>Neckbeard: See family situation above. Now imagine you just hit puberty and you start growing facial hair and have absolutely no idea how to shave.

Oh jesus this.

I don't care who you are, if your child is growing facial hair please help them learn to shave.

I looked so fucked up when I was a teenager because my beard grew in so scraggly and patchy but I didn't want to shave it because I was so proud of the fact that I'd grown it. Little did I realize how insane it made me look.

Might help if you tell the kid that, if they shave, it'll grow back fast and a lot more evenly and look more mature.

EDIT: I've weirdly gotten like six messages now asking about shaving advice. I say "weirdly" because I put fully the least amount of work into shaving of anyone I know.

I've been shaving for a while now and I've tried almost every method out there at least once. I've even tried fire. I...really do not recommend that method.

For me, a pair of corded electric hair clippers like these are the best. Not one like this because it doesn't have the adjustable stand-off guide.

They're cheap, dead simple to use, and they cut better than anything I've ever used. Brand is completely irrelevant just make sure it's corded and has an adjustable stand-off guide. The snap-on guides are good too and be sure you get/keep a little brush (most of them come with one) to help clean out the teeth. Shave over a dirty t-shirt to catch the hair and dump it outside.

You won't get that baby-smooth skin but a neat, maintained 5 o'clock shadow is better than looking like you just got out of jail.

The stand-off guides also mean that even if you jam it into your skin it won't cut you. If it starts pulling out hair, you're going too fast (same applies with electric shavers too).

I actually hate electric razors because they're so fussy, they break so quickly, and you have to spend twenty minutes unclogging them to get them working. Fuck that noise. One set of electric clippers lasts me 3-4 years with basically zero maintenance and I get a nice, even shave every time. I can shape, layer, and shave almost smooth with the same set of clippers.

I maintain a decent beard and I put in maybe three minutes of shaving every two weeks and I'm solid. And yes it's even suitable for shaving your junk. How? Carefully and with the stand-off guide adjusted for safety. I have never cut anywhere I've shaved with electric hair clippers.

One pair I found, there's other listings for different shaped glasses too (aviators, wayfarers, etc.,)

Hey man,

I have really sensitive skin and it's stylish for men to have a stubble now, I switched to a clipper and never looked back. There are some really cheap German clippers too, I recommend something from the Wahl series. Some of them are as cheap as 20-25$, and you won't need to buy blades again.

This is the one I have I think.

...Okay, I need coffee, it didn't occur to me that women also needed razor blades. Terribly sorry. I did a stupid.

Use the premium 1.5 wahl guard. It comes in a set with the .5 guard. They’re way better than the grey ones that come with the clippers. I’d definitely recommend getting the full 1/8 - 8 set as well though.

Less is more, be careful taking anything that might be stimulative.

In my case I introduced more vegetables and occasionally eat paleo/primal meals (but have yet to adopt it completely), along with a basic multivitamin/mineral once a week.

Supplement wise, it's hard to say what really helps. Anything that does provide improvement will be minimal.

The only things I personally used (and still use) is Turmeric+black pepper (this brand specifically), for the anti-inflammatory benefits -- during benzo withdrawal I should imagine inflammation is increased.

After recovery I introduced probiotics, because years of benzo usage, and often the things we do while on benzos can't be good for the gut. Some of them can (in theory) help improve our mental state, and indeed the brain-gut link is often underestimated. (I used this one for 30 days, and now I'm using Primadophilus Reuteri, once it runs out I will probably just take 1 a week of a general one)

It is hard to say if any of these had any significant benefit, because I have been using them for months and haven't really stopped.

Recently (now that I'm 6 months clean) I added Lion's mane for the nerve healing benefits (specifically Time health's brand) -- but I probably won't take it long term (just a few weeks of 'treatment').

Maybe a human thinning shear with teeth on both sides? These are an inexpensive but nice pair.

Yessir, I bought two knock off clippers from amazon for $30 a piece. I only bought these for class because I keep my nicer tools at the shop but honestly I recommend them. Both of the ones I bought come with their own guards but can use all wahl guards as well.

I prefer this clipper over the other one I bought. It cuts pretty clean just heats up kinda fast. The last cut I posted on here I actually cut with this clipper. However, they raised the price since I bought it. That’s some shit, wouldn’t recommend it for the new price tag:

omwah clipper

This clipper is basically a magic clip. It does the job and lasts me about two cuts before needing a charge. Mine doesn’t really get too hot but my buddies heats up pretty quickly so maybe I just got lucky or he got unlucky. I’d recommend this one for sure, especially for the price tag.

Ok, so I'm thinking:

It is definitely not a problem (difficulty-wise) if you have some sort of interest/passion in cutting hair.

Just make sure you have a light touch, use fast movement, and flick up and out.

Let me help you by providing some resources:

  1. I suggest buying a "clipper". Buy a decently good one like this: (Andis Masters - https://www.amazon.com/Andis-15-Watt-Adjustable-Clipper-01557/dp/B000BBGS36)

It's not cheap but it's just not worth it buying a crappy cheap one. In the long run you WILL save money from not paying 20 dollars for each haircut.

  2. Buy some cheap "straight barber shears" off eBay or Amazon. They cut well enough. (https://www.amazon.com/Cutting-scissor-straight-Barber-Shears/dp/B0794BXSR2)

  3. I suggest you watch some of this guy's videos (https://youtu.be/MJqFMNbP_24)

Watch how he moves his hands. That is the difference between a rough and smooth haircut; Is how fluent your hands are. Just practice.

You don't need to learn to "fade". A simple shave around the sides with the clipper is good enough if that's all you want.

To trim the top, watch some of his other videos and notice how he holds the shears and comb. (Always spray water on the top before cutting. Keep the sides dry.

Looks good if you ask me. If you really want to thin it, you can just ask your stylist to do it or get some thinning shears and do it yourself.

u/aeon_floss · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I didn't mention it because I could not find a multi-voltage model. In Australia it is sold as the Tiffany HC98. It's basically just a basic and cheap 30W corded "do everything" clipper.

Something like a Wahl Home Pro is a good US equivalent.

This is as basic as you can get. The Panasonic mentioned by /u/shrine is more civilized. I don't think anything rechargeable is BIFL though.
