I got 2 plano ammo cans and a Gun Digest calendar. I already got 2 gats this year though so I'm pretty set.
Kodiak a sub set of the anaconda + Grizzly
http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Catalog-Colt-Firearms-James/dp/1440237476 this book might help
The gun digest annuals have articles , a pretty extensive pricing guide with some historic info on each firearm, all kinds of ballistics information and various gun info. I wouldn't say you need every year but having a new volume of it every 5 or so years can get you new info. Also the articles are well written. Lot's of other books by gun digest on their webstore as well.
If you want a more complete reference pick up a Standard Catalog. Bit more pricey but it's a giant book and maybe a bit more in line with what you are looking for.
Here are a few books on point shooting for you (non-referral links to Amazon)
Defensive Shooting for Real-Life Encounters: A Critical Look at Current Training Methods

After 2006. My third edition Supica and Nahas doesn't have that serial number prefix.

I took two firearms to a gun show this weekend. I'm asking close to retail, because I'm in no hurry to sell them, and they're in a condition that warrants it.
Some vendors know how business works. "Nice guns. Can't give you what you want for them. Someone sure will," or, "I could sell that ... uhhh ... once I make some sales and have some money." That's fine with me. I'm not going to get butthurt over it. I want what I want, and they know what they can pay. They're not the same. We both smile and move on to other topics. Often trading my firearms instead of just money. A conversation I'm happy to have.
However, some vendors insisted on telling me how unreasonable I was, waving the blue book in my face and borderline name-calling. OK, so a trade with you is now off the table. Also, in most cases, they are vendors I have seen before, and shall make a point not to see again.
There are dicks everywhere in the world. Avoid them. Walk away.
The .30-40 Krag was a smokeless cartridge
rghapro, check the serial number on the bolt handle - in all likelihood, it'll match that on the receiver.
Also, I highly recommend you snag a copy of the Poyer book on the Krag rifle and carbine
Welcome!
Impulses can be a good thing, and a tool to learn. But controlling some of them, as I look at my bulging, overfilled, safes, can get away from me!😅
But I don’t judge. We don’t get to choose who or what we love.
There is a wealth of information out there. I just got four new revolver oriented books this week, and YouTube has a lot of vidyas out there as well from a plethora of different peoples on the subject of revolvers. Some are BS, but some have some good info.
Four books I got in this week and the S&W Bible, if your interested. I kinda get into the history and whatnot of revolvers, 1911’s and older battle rifles. Truth be told, I nerd out on a few things, but this is the only one I have time to mention now. 😅

To add to this - I highly recommend this book to all hunters (bow and rifle alike):

At some point - you might not make the perfect shot; why not arm your self with some knowledge and some of the experience of others in tracking game.
A certain very famous dead animal handler/wrangler/tv show host/mad man is kinda somehow, partially related to me distantly.
this please and thank you :D
I need a hug
This is my favorite gun book of time because it's all about the world's finest shotguns and their history, broken down by country of origin, and the author has an engaging style. If he's nuts about shotguns he'll dig it. The photos aren't the greatest but the writing is highly addictive.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with a 1911, and anyone who really enjoys guns and gun cutlure in general.
(The Custom 1911 - Bill Loeb)[http://www.amazon.com/Custom-1911-Bill-Loeb/dp/1440240558/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427452854&sr=8-1&keywords=the+custom+1911}
Some typos and other mildly annoying things throughout, but a great read. I finished it in two sittings, and only because in the middle of the first I had to stop myself and actually get some sleep. hint: this is not a book to read before bed to help you sleep, you'll just end up staying up waaaay too late because it sucks you in.
Well, since you're starting out, you'll want some sort of general reference catalog. Something like Blue Book of gun values (get the physical copy, not the online one) or this should help you get started.
What kind of guns did you want to start out with? There's a LOT of topics and subtopics, it would help me help you if I knew at the very least where you planned to start with your collection.
It's strange that our FAQ actually lacks maintenance guides for guns that aren't AR. We should work on that.
I can't say that any particular book will have exactly what you need, but here are few to check out.

Of these, the last link is what I would buy, but if you can physically inspect these books at your local bookstore, I'd do it. Just wanted to give you a spread in case one happened to work better for you than another.
