This soundsystem will be 10 times better than the pioneer one you selected. Other than that, check out epson for projectors. All in all though, youll have a hard time spending that little if you want to get furniture and everything.

>No way its $1000.

How do you figure? Just looking at deals from the last week you could have gotten:

  1. $380 RefurbishedVIZIO 42" LCD 1080p Smart TV with WiFi & SRS StudioSound HD Audio
  2. $250 Yamaha YHT-397 5.1-Channel Home Theater System
  3. $40 Toshiba Blu-ray Player w/ Wi-Fi

Figure $750 once you add all the cables and other stuff you need. Maybe another $100 if you're not comfortable with a refurbished TV. You could probably save even more if you're patient; I just looked at popular deals from the last week on Slickdeals for the TV and HTIB.

That isn't a HTiB. That is a receiver with speakers. You don't need to get your own speakers unless you decide to upgrade to something else later.

Edit THIS is a HTiB

You're not going to find anything as small as the Boston's, they were coaxial and tiny. However, here are some options that might be good to consider.

  1. Boston CS2300 $200 5.0 set that you could reuse the sub with. They will be larger than the current speakers but they are small compared to most.

  2. Canton Movie 95 $400 - I've not heard these but they are certainly small and white.

  3. DefTech ProCinema 400 $500 or ProCinema 600 white $800 - Small 5.1 setups that should do nicely for you.

  4. Orb Mini 5.1 set $650 - Very small "orbs" and sub that come in a number of colors.

From my experiences the Denon receivers are easier to set up and get running. The Denon does push less wattage but they're well known for having a cleaner power; better efficiency. I do like the Advantage series, they are a great receiver but I do see people leaning towards, and being happier with the Denon products. However i also do a lot with Marantz too. Tend to be a higher end product across the board. Great sound quality, nice drivers and a solid amp. May be worth looking in to.

Hi everyone. I'm looking to buy a 5.1 system. I found this one on amazon for 300

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BI22U3O/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1485808028&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=sony+5.1&dpPl=1&dpID=31tJCD3z0%2BL&ref=plSrch

Is this a good system or is there a better system out there? Thanks in advanced.

u/bgzkinsella · 2 pointsr/hometheater

No, this is not BS. Those speakers are made to work with only that receiver in mind, and vice versa. You might be able to find just the receiver/blu-ray player on ebay/craigslist somewhere, but you've also got to make sure that both the impedances match up. Also, the new receiver would need to have the same type of speaker adaptors as the old system. (this wouldn't be easy to find)

However, I would highly suggest not going this route. This is why HTiB's are rarely a good investment, due to the lack of upgradeability. To make sure you don't find yourself in the same situation in a couple years, invest in a legit home theater kit. You can start with something as basic as this Yamaha. Systems like these are great starter kits, since they are still about the same price as a decent HTiB, but also are much more future-proof. Then just add on any Blu-ray you'd like, ($75-$90). If any part ever breaks or becomes obsolete, or you'd like to upgrade something down the road, you can just replace the one piece, rather than the entire system.

So, we are building a home theater and need surround sound. My brother was leaning towards an all in one box kit. But I told him our dad had some nice Cerwin Vega speakers and a Polk Audio subwoofer he wasn't using.

Here's the box kit we were going to get:
Samsung HT-H7730 7.1 Channel 1330-Watt 3D Blu-Ray Home Theater
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ICDE6PW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But since we have these speakers, I think we should build off this.
We want to go 7.1 so we'll need a receiver and four Satellite Speakers as well. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Room Dimensions: 12.5 Feet wide, 18 feet long Budget -$450 -$650 ish

