I did a quick search and it appears that a reverse osmosis or ion exchange filter is required to completely scrub Cr(VI) from water. Carbon filters probably do help at least a little bit though.

This pitcher-type filter is recommended by the EWG to remove Cr(VI): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CUMLOK. Looks like it has a more elaborate filter system than traditional Brita pitchers that includes an ion exchange stage.

$7.60 apiece to anyone with Amazon prime...

I keep ordering them for friends, mostly because I want to have one to use when I'm at their houses... but it makes me look nice.

This $5 mini pitcher is also a great addition...

One more thing if you’re EFF and have the means: buy lots of bottles. It sucks when you’re getting them ready for the night and realize you need to do dishes to have enough. We started with 4 and now have 10.

We also bought this pitcher to make batches of formula at once and love it.

I saw the Torch Server and it stuck with me.

Randomly found the Osaka Pour-Over on Amazon one day.

Intelligentsia uses something like this. It's sturdy AF.

I'll be curious to see any other recommendations!

Very similar to our situation. We got both home on the 3rd after 10 days with just 1. We stuck with the nicu feeding schedule they were on which was bottles on the hours of 3,6,9,12. We have pretty much been able to stick to that, occasionally getting off by a half an hour here or there. I don’t set an alarm for when to wake up to feed them overnight because one of them always lets me know. Even if one is not crying they both get woken up for food and diaper so they stay on the same schedule. I have just recently started occasionally feeding both at once if they both are screaming but i usually just do one after the other. Thankfully our girls eat at a good pace so it’s not an issue if one is crying a little waiting for her meal. During the day our girls like to nap in the fisher price infant to toddler rockers and they go down pretty easy in their cribs at night.

Here is a rundown how my days have been and I should mention we are exclusively formula feeding. I am on maternity leave and my husband works 4 days a week, so those days i do both the 3 am and 6 am feedings by myself and they take around 45 mins between warming bottles, changing diapers, feed and burping. So i sleep between 12-3, 3-6, 6-9, minus the wake time for feeding. I wake him up to help overnight on days he is off. Sometimes we stagger things, for instance I’ll go to bed after 9 pm feeding and hubby will handle the midnight and put the girls down to bed by himself so i can get a more solid chunk of sleep. If they eat every 3 hours and one person can do one by themselves the other person can get a 6 hour stretch of sleep which is all you need to feel like a new person! Anywho days I’m alone...After 9am bottles and diapers they go in their chairs and I get my coffee, this is essential and should never be skipped. Between feeds when they nap or are just hanging out i use the time to restock diaper stations, do some laundry and one time a day i make 24 hours worth of bottles for each girl. Staying organized and on top of little things like always having wipes when you need it can keep you from getting frustrated. My mom has come about once a week to help out, I time her visits with my own dr visits or errands so i can leave the house without the babies.

We have a swing and haven’t even opened the box yet and not sure i want to! They actually go to sleep in their cribs or their little chairs with little to no soothing from us and i’d like to keep it that way. Maybe we will set it up down the road or maybe we will just return it. Here are some things we’ve loved
disposable changing pads to put on our changing pads.
infant to toddler rocker
formula mixer pitcher
flat head boppy pillow
No link for this but cloth diapers have been the best burp cloths, we took a bunch from the hospital and I’m about to order some more, Green Sprouts brand has been pretty good too.
We have been using the app baby tracker to keep track of feedings and diapers.
Time to feed a baby...might add more later!

Keurig and Keurig-like brewers are not what I'd consider fast for serving 30. And the cost of those cups add up quick. For what you'd spend on a Keurig you could get an 8-cup french press and a thermal carafe and probably a pound or two of coffee.

If you're dead-set on a Keurig brewer, I'd say craigslist is a good place to start. I've found a few on there for around $60 - 80.

i recycled the filtron decanter as soon as i took it out of the box. this glass anchor decanter fits perfectly

u/brsmnky007 · 2 pointsr/milwaukee

Supposedly Zero Water ones like this do.

u/bc2zb · 2 pointsr/Coffee

Yes, the bonavita pitcher can be a pain. One day, I will get this badboy and hopefully solve all my problems.

u/lespritducellier · 2 pointsr/tea

Either of these (the 39 or 77 3/4 oz) are great. They're glass, so it won't affect the flavor, and they have water/air-tight lids.

u/LeonardAshcroft · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

I usually fill a 5 gallon bucket with star san, I set out one of these and a half gallon pitcher.

Bottles go into the bucket. Beer Gun or whatever you use to bottle and the caps go into the pitcher. Pull a bottle out, empty it, fill it over the flat container, cap and repeat. The large plastic bin provides ample room to bottle a large number of beers, and catches any overflow. Dry floor is ensured.

Don't fear the foam, capping on foam is a very good thing.

And you can!

Kinda pricey but it's the first I found.

