And your house is clean! Clean house and cookies, not a total loss. Awesome job getting the courage to put yourself out there.

Though it is rude of them not to let you know they couldn't make it. This is why I use the events features of Facebook or Outlook, it makes it easy for people to let you know if they can or can't make it, or if their plans had to change due to unforeseen circumstances. It also gives them a reminder, so they don't get the day or time mixed up. The only other thing I can think of to suggest, that might give you a better result for the next get together, is to try a different day of the week. In my experience, if you aren't going to have your get together on the weekend, it is best to avoid Monday. Mondays are hard for a lot of people, especially if they have a Monday through Friday schedule. When they accept the invitation they are probably feeling pretty good, but by the end of Monday they may be feeling pretty tired because they had to adjust to being back at work or school. Give it another try in a few weeks, the worst that can happen is you end up with a clean house, cookies, and an evening to chat with us again.

Sometimes ovens will smoke if there is a spill or it hasn't been cleaned in awhile. If it is a self cleaning oven, choose a chilly day and run the cleaning cycle. If it doesn't have a self cleaning cycle this cleaner works well. If cleaning it doesn't work, or it has been cleaned recently and there haven't been any spills since, you need to have someone look at it. If it is smoking without an apparent reason, there is something wrong with it, that could be dangerous.

And can you please tell us more about your giant stuffed dinosaur? The lack of detail is driving my curiosity nuts.

I buy this oven cleaner spray from Walmart or wherever. It works just like that. Use gloves or be careful to not get it on your skin. It’ll cause irritation.

I'm using Easy Off Professional Oven and Grill Cleaner Aerosol

It not only liquefied fifty years' grease, it burnt my arm and lungs. :D

Oven cleaner is usually just lye in a spray can. We use this sort of glassware all the time in lab, and when they get too dirty, we dump them in a base bath for a few days. Same principal as using oven cleaner.

I used EZ-off fume free on Kaldor Draigo (for science!). As you can see, he got pretty bendy and the spray ate away at some of the edges.

I opted for the Fume Free as I hear it does a worse job of stripping than the standard/heavy duty stuff. I knew I was working with finecast and didn't want it to completely melt.

I sprayed all sides profusely and stuck him in a ziplock bag for two days, paint just fell off.

Kaldor stiffened back up after a good 5 day rest.

Edit: So maybe don't use EZ off. Try Simple Green.