We'll need HDMI inputs for blu ray player, PCs, video game systems, etc

  1. I would wear this Marilyn Monroe costume, sing "Happy Birthday Mr. President," while slowly stripping it all off. Underneath I could have this minus the feathers and gloves.
  2. These silver stilettos would work perfectly.
  3. I'd start off by singing a strip tease Happy Birthday Mr. President. Afterwards, go into My Heart Belongs to Daddy finished off by I Wanna Be Loved by You. (Yes, I'm singing and dancing)
  4. My stripper name could be Miss Ambrosia (thank you /u/chuckjaywalk). This is a play on my real name.
  5. I'd treat myself to this surround sound/Blu Ray system and this 60 inch television

u/mikeykt · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Unless you absolutley need Component Video switching, I'd say take /u/aperfectcircle's advice and go with the NR1403 or the NR1504. For the Speakers, I'd go with the Fluance SX Series 5.1 combo.

u/000Destruct0 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Best way to proceed with such a limited budget would be to go used. If that is not agreeable then next best would be to get something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DAV-TZ140-Channel-Surround-Connection/dp/B0074ZRNAY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1457450428&sr=1-1&keywords=home+theatre+system

and supplement with an HDMI switch. Not as elegant but you aren't going to find anything new in your budget that has the switching you need.

u/Mahadragon · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

For the speakers and TV I would consider the Bose Cinemate GS Series: https://www.amazon.com/Bose-CineMate-Digital-Theater-Speaker/dp/B002MXWKAG Maybe get it used to lower the price, they really sound good. Currently I'm rocking NHT Super Zeroes with Super 8 subwoofer and Vienna Acoustics Center Channel. My Yamaha receiver was purchased at a thrift store for $60. I love my sound system and got it cheap because it's all used, but if space and money was a consideration I would really consider the Bose Cinemates. Other good bookshelves include Bose 301's.

u/LouGossetJr · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

i'd probably get a package deal like this. i have small polk s15 bookshelf speakers and they impress me. i imagine this system would sound smashing in a 12x8x8 room.

I'm liking the Polk Audio RTI A3's for fronts but don't have room for towers but I get the idea you're putting forth.

u/Scaryspongebob · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

These are tower speakers and would create a better soundstage than the miccas for sure. Better bass and can be played louder with less distortion. They have a pair of bookshelf speakers available if you want something smaller but you might still need to buy stands if you don't have somewhere to place or mount them. Let's just say that if you want to eventually set up a 5.1 it would be good to already have a pair of front L/R speakers, or start off with a pair of speakers that you would then move to the surround L/R. Your choice really. Personally I would want some good, loud sound now and go with the DCMs for a 2.0 setup.

Also, people seem to shit on Polk but for the price those sounds like a very good entry level 5.0 system. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07V14H331/ref=sspa_mw_detail_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyMjJVTjVPUVY4TUpWJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDgxNzAxMzdES0FLT1FLR0dGNSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODY2NDMxSldaMFpIT0JZR1E3JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0&th=1

I was gifted this a few years ago. Still love it the same as day one. I never would've recommended Bose to anyone before, but I can't deny how prestine the sound is.

Thanks for your reply, I'll definitely look into those. What are your thoughts on these speakers with this receiver

u/Brewster-Rooster · 1 pointr/PS4

I'm not 'very lucky' Im an unemployed college graduate on social welfare, I got this system as a christmas present a few years ago. So you can fuck off with your assumptions. All im saying is that he's wrong in saying that headphones are the only way the game should be played.

u/ProfesorFiesta · 1 pointr/audioengineering

Option 1 sounds solid.

I'll post two things I just found. The only thing that troubles me about the Yamaha is that the surround is speaker wire, and the front are RCA. I would want it the other way.

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-YHT-397-5-1-Channel-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B007PU2X76/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1413539813&sr=1-9&keywords=5.1+receiver+speaker+wire#Ask

Then there's this, which would solve all my problems and allow me to just expand over time (at least until RCA takes over entirely). I'm just afraid of becoming outdated too fast with the speaker wire. But I can't find any good floor speakers that use RCA.

Thanks thrownaqzzz and anyone else reading.

u/chippinganimal · 1 pointr/buildapc

Since everyone else has covered the cpu part of the question id thought i would chime in and reccomend you [these speakers] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MX-JS9500-System-Lighting-Effects/dp/B00XUP1Y5M) /s but for a simple stereo desk setup id say go for [these bose speakers for exactly 100$] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CD1PTF0/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1465782279&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=stereo+computer+speakers)

I am selling a few electronic items that are in like new condition for good prices.

