G9 bulbs I believe they're called? Link below.

You are looking for something like this. But I can't tell from the photo what the wattage or voltage is of that bulb so I can't guarantee that what I linked is correct.

There are a lot of different options for what it could be, actually. Take a look at this link to see what I mean.

you could use a resistor i suppose. I investigated this before and decided it wasnt worth it (and would need to put the resistor in water to lose the heat).

I just looked on amazon.com and you can get a 6 pack of halogen 50w globes for $12. Go to your local hardware store and buy one (for like $3?). I had one at home with the sharp pins like this and it fits perfectly into an XT60. Just sit it on something resistant to heat and you'll discharge the battery quickly.

the safest method is to hook up your charger, but essentially that's just a resistor and fan anyway. I'd be inclined to use the bulb, at least if something does go wrong, at worst you lost a $3 bulb

The type of bulb would be fine, assuming you have a fixture that can hold that socket type. That said, you're going to want something larger than 2" and 50W might not give you the temperatures you need. I would look for something like this and just figure out what wattage will work for you. You can find bulbs like that at almost any big box store or hardware store.

I like these, but that's just me

bulbs

They take the heat in the hood way better in my opinion

I think those dimmable fixtures are pretty sweet. My setup is a work in progress, as always. My cages are not bright enough in my opinion, but it is hard to provide a lot of light without too much heat. I'm using this 53 Watt dimmable halogen flood in a 4x2 crossfire enclosure and have it dimmed down quite a bit because it is too hot. I also have the Reptisun 10.0 tube for UVB and I have this LED bulb on the cool side of the cage without a reflector so it shines everywhere. I'm not pleased with how hot that LED bulb is getting and don't recommend it. It is giving off as much heat as a CFL which kind of defeats the purpose of spending a million dollars for an LED bulb. Maybe mine is faulty. I really want the extra light in my cages and plan on adding more LEDs (of another brand) as I can afford to do so.

I like the halogen I'm using, though. I wish the color temperature were brighter but I've had a difficult time finding bulbs that do everything I want. I think I bought those at Walmart or Home Depot for less than $10 for two bulbs. I wasn't able to find a similar bulb with lower wattage locally, but with the dimmer, I don't think it matters.

A picture of the socket would be useful.

A 56 watt flood that emits 980 lumens sounds like it might be something like a PAR 30. If that is the case there is a standard Edison style "medium" e26 screw base. 56 watts is what you get with an "energy saving" halogen lamp when you are looking for equivalent light output to a standard (old, no-longer-made) 75W PAR30.

You can remove the downlight trim and replace both the trim and the lamp with a retrofit LED kit

It’s a bi pin halogen. Don’t know if you can tell the wattage.

Thanks a ton for the reply -- can you give me an example of how the bulbs dim? For example, if you change from 20% to 100% brightness does it happen relatively instantly or sort of scale up over several seconds. My bulbs are dimmable. My kitchen lights are these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H1T897E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). As I mentioned in the above comment "this is something purely aesthetic and something I thought would be cool for more of an ambiance thing if the lights smoothly turned on or adjusted levels of brightness over like..3-5 seconds". Do you know if this is something switch, bulb, or automation specific and if that can potentially be adjusted with some SmartApp or other sort of "virtual dimmer". Thanks again for the reply.

great, thanks!

Do you think the one you linked to will work with dimmer switches, or do I need to find some separate "dimmable" version?

Also, is this one https://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-0477300-1500Hr-2600Lm-Halogen/dp/B00GRTJJXW the same? The Lumens one has a base of "R7s" and the Amazon one has a base of "RSC" - how would I know which base I need, or are they interchangeable?

Thanks that's definitely some good advice. The only thing I have on the walls right now is a dart board and maybe a TV eventually. I can get these lights through work for $16 ea. Not sure if you have any thoughts on them but they seems pretty good. https://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-70699-10-watt-Recessed-Downlight/dp/B00F0X529Q . I think this is the spec sheet for them. https://assets.sylvania.com/assets/Documents/LED169.e86b881e-94ed-4eb0-ae90-4a1254bfdaf4.pdf

And just to make sure I'm on the same page, aiming to have the beam hit the wall a third of the way up looks ideal?

Thanks!

edit: spelling

I have the cree CR6 in an IC airtight can right above my shower/tub. They are rated for moist areas as well. It's coming up on a year with no issues.

You can't pull the bulb out from the base by chance?

Cause it looks like a halogen bulb stuck into a regular base.

https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/halogen-mini-bi-pins/

EDIT: A bit more digging, it seems that you can buy halogen lighbulbs which screw in.:
http://www.westinghouselighting.com/light-bulbs/halogen-bulbs/single-ended/50-watt-t4-clear-halogen-light-bulb-0442300.aspx

https://www.amazon.com/Satco-S3491-100W-halogen-light/dp/B008YYOGFE

Just gotta figure out the correct base size and max lightbulb wattage now.

It's a halogen bulb for a light, usually a floor standing lamp.

u/arizona-lad · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I think the problem may be voltage. Bet you are not aware that GU-10s are available in both line voltage and low voltage applications.

https://www.amazon.com/GU10-HalogenLight-Bulb-Voltage-2XGU10-12V-35W/dp/B005LLW1RS

I know it runs off a line voltage switch, but have you actually used a volt/ohm meter to verify what the bulbs are actually getting? Some track light have a built-in transformer that you may not know of.
