Interesting looking gizmo.

Also, seems like a pretty reasonable customer. Admitted it was a rare item, asked for alternatives but didn't find anything suitable, got a bit frustrated, and left.

I actually have a two page typewritten document on correction methods (not helpful right now as it isn't scanned), but about half a page doesn't apply to your machine (applies to Correcting Selectrics and electronics). You can quite literally erase typewriter ink with a typewriter eraser which can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OZF13W. The issues with erasing are that it can tear the paper (you remove paper along with the ink while erasing), if you don't do erasures properly they can look poor (it takes a bit to fully erase the letter). Also make sure to move the carriage fully to the appropriate side to prevent crumbs getting into your typewriter.

You can use correction tape http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-Wite-Correction-Tape/dp/B00CKF063E and works fine for drafts and anything where the correction can be visible, but need to actually cover the error to aid in working with future drafts. This is a lot cleaner than correction fluid.

For quick on the fly corrections that are hard to see, but are easier and faster than erasing, you can use ko-rec-type strips. These are now sold by the strip (you have to separate yourself): http://www.aroundtheoffice.com/Ko-Rec-Type-cover-up-sheets-32-tabs-1-x-2-3_4/productinfo/COVER-UP-SHEETS/. These are very easy to use. The process goes like this backspace to error, insert sheet shiny side to ribbon matte side to paper, type the ERROR again, backspace again, remove the strip, type the correction and continue.

Lastly for really rough drafts or just typing out ideas you can just back up and x over the mistakes, my electric typewriter makes this easy (except for the fact that it doesn't have a power backspacer) as pushing the X key down to the limit puts it on repeat.

About $5: Alvin Stainless Steel Erasing Shield (3298) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HF6VK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Tep-ybK4R6ZX3

You could also consider an eraser pencil, which you can sharpen to a point for more precision: Faber Castell Faber-Castell Perfection Eraser Pencil with Brush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OZF13W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kgp-ybM1HV7ZP

Yes, 2b is a really appreciated and standard darkness for leads, but the thing is if you go darker the lead will wear out faster as it leaves more graphite on the paper eveytime you use it.

That is the link for the erasers Im talking about!

And yeah Ahaha there is so much to consider, but it’s always a matter of personnal choice at the end of the day. The grip can be a problem for some if they have sensitive skin, if you have « moist hands » it can be a plus to have more agressive grip, etc. And the color in itself really is a personnal esthetic choice, but from experience and owning a few rotring in both black and silver, the black ones looks better I think but scratch a bit more easily.

If you want to know anything else, let me know ! And also, there is much more pencils brand than rotring, and some REALLY great models out there !

Everyone is different and the process of learning to draw can be arduous, this is just based on what I have found.....

Tools are expensive for drawing, "good" pencils will not help that face you're drawing look good if you don't have a conceptual understanding of line, value, light, gravity and composition. It will look even worse if you cannot draw with purpose... That means practising drawing lines a lot! I started out drawing at 21 from scratch, so that meant filling page after page with lines at every angle and length, I thank myself now because drawing a straight line is something I do every day now, it helps to do it without thinking. An hour of practise is worth more than the extra money you spend on gimmicky hardware that claims it will make you an artist just by picking it up. HB pencils are free from IKEA and biros can be stolen from work, as can copy paper.

That being said some really good tools to have for learning to draw:

  • Mechanical pencil is always a good tool, it won't break in your bag and you don't need to dispose of sharpening mess.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001J8CI1Q/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_nMScvb17VY2XH
  • A good eraser is perhaps the only tool I'd spend money on to begin with (though if you're learning leaving mistakes on paper is good because you can torture yourself with them and learn by them).Faber-Castell GRIP 2001 Eraser Caps (Pack of 4) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00JN5C7LS/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_BNScvb08HQVTX
  • sketchbook - you can spend a lot of money on a sketchbook. This is where your skill comes in to play, don't spend more than you need to if you're filling pages with practise. It should be smooth and sturdy to withstand erasers and don't bother with special bleed proof pads. Your medium should match your tools here. A4 - 40 Sheet Cartridge Paper Spiral Sketch Pad https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000N3ZYMI/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_cQScvb1ZE2JNB
  • books. Read and understand these, you will not regret practising all the excersises in these books till you know them backwards. Good reading includes: Drawing on the right side of the brain - Betty Edwards, Figure drawing for all its worth - Andrew Loomis, Perspective for Beginners - Numerous, and any books published by artists you respect or like the style of.
  • youtube is a great resource, check out https://m.youtube.com/user/Sycra and https://m.youtube.com/user/markcrilley

I would suggest just finding a quiet spot, getting one of these books, a few scraps of paper a cheap pencil or biro, and practising til your fingers bleed. But I am a masochist with zero talent who needs to practise all day. If you can draw something better than you did yesterday you're progressing.

TLDR: Get Drawing on the Right side of the brain - Betty Edwards and do the excersises on copy paper from work and a cheap pencil.

I'm a graphic design student and I'm running out of pencils and other things... Honestly, we're printing a lot and are having tons of files.

u/jellomoose · 1 pointr/mtgaltered

Hmm hadn't heard of those. Something like this?

u/galaxyminstrels · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have a nice Rubber/Eraser That is only £0.69/$1 with free shipping :) It is on my stationary wishlist :)

Nice duck and cover, asshole. A shame it didn't work.

u/RogueStudio · 1 pointr/pencils

If you absolutely must have jumbo sized eraser caps, Faber-Castell makes them.

If you live outside of Europe, they will come at an imported price tag. (here's an Amazon global listing, and UK based Jacksons appears to ship them internationally...) .

I personally use something like a stick eraser with my jumbos if they have no eraser (I use boring Pentel Clic Erase, Tombow Mono stick erasers are also decent, just a bit more pricey), or as the previous person said, a block eraser. If size is an issue, Pentel Hi-Polymer, Staedtler Mars Plastic or Rasoplast, and Tombow Mono (among others) do make block erasers in a small or mini size.

i'm a total snob about these. I only wish they still came in .5 like they did back when I was in HS. AUTOFEED. No clicking ever. No lead breaking because too much clicked out. You do have to protect the tips against backpack damage. Fantastic erasers. They are at a good price point where you get a quality pencil but don't cry if you lose it.

Papermate also makes an autofeed pencil (nearly nobody else does) but I prefer the Dixons.

Oh yeah, on the topic of erasers:

These are the lease smeary, but still inexpensive, erasers I know. I've been working on one of the large ones for 2 years now. I put the cap erasers on my pencils after the std eraser is gone.

Sakura Color Foam Eraser W 5P RFW100-5P https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VKIUOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_b6yJBbYE1QR95

Amazing eraser that blows the Pentel ones out of the water. More expensive though, when I bought them they were $6 but it looks like the price went up a little bit.

THIS pencil is actually an eraser, and I would love to try implementing it with my drawings.

u/RHINOHORNINMYBUMHOLE · 0 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