I've got:

  • A Model YHT-497 Yamaha 5.1 Channel Home Theater in a Box System. Comparable model new for $430, selling for $350. 100W per channel and the sub has a satisfying kick, discrete receiver, sub, and speakers so they can be upgraded separately down the road. Comes with a decent roll of cheap speaker cable.

  • An ARRIS/Motorola SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, Model SB6121. New for $69, selling for $50. This has a three star certification for use with XFINITY internet services which is the highest and most thorough level of testing they do.

  • A Netgear Wireless Router w/ Dual Band Gigabit, Model R6300-100NAS. New for $150, selling for $120. This thing's just fucking great. I've never had any complaints about Comcast's service, and I think this guy (recently paired with the SURFboard) is the main guy to thank for that. I think I've had to reset it maybe once or twice ever.

  • Official PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset w/ USB Wireless Receiver, Model CECHYA-0080. New for $100, selling for $75. These are big bulky headphones with a microphone attached. Nice sound quality, though I'm sure audiophiles would disagree.

  • Monoprice speaker stands, set of 2. New for $15-20, selling for $10. These things are flimsy but they'll hold your small speakers off the ground just the same.

Now, you're probably wondering why I'm willing to part for such like new items at such discounts. The reason is that there was a fire a month and a half ago in my old building and these were affected by the humidity and/or smoke to varying degrees. But they're all back from the Electronics Restoration Service, who tested, restored, cleaned, and deoderized each individual component before testing them again to ensure proper function. I then tested each item when I resumed possession of them.

But, because of a gap in communication between the ERS guys and my insurance claim rep, getting these things back took over a month, and in the meantime I had replaced my sound system and internet devices. I'd hoped to be able to return them within the Best Buy returns timeframe but things dragged on too long. The speaker stands I don't need because in my new place I've mounted my rear speakers on the walls. The PS3 headset I don't need because my PS3 didn't make it through the ordeal. The 360 below it and the TV above it did, though, and both work fine as a testament to these guy's abilities.

Related to that I guess I also have a couple other things for sale:

  • A slew of PS3 games. No PS3 anymore and I'm not sure I'll replace it so these are for sale. All barely affected by the incident but still individually cleaned by the guys at ERS. Let me know if you're interested in something and I'll figure a price.

  • 2 PS3 Controllers, one black and one white. Note that they did not try to restore or clean these at all since the system was shot. You can test them and we can figure out a fair price if you're interested.

So yeah. Like new, restored items for good prices. Who's interested?
u/diablo_neruda · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

this year's model is only $250

Reliability with Pioneer is still several cuts above Onkyo, but this far into entry level territory I would consider any AVR to be made as cheaply as possible and to last about as long as their warranty period.

This is my receiver. I saved $400 by getting a refurb. This is about as entry-level as you want to go for a finished basement HT. Enough power to give you 60-70 watts per channel all driven and around a hundred in stereo. Just to give you an idea of what to consider in the future.

u/thunderhayes · 1 pointr/funny

For that price, I think I'd be better off getting a Pioneer surround receiver. Something like this 5.1 ch kit.

I just got one of these for Christmas and I'm running into an issue where I hear a loud pop/crack when pausing/unpausing any media from the TV. I am using optical out from the TV directly to the box. Any suggestions? I'm not sure what could be causing it. Thanks!

u/techfish · 0 pointsr/hometheater

Panasonc TC-P50S60 $700

Denon AVR-1713 $339

Fluance 5.1 Speaker System $650

Or as seventhward recommended, a 5.1 set from Polk, Klipsch, etc. However, I would recommend spending the rest of the budget on a quality set of front speakers and adding on the 3.1 later.

u/fife55 · -7 pointsr/hometheater

you HAVE to get a sub.

Look for a deal on something like this, which is great for an apartment.
