I got them on Amazon. Link here. The color I got is “natural.”

I do like them insofar as they are very effective blackout and thermal blocking curtains. This is helpful for this room (you can see how much light comes in, what you can’t see is how hot it gets without the curtains in summer!). What I don’t like is that they are like a faux-linen texture. They feel a bit plastic. Some reviews said that washing them in a washing machine produced holes. I haven’t tried to wash them, so I can’t attest to that, but given the feel of the material, it doesn’t surprise me that machine washing would damage them.

Overall, I would recommend them if your priority is the blackout function. Honestly, they look fine despite the weird material, and I was even able to hem all them just fine with my sewing machine, so they’ve been good for me.

Curtains - I tried 2 similar brands that were both around $30 but I liked these the best: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07J29RM94?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

The wooden rainbow stacker was from Etsy. I think it was around $50. Etsy won’t load for me at the moment but the shop was called Flora and Peg. :-)

I have these in white and they’re excellent. I didn’t even need to steam them. In the daytime I can easily see out and people can’t see in.

Honestly couldn't be much happier than I am with these. I have 3 big windows in my theater and on a sunny day these make it so dark it's hard to walk around. Plus they're the same color on both sides (lots that I found were white outside).

Ok - so you're wanting to stick with the pieces you have. You said in another comment you're thrifty (me too!) and not wanting to spend much, so here's what I'd do:

Right now the dark pieces seem very harsh in the room. I'd embrace the theme of the natural wood accents, and tie in your black pieces by adding in some other natural textures! I was bored/procrastinating and did up a (very choppy) photoshop of what I would do with the space. Here you go! I edited out the clutter just for the sake of the design.

I'd love to see some sort of curtain (beaded?) in front of the vanity to make it feel like a more cohesive room. I think something like this would look really cool, although it's a bit pricy. This is more affordable. You could DIY the circles from the UO one if you like them, I'm sure!

I agree with the other poster about mounting the guitars to the wall and storing the stand.

I would make some dowel frames for your map, and hang it above the mirror. I'd also make a few smaller black and white cardstock prints at Staples (cost you about fifty cents or less per page), do the same with the frames, and stack them vertically along the space of the wall beside your closet door.

Are you crafty? You might be able to make a diffuser shade for your 'boob' light like these folks did.

I'd recommend going to Home Depot / Walmart etc and getting a couple more plants, and putting them in terra cotta pots (they're pretty inexpensive).

I would also get a few baskets and put them on the middle shelf of your bookshelf, to break up the lines and make it less overwhelming to look at.

I would get something for your makeup table to contain your makeup so it looks less cluttered.

Heres some pieces similar to what I photoshopped in that you could pick up on on a budget, but a lot of them could be thrifted if you like hunting!

Beaded Curtain

Lamp Shade

Guitar wall mounts

Linen textured curtains

Basket for makeup brushes

Baskets for shelf organization

I can't see what's going on in your bed area, but if you like my suggestions, I'd be happy to make more recommendations if you post a picture!

I would get these curtains Or any that go all the way from the ceiling to the floor and the rod in that picture with the blue amazon long curtains.

Then figure out what your hobbies are and focus your room around that.

For example I spend most of my time in my room on my computer and I used to love computer gaming. So I had a really nice desk/computer setup and chair etc since that was the focus of my time I wanted to be as comfortable while maintaining a look i appreciated

And figure out a color scheme based on colors you want

Hang your Fleur on the brick. Either drill and put in a screw or get some brick clips.

I'd borrow a hammer drill and get a permanent screw mounted dead center above the mantle. Even if you move, someone will always use it to hang something.

Other than that, lets start with the basics.

  1. the curtain rod needs to be replaced. You want something strong and sturdy over wide windows. Check out the Amazon basics 1" rod. Im also a fan of the pipe style curtain rods. I have these in my house

  2. Remove the mini blinds from the door and go with 2" faux wood to match the other window. French door blinds like these come with mounts so the very bottom rung attached to the door, making it so they don't flap around when you use the door. Since you have a pupper, You might want to consider using those mounts up higher and leaving some open window space at the bottom for little eyeballs to see outside. It will keep them from tearing up the blinds.

As for the curtain panels for the other window, maybe something like this that matches the carpet style. Since you have window blinds already, you don't really need full on blackout curtains..so some nice semi sheer curtains would look nice. Just push them off to the sides of the window to create the look of curtains...or open the blinds and close them to have privacy but let in light

  3. Get some table lamps for your end tables. And do yourself a favor and get plug in slide dimmers and use dimming LED bulbs or incandescent. I prefer incandescent in my den lamps because they dim really softly and its really homey feeling. Simple table lamps

  4. Paint. I feel like something in a sage green would go nicely in this space.

And if you white wash the brick and stain the mantle a nice dark walnut color...I think the sage green would go nicely.

  5. Lastly, at some point, change out the ceiling fan to something in bronze. [Maybe something like this]
(https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Copley-52-in-Indoor-Outdoor-Oil-Rubbed-Bronze-Ceiling-Fan-51504/206648583) Brass dates a house so any time you can get rid of it, you should.

I found some:

  1. Rug - this is more likely smaller or you can choose a desired size. And more on boho style rug.
  2. Curtains - Check this one. It actually give more effect on the living room because it's red.
  3. Pillows/blanket - For the blanket, I prefer white like this. To make it more lighter because your couch is black. For the pillows, you can actually choose 2 colors that would compliment your blanket but at the same time boho style. but not too muchlike this.
  4. For the art above the couch- It more likely good to hang some panel wall art. The large size. I think apush pin world map is great cause you're travelling. You can pin places you visited there.

Then, to make it more lively, try to change your lighting to brighter one.

Yess, this is excellent advice!! We share a bedroom with our son and have invested in these black out curtains

we also have this white noise machine which is inexpensive and works wonders (our alexa echo dot kept fading in and out after an hour and waking him, it was so annoying).

the blackout curtains hide any light from electronics that might distract him and add to the dark, nighttime effect. sleep training while room sharing is definitely possible!

we didnt sleep train until he was 5 months old though, id give your little one more time.

2 layered curtains would be great! Like what I found on amazon this one. Then, you can actually hang some small or medium wall art at the center like this. By the way, I like your piano! ;)

u/CarrieStone2 · 1 pointr/HomeDecorating

for curtains, you might be interested in adding something like this one, a cream-colored , you might be on interested in this kind of wall art instead here
