranteed/dp/B000FOA7BS/ref=sr_1_7
Absorbant mats like what they use on hospital beds for all the spills and leaks and everything else. These are great for so much: leaky boobs, changing babies anywhere and everywhere, etc etc. I still use them, and my kids are 7 and 9. They're handy to put on the bed when someone has a tummy bug.

Dry Shampoo

A toilet bidet attachment. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tibbers-Self-Cleaning-Retractable-Non-Electric-Mechanical/dp/B07VRQHMJF/ref=sr_1_12?crid=28MRK9BCKEGPL There are a ton of options.

u/SpeakeasyImprov · 1 pointr/predaddit

My wife swears by this pillow set-up for nursing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PC3KBAO

Also, I just suggested this for stroller/car seat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CSECET0

The expensive stuff you're looking at is probably the "top of the line" but really, they're fleecing you and overcharging. You will discover there's, like, an entire industry dedicated to preying on new parents and their insecurities.

Best:

  • Rock N Play - we have this on the main floor of our house and its where my son takes his naps during the day (when he's not sleeping on me)

  • Pack N Play (with bassinet and changing table) - we have this Chicco Pack N Play set up in our master bedroom, where my son sleeps at night. The organizing caddies that attach to the side are super handy for storing diapers, swaddles, and a change of clothes for the middle of the night.

  • Diaper Pail - We have two of the Diaper Dekor Classics, one upstairs and one downstairs. Our house is pretty small, so I love the small footprint of these bins.

  • Boppy - Now that my son is a little over 3 weeks old and can quickly and easily latch in a number of different holds this is less important, but it was super helpful for the first few weeks.

  • Burp cloths - we keep one in every room of the house! I love the Burt's Bees burp cloths. I'd recommend having at least 10-15.

  • Muslin swaddle blankets - I'm obsessed with the Little Unicorn swaddles because they're big, breathable and have such cool designs (but also very expensive at $16/each). I'd recommend having at least 3-4 blankets.

  • Hooded bath towels and small washcloths - Perfect for keeping baby warm and dry after a bath.

    Worst:

  • Ergo Natural Curve Nursing Pillow - This pillow is way too stiff/hard. I hate it and never use it.

  • Socks - My son has worn socks exactly 2 times in the last 3 weeks. Since he's almost always covered in a blanket, they're super unnecessary for newborns.

It's possible they don't know what they want quite yet and sounds like she's not doing much shopping being on bed rest and all. Or maybe they feel weird registering for a ton of stuff since they probably already had baby showers for at least one other kid. My oldest was 11 when I had my LO and I got rid of his baby stuff years ago lol so I can definitely tell you from personal experience that even if I did have stuff from my oldest it probably would not have been in the best shape not to mention dated. I had another baby shower and registered for everything lol.

So with that in mind, I recommend getting them something off register for baby. I don't think Boppys were a thing when I had my oldest but I literally got one on the way home from the hospital (I had him 4 weeks early so we totally weren't ready). Even though we ended up formula feeding I use it all the time still (LO is 7 months old). I got the one with the extra cute cover so I think it was like $40-50 and I love it!

Also, my MIL bought us a 4 pack of Aden and Anais muslin blankets (also not a thing 10 years ago) and they were $50 which seemed like a lot at the time and I don't think we would have bought them on our own because of that but we used them every night and every nap for MONTHS. Pretty much until my little guy started busting out of the swaddle lol. Plus they come in a ton of cute prints.

Decided at the last minute to post some links for you:

aden + anais Classic Swaddle Baby Blanket, 100% Cotton Muslin, Large 47 X 47 inch, 4 Pack, Lovestruck https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JFSPT6W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ax3ZAbNTTMNY6
*One quick note about this print though is that the metallic print came off in the wash after like 3 washes 😒 so I probably wouldn't get one with metallic.

Boppy Nursing Pillow and Positioner, Luxe Chevron Whales/Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017ORW0WM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xz3ZAb6PHFWYH

Hope this helps!!!

It sounds crazy but when I'm tossing and turning at night, I sometimes wonder.