Well I can say without a doubt that when I get a Hefeweizen I'm grabbing my Weihnstephaner Glass

Bormioli Rocco Glass Frigoverre Jug With Airtight Lid (1 Liter): Clear Pitcher With Hermetic Sealing, Easy Pour Spout & Handle – For Water, Juice, Iced Coffee & Iced Tea https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001JA5CSK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_heUXCbXSXA4Q9

Try this?

Package Contents:

  • Pitcher: Rattleware Steaming Pitcher ($18) Having something with a spout helps pour cleanly into the Aeropress in addition to being a good heating vessel.
  • Water Heater: Norpro water heater ($11) The time to get enough water to temp is a little longer than the grind time on the hand grinder.
  • Grinder: Cozyna Grinder ($20): Less than half the price of the Porlex option. I figured if it breaks I can get another one or upgrade to the Porlex.
  • Brewing: Aeropress ($35)
  • Filter: Able Aeropress Metal Filter ($13)

    Optional:

  • Scale: American Weigh Scale AWS-600-BLK ($10) Just don't get it wet. This could easily fit in the pouch, but by now I've been able to eyeball the bean/water volume required for a particular weight.
  • Thermometer: Thermapen ($79, refurbished): This was not purchased specifically for this kit. But it's a great thermometer to have in your kitchen anyway! At $10, a simple drink thermometer [like this one](Taylor Precision Products Classic Line Hot Beverage Thermometer for Coffee or Tea https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001U1XRA8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_L9b3xbTDWY3MS) would be perfect.
  • Mug: Ultimo Coffee Camping Mug ($12): Any small mug will do. Ultimo Coffee is one of my favorite local roasters so I'll be traveling with a piece of home wherever I go
  • Silicone mat (~$15) About the size of a mouse pad. Lets me not worry about putting hot/wet/messy things on the hotel or Air B&B desk.
  • Bag: S.A.W. Pouch (~$11) designed to hold 6 standard 30 round magazines for automatic weapons... or coffee gear. Got it at my local army surplus store.

Something similar with a slightly smaller cork stopper: https://www.amazon.com/bouti1583-Drip-Free-Pitcher-Storage-Stopper/dp/B07FD8JR5P

u/RivellaLight · 1 pointr/HydroHomies

Here, a lovely carafe, $15. You give them one of these filled with water and one empty glass per person. If someone wants to drink water, they pour themselves a glass. And if they don't, they leave it alone. You can even put a slice of lime or lemon in them, guests will love it for basically zero extra cost.

Is this not a thing in the US?

u/caterplillar · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

Here’s the pitcher and here’s the colador. Serious game changers.

We also get Trung Nguyen coffee from whatever Asian grocery store is nearby—its really common, and comes in a red can. Sometimes you can get it at a regular grocery store, but we’ve mostly found it at specialty stores.

I use this OXO tray (I have three, but I still have to do it in at least two batches when I make broth in my instant pot) and a 1/4 cup measuring cup and just measure out 1/4 cup per cavity. It fills the cavity about 2/3 of the way up, which I find gives plenty of room for the broth to freeze without overflowing the cavity. Then I store it in a ziploc.

If anyone has any better ideas about storing them I'm all ears. I have a tiny freezer. Hopefully I'll be able to just get a chest freezer soon and I can just use some larger tupperware.

Edit: I've also found that those plastic drink pitchers like this work great for storing my second batch while my first batch is freezing.

Edit 2: Oh, I just remembered I also use those molds to freeze buttermilk. I don't use that much buttermilk with just a two person family, but when I want to batter and fry something its exactly what I want and I don't want to have to buy a whole bottle for just the little bit I need.

>"...or using unhealthy options such as microwaves..."

Ah, one of those hippy-trippy eco-voodoo websites. ^^^<s> Luckily I can align the quartz crystals in my ham radio to ward off any bad-juju that gets through the shielding on the microwave. ^^^</s>

I never thought this was practical, but maybe if you heated up some stew or something in a snap-lock pyrex container (something like this, no endorsement) and surrounded it in 2" of styrofoam it would stay warm until lunchtime?

It limits your meal flexibility, but a vacuum thermos like this works really well. I fill it with boiling water, then heat a can of chili and some hot dogs in the microwave. Dump out the pre-warming water and load the hotdogs, then the chili on top. Works for soups, stews, and lots of types of Indian food too.

I've got the 1900-TD and use this carafe.

It's also on their website but not on the accessories page. Took me a minute to find it.

Worth every penny. I literally threw my stainless carafe away when we moved last; not worth the cabinet space it takes up.

It’s a wine decanter also known as a [porron](Glass Porron Wine Pitcher https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007XF3SD6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hwcEDbW5V0DMK)

I think you would like this infuse pitcher! Who wouldn't want their water to taste like fruit? Or mint? Or lemon? Mmmmm.

How long would wine keep in a porron? Here's another example on Amazon. Wikipedia suggests historically they were used for wine storage, but perhaps not in the current day.

I think it's a fun enough novelty to have around for parties, just wondering if there's any short-term storage use for them too.
