I still use sewing needles for my pokes but I had bought a pin vice to help hold it. I would imagine it could work well for a tattoo needle too.
I have this one. The top can be removed so I would imagine it could handle the length of a tattoo needle.
Personally I say spend the couple extra bucks on the pin vice with the large handle.

I'd recommend a thing like this, I use it for 40k. It's powerful enough that it doesn't take a half hour to make a small hole, but it's still underpowered enough to make precision tasks a little easier. I use a pin or exacto knife blade tip to make a small hole where I'm drilling so that I'm less likely to slip while starting the bit.
I got this set below from amazon, i spent less than 10 bucks. works great, i use 1.2 then 1.3 and stop at 1.4
