Not clothing related, but I picked up this Dyson fan for $20 last week. Power button wasn't working, was an easy fix.

Yep, my other roommate leaves one on over his bed at night. She's sure sooner or later we're going to find him there in a blended bloody mess.

When it was hot this summer, she got a vertical tower fan like this. Which, I imagine, is significantly less deadly.

Lasko Oscilating I've had one of these for 7+ years.. among the best investments in my life. Leave it on all night and lasts forever. Helps keeps demons away as good as any fan.

I do this exact thing with this

The thermostat and remote control are the bomb.

I've had a pair of box fans for years that I've used when things get really hot, but I was always trying to force air from a cooler AC affected downstairs, into the hotter, stuffy attic with no opening windows.

I moved last year, and now I've got a room with windows that open, but we've got no AC at all.

The box fan's 'low' setting is still pretty severe to be sitting in front of... I have hypersensitive skin, and my hair blowing in my face makes me itch like crazy.

The other day I went to the thrift store and picked up a used "Bionaire" oscillating desk fan like this one for just $5.99.

It uses less electricity, and oscillates, meaning it's not on me constantly... enough to give some cooling, but not enough that I start itching or getting chills.

It's also great at night when I point it at the bed, and use a spray bottle to spray some mist over me on hot nights, the oscillating helps me cool down for sleep.

I have an Ovente tower fan that I purchased at City Mill last summer. The "low" setting is powerful enough that I don't need to use it at anything higher than "low". It oscillates and also tells you the temperature.

I got this one for my 4x4 tent: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0073CQ8OU - my big one died and I liked its small footprint. It feels like it moves a lot of air.

I am building a pedestal for the corner of my tent that will have this fan and a heater on it. I will use it in conjunction with a 6 inch fan clip on fan. With another 6 inch in reserve if needed. I am in a basement too. I had to buy a tent and put it beside a window because I couldn't control heat.

> You can probably make a hot aisle with less than $50 in hardware....

Wow really? Could you give a brief run down on the hardware I'd need to look at for my use case? And thank you so much by the way for taking the time to help me with all of this, I feel like I have learned and progressing very quickly due to your guidance.

Okay so 10 inch inline fans it is:

I'm trying to decide which one to buy as most of my options I have chosen so far are quite expensive so I should choose wisely.

Here are my options for 10 inch inline fans so far:

Hyper Fan Digital Mixed Flow Fan - 10 Inch | 1065 CFM | Energy Efficient Technology, Quiet Operation - 1065 rated CFM @ 170 Watt - $204.51x2

Or

Hyper Fan Stealth 10 in 1065 CFM - 1065 rated CFM @ ??? Watt - $336.99x2 - Supposed to be much quieter?

Would you know of any other 10 inch fans I can hook up with ducting rated for high static pressure like these fans that have 170 watts or less with rated 1000+ CFM? Or are these two choices my best bet?

Also is the "Stealth version" of the 10 inch Hyper fan you think worth it? Will it blow just as much air as the non stealth version or do you think with that added stuff to enclosure of the fan it will produce less air flow?

At 83 degrees, a small fan on low blowing directly at you should be enough to keep you cool. I bought the Vornado Duo Small Room Tower Air Circulator for my office and it works great. On the lowest setting, its fairly quiet and has a nice gentle breeze that keeps me cool.

If you can give up the footprint, I really like the Oscillating tower fan I picked up at a thrift store. Placed in the corner of my 4x4 tent.

Something like this

I have this fan: link

It's been through hell and back but it's far superior to any other floor fan I have owned. Probably put it through thousands of hours over the past few years in the summer. Works great and moves more air than any other floor fan I've used. Low profile as well.

I have never had a Lasko or Vornado fail on me. And I'm not using 30 year old stainless steel Made in Chicago, or whatever Vornado, I'm talking about a 5-6 year old Chinese one. It gets fairly heavy use. Lasko fans are largely Assembled in USA of imported parts.

Regarding the tower fan--I own some Lasko box fans and some standard Vornado air circulators. Obviously tower fans are a different breed of fan, so your mileage by vary, but either of these two brands are fine by me.

EDIT: If I recall, Air King is the higher end and/or commercial line of Lasko, or something like that. Air King makes this tower fan which has good reviews. I would either get that or get a Vornado and hope for the best.

I recently got one of these. Not only is it very quiet but it can blast you with an unrelenting wall of air. I'm amazed actually.

I have the SP4 i7 model and haven't had heat problems, but I have a Vornado Flippi fan on my desk that helps circulate the air. The fan was on my desk long before I got the surface so never noticed if there was a heat issue.

How far do you have to go to not lie to a customer then?

They didn't show the customer charging the item, paying their electric bill, the power station that makes the power... all essential if you want to have a working fan, but that's a given.

They're also not the only ones advertising their products free from power cables...

If you've got a tower-fan, set it up as an "air curtain" at the open window.
