Whole wheat bread, peanut butter, honey or jelly, bananas.

Maybe the hotel has hot water somewhere? Like a coffee pot you can use? If they do then you could make oatmeal and cup o noodle.

OMG. I forget about electric kettles. Small ones. Let me go find a link. Here is a small 1 liter one on Amazon. Boils hot water in minutes. $10

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BRSY7SU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_Ixd1DbVYRD5GA

There is also the dash mini griddle. Makes one egg it's so small. $12

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SM1WFJN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_FDd1Db249SHQ8

I'd hide both of these items from house keeping, but they would get some hot food into you.

Edit: I was wrong in this one. Google says 2 hours only. so you'd need that ice bucket for the eggs. Raw unbroken eggs will keep unrefrigerated just fine for some days.

Yeah dude, it has a nifty little base that plugs into the wall. It only heats up when it's on the base but when you pick it up you're not dragging a cord around with you. And once it starts steaming enough it pops the shutoff. Amazon link, if anybody's interested.

Here's a mishmash of items that I really love having in my apartment:

  • Command Strips for hanging pictures/mirrors/various objects without putting holes in walls.
  • A diffuser of some sort. I have this one from Saje, but there are lots of different kinds of varying prices on Amazon. You can get different blends of essential oils that smell really nice and help with stress management, sleep, etc.
  • My slow cooker is my best friend, for real.
  • Colouring books are a big thing now. I really like having a few lying around for when I'm bored or need to relax!
  • Containers to pack up all the delicious food she'll be making in her slow cooker! ;)
  • French press and kettle. Also this ADORABLE SLOTH TEA INFUSER.

That's not a stove top kettle. That's an electric kettle that you put on its base. https://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-KBO1401R-Electric-Kettle/dp/B00CMFQBJ0

Also, heads up on the plastic kettle, they're very harmful.

They exude massive amounts of estrogen, BPA and other harmful toxins.

Opt for a stainless steel or all glass kettle. They're so much nicer and the water tastes cleaner.

I just did a quick google search and came up with this: http://www.amazon.com/Electric-Samovar-Large-6lt-Capacity/dp/B005O16JEQ

If it is similar to that unit it is most certainly resistive load only and should work at approximately half power output when plugged into US 120v.

I have an electric kettle. Greatest thing ever. It might not boil as quickly as it does in Europe, but a couple liters of water will still boil faster than on the burner.

For those who are mildly confused about what an electric kettle is referring to:

If you have the money to fork out, this one is great.

Budget Kettle.

  • Automatic tea maker

  • Automatic burger cooker / assembler, which takes custom orders

  • Robot cars are driving on public roads; I think robots can handle moving stock inside a restaurant

  • No oven or microwave because the machines are their own ovens

  • Fixing / replacing is not a full-time job, any more than fixing / replacing soda machines requires a full-time employee

  • Dishes can be disposable / recyclable

So basically you need one guy to clean floors, one to clean tables, and one to take orders.

That's pretty much the standard for an electric kettle in the UK, e.g.:

Russell Hobbs

Kenwood

Bosch

Philips

Here is my coffee setup. My inverter is so large because I also use an induction cooktop. You could get a 1kw inverter. I got pure sine wave. Not sure if it is needed for coffee equipment, it is for the cooktop.

UK here, I'm curious as to what you mean by a tea kettle. I have something similar to this which just boils water. Add this to your mug with a teabag and Bob's your uncle - TEA!

Also, Yorkshire Tea is the tastiest. It comes in bag form and is wonderful.

Electric kettle. I am partial to this one. It has a nicely designed base where it will sit on it with the handle pointing in any direction.

It's easily the most-used small appliance in our kitchen. We use it every morning for coffee, all the time for tea, oatmeal / hot cereal, boiling up water if you want to get crud off of a pan, whatever. You can even cook eggs in it (carefully; you put the raw eggs in and hit the button, it goes up to boil and then shuts off, and you let the eggs sit there for a few more minutes -- easy).

Due to the low US voltage it's not as fast to boil water as Euro 220V kettles but it's still amazingly convenient.

So let's talk physics and thermo dynamics... So the question is, will a smaller diameter brewkettle help keep the boil going? Will moving down to an 8gal kettle (which is the same size as the burner) solve the problem?

I started with a 5gal brew pot. Seems to work ok, but I still have concerns about topping off the wort with fresh out of the tap water to bring it to 5gals... I really want to do full 5gal boils.

After doing a bunch of reading here and homebrewtalk, I decided to skip the 8gal brew kettle and go right for the 10gal.

We're still brewing on the stove, it's a glass electric burner. Even on high, we needed the lid on to get the wort boiling. Once we'd take the lid off to stir it would lose the boil. (I have no idea what effect this would have on the beer... ^[1])

`<br /> <br /> Some numbers:<br /> <br /> `

  • Burner diameter: 12"
  • Burner area: π * (12" / 2)^2 = 113"^2

    ` `

  • 10 Gal BK I purchased.
  • 10 Gal BK Diam: 16" (according to amazon it's 17"... which would further compound the issue)
  • 10 Gal BK Area: π * (16 / 2)^2 = 201"^2

    ` `

  • 8 Gal BK I'm considering buying.
  • 8 Gal BK Diam: 12"
  • 8 Gal BK Area: π * (12" / 2)^2 = 113"^2

    ` `

So according to my calculations, it looks like there's a whole 88"^2 that is not being heated, but is letting off heat when I have the lid off my 10gal BK.

My hypothesis is, by switching to a narrower BK, I'll be able to boil the 5gal consistently because I'm adding heat in the same surface area I'm letting it go... (clumsily explained by a non scientist... I'm sure there's better science words to describe what I'm trying to impart...)

    Thoughts?

Is it possible that my stove just isn't powerful enough to boil 5gal?

If I get a propane burner, I can't use that indoors, right? That seems like a bad idea to me... but brewing outdoors seems so... dirty? Error prone? we get a lot of "cotton" (from the cottonwoods) flying around here...

I'm working my way towards all grain brewing... if I have a 10Gal HLT can I use a 8 gal mash tun? the 8 gal I picked specifically for the false bottom...

  • [1] and we'll never get to find out since we dropped the glass carboy and there were some nice cracks in it... I figured feeding glass shards to family and friends was a bad idea...

Altes Thema, hier trotzdem mein Senf:

I need an iced tea maker

I am trying very hard to get healthier and part of that is giving up soda (regular and diet). One of my favorite things is plain, fresh brewed iced tea. No sweetener, nothing.

I bought the standard Hamilton Beach kettle with no gauge or anything about a year and a half ago,and that has been working without issue since then. I later bought the same brand but with temperature control and it has worked well for the about 6 months I've had it, but I find that it will generally overheat the water by about 5-10 degrees F (when set to below boiling obviously).

Right now I'm eyeing the Bonavita gooseneck kettle with temperature control as an upgrade, but if you want something cheap I would definitely say the basic Hamilton Beach is a good choice. Costco generally has it for I think cheaper than Amazon, so if you have access there I would take a look.

On a sidenote, I've been told it's better to start using a plain straight to boil kettle so you can get a better intuition for how you actually brew your tea, but I honestly just forget about my water too easily when I'm doing other things and making tea so the temperature control is good for me! Remember, you can always get a thermometer inexpensively, which is good to have around the kitchen anyway :D
