And your house is clean! Clean house and cookies, not a total loss. Awesome job getting the courage to put yourself out there.
Though it is rude of them not to let you know they couldn't make it. This is why I use the events features of Facebook or Outlook, it makes it easy for people to let you know if they can or can't make it, or if their plans had to change due to unforeseen circumstances. It also gives them a reminder, so they don't get the day or time mixed up. The only other thing I can think of to suggest, that might give you a better result for the next get together, is to try a different day of the week. In my experience, if you aren't going to have your get together on the weekend, it is best to avoid Monday. Mondays are hard for a lot of people, especially if they have a Monday through Friday schedule. When they accept the invitation they are probably feeling pretty good, but by the end of Monday they may be feeling pretty tired because they had to adjust to being back at work or school. Give it another try in a few weeks, the worst that can happen is you end up with a clean house, cookies, and an evening to chat with us again.
Sometimes ovens will smoke if there is a spill or it hasn't been cleaned in awhile. If it is a self cleaning oven, choose a chilly day and run the cleaning cycle. If it doesn't have a self cleaning cycle this cleaner works well. If cleaning it doesn't work, or it has been cleaned recently and there haven't been any spills since, you need to have someone look at it. If it is smoking without an apparent reason, there is something wrong with it, that could be dangerous.
And can you please tell us more about your giant stuffed dinosaur? The lack of detail is driving my curiosity nuts.
I buy this oven cleaner spray from Walmart or wherever. It works just like that. Use gloves or be careful to not get it on your skin. It’ll cause irritation.
Well thank you kind sir i am glad someone is worried about my health status... we are salmonella free over here thanks to; https://www.amazon.com/Granite-Sealer-Protector-Protectant-Maintenance/dp/B01AB21E4M/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1520729263&sr=8-1&keywords=sealer+for+granite
Why would there be a phone case with a spray bottle attachment? I'm still confused.
Edit to add: the product in question: https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Shockproof-Resistant-Protective-Designer/dp/B07554S2B5
It's on amazon with good reviews, so it's probably actually good advice.
They have a liquid version!! Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser Premixed https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B28ZYPU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_woKgDbDZTJYG3
I use Bar Keeper's Friend and it works well for me.
Either this or this and use with these. I prefer the liquid... good on ALL pans regardless of finish. (I use it on my semi-high end set with no problems... makes them look like new).
Gotta have it? Here you go....

I use these - Finish Dual Action Dishwasher Cleaner: Fight Grease & Limescale, Fresh, 8.45oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010OVNPEW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vQZCCbQAPQVXW
After using Bar Keeper's Friend, I'll never use another cleaning solution for my hookahs. Works fantastically - especially for the base (make sure you've got some hookah brushes too) and the HMD.
Still easy to clean. https://www.amazon.com/Affresh-W11042470-Cleaning-Cooktop-Cleaner/dp/B071GPKB32/ref=sr_1_3?crid=ZAIJE3CVCNYX&keywords=afresh+cooktop+cleaner+kit&qid=1565363394&s=gateway&sprefix=afresh+%2Caps%2C185&sr=8-3
Apply thinly to dirty areas of cooktop, let dry, scrape off with a razor blade, scoop up dried product. Done. Takes 5 min or less if you do it after every few days of cooking. Honestly, I do mine every night while filling the dishwasher. By the time the dishwasher is filled and the pots & pans are washed--the surface is ready to scrape. Very easy. ;)
Or, you could use a kitchen wax that doesn't smell. And the wax really does make it easier to clean up messes.
Something like this.

I use the liquid pre-mixed formula (Amazon Link). You can find this at most stores that sell cleaning supplies too. I put a small amount on a sponge and then just rinse it off after.
I just tried bar keepers friend on one of my pots and it looks like new, was shocked at how well it worked

Do you mean a glass cooktop/stove?
Have you already tried the cleaner made for glass cooktops? Here in the US, they sell products like this, which are mildly abrasive but safe... that's what I'm wondering if you've already tried.
I transitioned into working on my bikes almost entirely by myself (Wheel building/suspension service/bearings excluded) and this is the exact path I went down as well. Here is everything I bought from Amazon:
The same $50 tool kit
Torque wrench
Cable/housing/wire cutter
Chain/quick link pliers
Wet/Dry Chain lubes
Park Tool grease
Degreaser
Blue Loctite
Carbon grip paste
And some additional small things like cables, cable end caps, ferrules, zip ties, etc. A set of needle nose pliers can be handy to help push/pull stubborn cables/housings as well.
Also, to make working on the bike 10x easier, I recommend getting a stand. I use this one because I am space constrained and it folds up nice and small, but there are probably better ones out there.
It seems like a lot of $$ to lay out at first, but it pays for itself pretty quickly compared to taking the bike to a shop every time you need to do something to it. Basically everything you need to do can be found on YouTube as well.
Bar Keeper's Friend sells several liquids too. This would be similar to the polish: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B28ZYPU/
I used Barkeeper's Friend.
This has gotten out a lot of things that I didn't think would come out. If it really is a scratch in the glass, though, I don't think you can do anything with it.
Amazon has a 2-Pack of the 13oz liquid for $7.63 shipped with Prime:

