Nothing could ever get past me when I wore those hard plastic shitty foam filled pads.

Edit: My god, they still sell the EXACT same ones I had some 14 odd years ago, http://www.amazon.com/Mylec-MGP-Goalie-Pads/dp/B002LBE016

Looks like right now the following are still in stock and on sale:

This is great advice. My mite player also tried his hand at goalie, and had some great games (keeping the opponent under 7 goals in mite hockey can be a great game lol), but a few years later decided that he didn't want to play hockey after 4 years skating and 1.5 seasons rotating in goal.

Our mite league had pads for goalies to use, but they were kind of crappy and too big for some of the mite players.

One year the coach bought a set of appropriately sized mite hockey goalie equipment and the parents with kids who wanted to play goal pitched in a bit. YMMV with that, b/c he paid most of it and kept the gear b/c he had more kids who were gonna want to use it and he coached in multiple leauges.

As far as practice, you can get street hockey goalie gear for whipping pucks around the basement / garage / etc, and that stuff is pretty safe and MUCH less expensive (especially the helmets). For example, this helmet tells you in big letters DO NOT USE FOR ICE HOCKEY, but literally half the goalies in the league used them b/c they're $50 instead of $140 and no one in mite hockey is ripping slapshots from the circle.

Pick up a cheap street hockey stick and run tape horizontally across the front and back of the blade. 3 strips of 1" tape was enough to cover my whole blade on my street stick. I wouldn't use a composite stick on concrete, what a waste.

I am still learning to skate and have not even held a stick on the ice, but took a shot in the dark on Warrior Covert DT1L85G3 It is $250 on another website so I figured what the hell. Thanks for the heads up OP

This was the exact stick I bought when I first started playing about 6 years ago, except mine was an 85 flex. I loved it, it's name was "Animal Mother". It eventually got worn out enough I replaced it.

First, the Draper blade is now the Henrique with Warrior (also used to be Kopitar). I got a Warrior AX1 on clearance, but it seems like many websites are getting really low on stock of these. I found it to perform very similar to the AK. I prefer the matte finish, but the grip on the AX1 works great. It's not what I would call tacky the way normal "grip" sticks are. I'm pretty sure any of the Warrior Dynasty sticks would be comparable to your AK.

yeah when I went on the chat to complain, that was the first option the guy offered me. I don't know if my situation was different since my order was labelled as "shipped" but the tracking info had nothing.

as for the stick, i got this one

the curves have been eliminated to just burrows and kovalev, it seems both on backorder at this point. that was the same one I tried to order in the kremlin curve.

however, it seemed like any similar stick should work so if you can find something you like in different flexes and grip options, that is available, maybe try that

I'm not sure if this is "Recommended" but I used one of these when I cut one of my sticks a bit too short. It's a solid piece of wood and comes with some glue to keep it in there. It seems to work relatively well but after some shots it feels like it might come loose. Not as good as having your stick the proper length, but better than throwing a stick away.

They still make those, only they've been updated to BLACK OR WHITE, probably aren't nearly the indestructible brown and foam pads I had in the 80s.
