While it's at home, you can hide it somewhere (locked away from roommates and drunk guests). The problem is getting it to/from the car, as I see it.
What you should do, is take up golf. Just buy a bag and some clubs at Goodwill.
I'm a pretty bad golfer but I'm happy to say that I use nice gear (I can't blame it though, dang). My friend is a Nike rep so he gets me some good shit.
