Highly recommend checking out this book, Beyond the Pill: https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Pill-Program-Hormones-Dangerous/dp/0062847058/
She talks about how often women are prescribed the pill to give them a "regular period" rather than their doctor working with them to find out the underlying reasons that their periods aren't regular (PCOS, Endometriosis, thyroid issues, etc.). Might be worth a read in your case! The earlier you're able to start thinking about this and addressing it, the better.
The author, Jolene Brighton, has also done a number of podcast interviews if you want a quick easy preview of her book/philosophy. Here's one I just listened to: http://www.jessicamurnane.com/the-pill-post-birth-control-syndrome/
