YTA. My parents treat my best friend (who is only a visitor!) better than you treat your own son. We keep a toothbrush, Lactaid, and a couple snacks she likes because she sleeps over about every other week. And this is just my friend. You see your son more than that, and you’re not even prepared. I get if your ex was sending him over malnourished and in rags, while she drove a Mercedes away cackling, but he’s healthy and has his own clothes.

Is it really that hard for you to feed your own goddamn son? Would it kill you to order $6.00 toothpaste (https://www.amazon.com/Colgate-Toothpaste-Mouthwash-Watermelon-Flavor/dp/B0000AN9LX/ref=zg_bs_16026141_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KSV05XBWN4HVS20SMK22) and a $3.49 pack of toothbrushes (https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Dr-Fresh-Extra-Toothbrushes/dp/B01GRAFERU/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=2M536JI91XSII&keywords=children+toothbrush&qid=1556057702&s=gateway&sprefix=children+too&sr=8-2)? Will it really put such a huge dent in your budget to buy him a fucking toy (Look! You would literally pay less than 75 cents per toy truck https://www.amazon.com/Vehicles-Assorted-Construction-Yeonha-Toddlers/dp/B01MUC9GPU/ref=mp_s_a_1_43?keywords=child+toy&qid=1556058145&s=gateway&sr=8-43)? Do you hold that much resentment for your ex? If you can’t give him fifteen bucks worth of essential goods, are you coming close to giving him the love and support a father owes his son?

This worked well for my youngest. We had to mix it up with different games, but she started enjoying brushing within a couple of weeks of animals living in her mouth.

Also ask if your dentist has any toddler safety toothbrushes ( https://www.amazon.com/Infant-Toddler-Safety-Toothbrush-1-brush/dp/B0010DKTI4). They aren't that great for brushing, but they can't get hurt trying.

there's toddler toothpaste in the kids section that is floride free and you can use that. http://www.amazon.com/Kiss-My-Face-Fluoride-Toothpaste/dp/B001GIOVXW

I miss this stuff from when I was a kid. I probably ate more of it than I brushed my teeth with though.

As soon as teeth popped through. We started slowly though. The first time they just sat in our lap after our 6mo check up. The hygienist counted their teeth, and they got a prize, toothbrush, and toothpaste. We worked our way up to the hygienist brushing teeth at our next visit, the next she used the cleaner/polisher, the next the fluoride treatment. By the time they were 3 they were pretty much having full appointments with us every 6 months.

As far as brushing their teeth, always. Before they had teeth, we bought a baby brush set and we brushed their gums. When teeth started being seen, we switched to a soft toothbrush. No fluorinated until they are reliably spitting their toothpaste out. We also now use kids mouthwash, and use flossers.

We didn't have dental insurance when I was a kid and I had a HUGE phobia of dentists. I had 2 molars rot out of my mouth, so I'm pretty neurotic about my kids and their teeth. My 7 year old brushes all on his own now, my 4 year old still has to have us do it.

I need this toothpaste for my daughter because hers got left in Nevada. I she only has a little left in an old tube and she can't use mine because I won't let her have fluoride because it's a poison.

Tom's of Maine Wicked Cool! Fluoride Free Toothpaste, 4.2 Ounce by Tom's of Maine http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AJFAKEC/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_VSmstb1QBCF9Q

After the pilot had a heart attack and I had to take over flying the plane I asked the stewardess "how do I fly this thing" she turned to me and said "I don't know, fly casual."

I understand that. After a quick search on Amazon, here are a few that don't have very childish packaging:

Or just buy some Toothy Tabs from lush. Or these ones on Amazon for even cheaper.

We had some trouble with brushing, we used one of [these] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brush-Baby-112-Chewable-Toothbrush-Blue/dp/B003469LAM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410610903&sr=8-1&keywords=chewable+toothbrush) for a while, which helped, then I got a book called [Brush your teeth Max and Millie] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brush-Your-Teeth-Max-Millie/dp/1409507955/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410610967&sr=8-1&keywords=brush+your+teeth+max), which also helped a bit. The thing that I found helped the most though was brushing her teeth in front of the bathroom mirror.

Now shes three I tell her I need to brush the cobwebs out.

I use this on my 9 month old. It's his favorite part of getting ready for bed!

I don't why toothpaste makers feel that they have to put such strong chemicals into their product. My tongue always feels burned after brushing my teeth with paste from major manufacturers. Crest is the worst. Their toothpaste for "sensitive teeth" doesn't improve much on their company ethic of burning their customers' mouths.

Even alternative small manufacturers have adopted this policy to some degree. Tom's toothpaste uses various ingredients in their toothpaste line to give some kick to different flavors. They do have a couple good mild ones though, which I have used. My favorite is their orange mango gel. This strawberry children's toothpaste is good in the same way; however, because it's a heavy paste rather than a gel, it doesn't dissolve away in your mouth, and there can be residual left between your teeth.

disclaimer: I think I have more sensitive tastebuds than most people. Salt, for example is very strong flavor for me. It doesn't enhance flavors in a food, but rather masks other flavors.
