I am lactose intolerant, but I eat ice cream and cheese no probs because I use lactase pills pretty religiously.

Saved me from a dairy free existence for a good 7 years. Sadly doesn't work if you actually have a milk allergy.

There's a new line of thinking regarding treatments and cures - specially crafted molecules that will feed the good bacteria in your gut while starving the bad. That's the idea behind RP-G28, a potential cure for lactose intolerance. They've had a lot of success as an herbal supplement, now they're trying to get FDA approval.

The bigger picture is that they're aiming to CURE pretty much any ailment that's affected by gut bacteria.

Facetious or not, I got your back.

Try a lactase supplement, Lactase is what breaks down lactose and if you're lactose intolerant it is one of the reasons you get indigestion there is a lack of lactase in American pasteurized dairy and you lack it naturally due to your lactose intolerance ,so the sugars and protein in your dairy go undigested and become nerve gas. It is an enzyme so it is easy enough to go about getting in our system and cheap. It dies off due to the high heat in US pasteurization process.

I was much like you and started drinking a protein shake daily that contained lactase but they offer it as a supplement.

If you have amazon prime these work just as well for me and save me money:

Kirklands Fast Acting Lactase 180 count: $0.11 per pill

Kirklands Fast Acting Lactase 750 count: $0.109 per pill

They don't really go bad so you can stock up. But you also don't really save any more buying more (although if you don't have prime you'll get free shipping on orders $35 over which the 750 count has).

Oh gosh no! We get the Kirkland brand in bulk. I use them from time-to-time too. I'm not full on lactose intolerant but I get a little gassy sometimes. I know the chewable ones you're talking about, my parents gave those to me when I was a kid, bad memories.

We get these: https://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signature-Fast-Acting-Lactase/dp/B000VS4BF6/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467058020&sr=8-3&keywords=lactaid+pills

This is a very different, and in my opinion, vastly superior pill option to the every-meal pills: Lacto-Freedom Lactose Intolerance Pills– Patented Lactase Enzyme Supplement – Provides Long Term Relief From Cramps, Gas, Bloating & Diarrhea – 7 Days Dosing Regimen Allows Healthy Dairy Digest https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HU4YOHS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hoB1Cb81B4FG9

I did the week-long regimen two months ago and am shocked at how well it's worked. I can chug two cups of normal milk with zero issues. YMMV

Over-the-counter lactase tablets which you can chew just before taking your first bite or swallow of a dairy product are usually of great help to the lactose intolerant.

The liquid lactase is dramatically more expensive than the pills. A "dose" of liquid, as far as I've seen, has 750 "lactase units," (whatever they are) while the pills have 9,000 each. The bottle has 75 of these doses, and if you buy the costco pills, you get 180 for about the same price. So the liquid costs more than 20 times as much.

I'd try just crushing up a pill and putting it in the milk. The taste of the binders shouldn't be noticeable in a half gallon or more.

u/phyneas · 2 pointsr/ireland

Lactase is your friend! Get yourself some of these and eat all the dairy you want.

u/Vinnie_Vegas · 2 pointsr/vegetarian

>(I'm also lactose intolerant and can't afford the pills to correct it lol, forgot to mention)

You can't afford these?

I'd wager to suggest that you can't afford fast food either.

u/shay626 · 2 pointsr/budgetfood

Buy generic (can't really go wrong as the key ingredient is the lactase enzyme), it's pretty cheap: 180 Pills for $21.99 on Amazon ($.12 a pill). You can probably get smaller quantities at a similar price point at your local drugstore. It's worth it to be able to eat ice cream without the dreadful repercussions.

u/ilikesleep · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

If that's the case, you may as well add Lactase to your wishlist as well.

I used to have your problem also, so I just take one of these every time I drink milk.

For anyone who's lactose intolerant, the best deal I've found for lactase enzyme pills is at Costco. They're also on Amazon, for about 12 cents/pill.

u/MagnaFarce · 1 pointr/cripplingalcoholism

Get some lactase enzyme pills (lactase is the enzyme to break down the milk sugars that your body no longer produces) and start eating some dairy again. They work great.

No problem! The stuff above is all vegan-friendly; you can also go some non-vegan routes for even more options:
