I really like my metolius bag https://www.amazon.com/Metolius-Ropemaster-HC-Bag/dp/B00A821NT2. (It's Prime!!) A bit more expensive, but they sell it at REI, it holds the rope where I want under my bag, and has a nice little window to check that i have my rope.

If you always have the rope tied to the bag, I'd call that $40 worthwhile for the possible 1 time out of 1000's that my rope was too short.

8oz was all that was needed for me. You can order this in 8, 10, or 12. I velcro strapped it sideways to the headstrap, or you can use zip ties, whatever you want.

That is a slingshot. Check out Ham Radio CQ. He has used it for portable work. The box folds down very small for easy portability while the line is in it. Arborists use very colorful line and bags so they can find them easily. My home trees are not that tall but it is very easy to loose the end of the string as I tend to use black paracord.
