I'm planning to get some glow in the dark stars (same ones you had in your room as a kid), and maybe I'll make some decorations using bottles filled with tonic water

Don't forget about the classic disco ball.

These ones, not actual disco balls

Have you looked into an infinity mirror?
We were at a hotel takeover this weekend, and the hosts had removed the shade from the room's standing lamp, and attached a disco light bulb like this one.

I agree on the mirror balls. Mirror balls are classy whereas a lot of the effects I see these days strike me as rather tacky or, if you are six years old, awesome. In the US you can get 8" mirror balls shipped for less than $10. Of course then you need some way to hang, rotate and illuminate them so there is the added cost of the motor mounts, lights and dilemma of how/where to hang them. Depending on how crafty/cheap you are you might possibly arrange something with multiple 8"-10" mirror balls, some clothesline and some borrowed LED bicycle headlights. A simpler solution might be multiple tabletop mirror balls: http://www.amazon.com/Lumisource-LS-MIR-MADNESS-Energy-Saving/dp/B0045CXY3E/ref=pd_sbs_indust_1
Also, consider a cheap fog machine: http://www.amazon.com/Eliminator-Lighting-Machines-EF-400-Machine/dp/B0006M59M6
Fog machines turn cheap lighting effects into pretty cool lighting effects.
FYI, virtually every effect made by American DJ and Chauvet have somebody demonstrating it on Youtube.
My wonderful girlfriend got it for me! I believe it's something like this http://www.amazon.com/Generic-Crystal-Magic-Effect-Lighting/dp/B00857DO62/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394385039&sr=8-2&keywords=dmx+light
I have a couple of the first lights you linked to, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/TSSS-XL39-Crystal-Effect-Lighting/dp/B00E5WQBWU/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1401140363&sr=8-16&keywords=crystal+ball+led
Just one or two will light up a good size room - unbelievable how bright they are and I think a no-brainer for the price. I don't even use them with DMX control - just let 'em rip.
A cone filter and frame and you could leave the water running constantly through it with a spray nozzle.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Good luck.
