Paint it, then reinstall the plate with 3" screws.

OP you need to look at your rights as a renter and put a stop to this shit with her. Find out what notice she has to give and see about getting a consult with a lawyer. You have rights as a renter and you need to know what they are so you can stop her randomly letting herself in.

Next start a paper trail all of the snide text or random bullying. I fear this is going to end badly so make sure you have yourself covered. Emails, notes, text messages and such are a great way to provide proof.

Also block her # hell let her know you are doing it and that all contact has to go through DH. Leave all work on him since he sees no reason to stop her abuse. When you block her see if you can make it where her calls go to VM so when she blows up(and she probably will since her ability to abuse you is cut off) you'll have a recording of it.

Start avoiding being anywhere she is. They don't want you around so embrace it. If she comes over leave. IF you know she is coming be prepared to head somewhere.

Basically stop engaging at all, leave it to DH its his family his responsibility.

Get into counseling DH needs to learn that people abusing his wife is not ok and how to grow a spine. I know a lot of insurance won't pay for it but sometimes you can reach out to your church, the counties mental health and more to look for low cost options.

Next look at your lease agreement if you have one and at local laws about recording and video surveillance both outside your home and inside. You can also use your phone to record and make sure whatever you use has sound. That way if she shows up and start shit you can't deny a video of her calling you fat or being a cunt.

Finally look at some door jammers they have plenty of no install ones that she can't claim you "damaged" the property with. example