I think it's having a problem draining, or perhaps there are issues with mineral build-up on the spray arms. My Amana had clogged holes in the spray arms that significantly reduced the efficiency of the unit.
You may want to try some dishwasher cleaner. These help clean and demineralize the inside of the dishwasher.
Honestly, if you have pools of soap in the bottom of the dishwasher, I think it's likely a draining problem. You may need a service man or plumber to look at it.
Also, find the manual (online or in paper) for your dishwasher. Many of these have a screen that can be easily cleaned as well as a cleaning and maintenance procedure. It may be worthwhile to try that before spending any money.
This stuff?
For your marble countertops, take a look at this product.
We had marble tile installed in the shower and also have marble countertops, both which were lightly damaged during the install. A harsh chemical was used on both and the marble developed light scratches and this ugly white film on it.
That polish brought everything back to brand-new. It was a TON of work, mostly because it really took some elbow grease to get the polish back and you only work in small areas at a time, but it was worth it.
Our remodel didn't take as long as yours, but it was definitely fraught with problems and by the end I just wanted the contractors gone. Sorry to hear about the problems you had. Hope you're able to get everything fixed and to your liking.
Edit: Regarding the product I recommended, it's a small tub, but a little goes a long way. I used about a tub and a half for the full shower.
You can just buff it out. $24 for a buffer at Menards
You'll need a cover for the buffer and some compound
Here's a how to a dug up. http://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-polish-travertine-tile
Use an old fashioned [kitchen wax](Old Fashioned Kitchen Wax and Cleaner-16 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005WW1JF6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_y4OXDbQV02KQW) on the exterior. Cleans and protects!
She may have been looking for these, I've used them when I worked in foodservice to clean grills and deep fryers. She should be able to find them at a restaurant supply store.

It not only liquefied fifty years' grease, it burnt my arm and lungs. :D

This has the right chemicals RatVision was referring to.
I got two them for $6.50 on Amazon not too long ago.
I have my electric shaver foils on 6 month s&s, so I always have a good shave without thinking.
I also have my supplements on order at appropriate timings.
The oddest item I have is dishwasher cleaner. Cleans out hard water stains and makes old dishwashers work again while eliminating the funk smell which can't be good.
at work, there’s purell spray disinfectant that says “fights against norov*” or something like that right on the front. i’m assuming it can be used at home too
They make these fancy little things too! I put water and some lemon juice in it. Works like a charm it’s called a steam’n mama microwave cleaner

Within your price bracket, I'd probably go with this laptop and then use the remaining money to get some Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut to repaste the CPU, and get some Fujipoly thermal pads on everything else.

I think everyone else has the basic cleaning tips covered already. I listen to an audiobook, podcast, or other such things when I clean. I find it makes the work go easier because I have this fun and interesting thing to listen to and if I get into it enough I want to keep cleaning so I can listen more. Music doesn't usually have the "I want more" aspect and doesn't work as well for me.
Good luck with your spring cleaning! I hope you keep feeling better and don't get sick again!
Edit: Oh! Bar Keepers Friend is amazing. It is the only thing I have found to clean my flat ceramic stove and it works wonders on the shower floor too. That floor was stained yellow when we moved in and this turned it white again. Amazing stuff.
Oven cleaner is usually just lye in a spray can. We use this sort of glassware all the time in lab, and when they get too dirty, we dump them in a base bath for a few days. Same principal as using oven cleaner.
I used EZ-off fume free on Kaldor Draigo (for science!). As you can see, he got pretty bendy and the spray ate away at some of the edges.
I opted for the Fume Free as I hear it does a worse job of stripping than the standard/heavy duty stuff. I knew I was working with finecast and didn't want it to completely melt.
I sprayed all sides profusely and stuck him in a ziplock bag for two days, paint just fell off.
Kaldor stiffened back up after a good 5 day rest.
Edit: So maybe don't use EZ off. Try Simple Green.
[Bar Keepers Friend] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B28ZYPU/ref=pd_bxgy_121_img_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5Y1KKYTAE1PTTDJBKD6P)
I have carrera marble in my kitchen. We just discovered a really huge etch due to a glass with vinegar sitting there all night. I did a little research and found this product really works wonders. There's a youtube video that you can watch to help you figure it out. Smaller etches come out with a few minutes of work. The larger ones may take a few applications. You have to reseal your counters afterwards as this removes all of the sealing. But you should do that yearly anyways.

Have you ever used Barkeeper's Friend? I use it to clean my stainless steel pans, and it works great. I haven't used it on chrome, so I don't know if it would damage it. It's worth googling around to see if people have tried it.
Hi there, I used Bar Keepers friend and a cloth rag.
