UPDATE: We tried filtering through 3 of the 4" Culina Fine Mesh Nylons Strainers, with the middle one at a 45 degree angle to the other two. Didn't get any better at all.

I also had a hop bag available that I had bought for future dry-hopping (one like this: http://www.brewinternational.com/straining-bag-reusable-nylon-mesh-with-draw-string/) and we tried using that stretched over a single strainer and pushed down into the strainer bowl. http://imgur.com/SB3rSTL That worked better but clogged and slowed often, so it had to be cleaned frequently.

So, I'm going to try one of these when I have my new hosing setup put together:

Several home brewers have had luck with these strainers, according to homebrew forums. When you put a coffee filter or tight mesh hop bag cloth in a strainer or funnel like I did previously, you get build up that tends to clog the filter where gravity is trying to pull the liquid through. This in-line filter allows for the liquid to pass through the screen and multiple places and angles, so it will take a long while to clog. And if I need something a little tighter, I can try a hop bag in there, or another trick several folks swear by: pantyhose!
