Same here. This is what's helping me:

(1) Watching "atypical" show on netflix that follows a fictional non-masking person with asperger's through their daily life struggles, and illustrates asperger's surprisingly well -- I find myself suddenly freely stimming and accessing "locked away" parts of my self-expression while watching that show

(2) Removing pathogens from the gut, since the pathogens seem to force the gut lining into a tense/constricted state that makes trauma release almost impossible (for me), but makes that same trauma release effortless and involuntary once the physical presence of the pathogens is removed, through (a) heavy used of garlic with each meal containing milk or carbs (even in convenient powdered form, or as nearly tasteless capsules), (b) food-grade diatomaceous earth once per day (in capsules, if you prefer that over mixing it into water) and (c) enterosgel (seems to be the most powerful toxin binder available) to clean up the mess of toxins that pathogens release when they are killed by the diatomaceous earth once per day.

Same here, but then I found out they make time-release Melatonin and that seems to be helping quite a bit. Might give that a try.

I highly recommend Tranquil Sleep. I work 3rd shift and have been using these for the last month or so. Also use blue blocker glasses to watch TV for an hour or so before hitting the sack. Combined, these are awesome. I rarely have a problem sleeping since I started using them.

u/rainbowhugdancer · 3 pointsr/quittingkratom

yeah, I would worry that I had permanently broken something too. believe me, this is all temporary while your body adjusts. I found this stuff

http://www.amazon.com/Irwin-Naturals-Power-Liquid-Softgels/dp/B005S6XHJW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398269243&sr=8-1&keywords=power+to+sleep+pm

after trying melatonin and valerian and all the over the counter stuff and it worked the best for me.

Day 15 was still shitty for me. it took about a month to feel "normal and healthy" but it did get less shitty progressively during that month.

hang in there.

Hello! New here, been lurking for a while...

Just thought I'd say these are really good at resetting messed up sleeping patterns.

u/Tookah45 · 3 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

It won't keep you awake per se, but it's not supposed to make you sleepy. Antihistamines in particular are known for their drowsiness. So much so that diphenhydramine (the active ingredient of Benadryl) is sold by itself in a higher dosage specifically as a sleep aid. Medications that are marked as "non-drowsy" typically will not contain chemicals which cause drowsiness, opting instead for something like loratadine (Claritin), cetirizine (Zyrtec) or fexofenadine (Allegra).

u/tipothehat · 3 pointsr/Fitness

I don't think your example constitutes bad sleep quality. Generally I think the more tossing and turning, the longer you take to go to sleep, if you wake up frequently in the night, if you wake up too early and have trouble falling asleep again, all constitute bad sleep quality.

Melatonin, magnesium, and st. john's wort are natural sleep aids. Here are some more.

I use these a couple times a week when I want to sleep more to catch up on sleep, or to correct my sleep schedule. They're non-habit forming and you aren't too groggy in the morning.

u/AlexTakeTwo · 2 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

Yep. While I do not necessarily believe in "adrenal fatigue" that is not Addison's Disease, and there's a lot of debate in the medical community, I have found a cortisol support supplement helpful. I had zero luck with MDs for any sort of help or diagnosis so I ended up seeing a naturopathic doctor (US.) While I am still working through a fibro diagnosis, one of the things they "confirmed" was "adrenal fatigue" which is basically that my cortisol levels were out of whack, causing that feeling of always panic or overwhelmed/overreacting. She put me on something called ashwaganda sold as a Cortisol Manager. I take it at bedtime, and along with some mental work to calm myself down it seems to be helping. At the very least, it helps enough that it changes the "vivid dreams" side effect of my bedtime meds from nightmares to pleasant dreams.

They can read heart rate and movement. I used to use this https://www.amazon.com/Zeo-Model-ZEOBP01-Personal-Sleep-Manager/dp/B002IY65V4

Some random thoughts:

Over-training can cause problems with sleep. Are you riding too much, too soon perhaps?

Magnesium deficiency can cause poor sleep as well. Eating spinach, nuts (cashews, brazil nuts, and almonds), or seeds (pumpkin seeds especially) before bed or at dinner could help. If you happen to go to the doctor any time soon, try to stick with your current diet and ask them to test your magnesium level.

Less random:

I've dealt with sleep issues my whole life. It takes me forever to fall asleep, and I have very vivid dreams that I usually wake up from. I also have a hard time sleeping after my post-work rides sometimes too. So I spend a lot of time in bed awake.

I take some magnesium and zinc supplements (usually split the zinc one in half as it has so much in it) about an hour before bed 2-3 times a week after a late ride. I usually get a better night's sleep when I do.

A couple months ago I started taking melatonin, 2-3mgs under the tongue, and my quality of sleep has improved tremendously. I see it causes some problems for you though. You could try less or more and see if that helps? The 5mg melatonin pill is pretty common, so it could be too much for you. I've been using these 1mg pills.

u/Musichead2468 · 2 pointsr/nba

Has anyone here taken Kirkland Signature Nighttime Sleep Aid 25mg? If so, how did it work for you?

u/moose098 · 2 pointsr/Nootropics

Melatonin and Valerian Root (not sure if it is considered a noot). I also highly recommend this.

u/kevinkm77 · 2 pointsr/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

Might I recommend this product, sir. It knocks you out in 30 minutes with no harmful side effects, even for long term use.

u/watsoned · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I need some stuff to help me sleep since it is going on a week now that I can't get to sleep, and then I wake up restless a few hours later.

EDITED TO CHANGE ITEM UPON ADVICE GIVEN.

u/schmin · 2 pointsr/ADHD

A number of people find that <1mg of melatonin works better than ≥1mg, so if you attempt that route (after doing some of your own research, talking to your doctor, etc.) start with 0.25mg (250mcg) in the liquid form, or half of a 0.5mg (500mcg) dose, like the chewable peppermint ones that Trader Joe's sells for ~$5/100 pills. I think Amazon has a similar one, so you have an idea what to look for.

I also use Magnesium Citrate (citrate is more bio-available than other forms of magnesium, so it's better even if it's not the cheapest). Again, do some research for yourself.

'Natural' and 'Herbal' Supplements can still interact with your other medications and medical issues, so do your research, talk with your doctor or pharmacist, and be careful.

I am so sorry sleep is alluding you! As someone with anxiety, I've struggled with insomnia on and off for years. I've tried sleepy time tea, melatonin, meditation, seemingly every over the counter sleep aid. I took Ambien for a bit but I was scared of developing a dependency.

I know you said you've tried upping your magnesium. Is it from a quality source? Magnesium oxide is very poorly absorbed. Magnesium chelate or magnesium glycinate might work better. I take it one hour before bed and it's really helped my overactive mind.

If you want to cover all your bases, I like this product a lot. The magnesium/melatonin/GABA combo is powerful. I take it when I have a lot on my mind and suspect I'll either have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Wishing you restful nights!

Most drug stores only have 3-10mg tablets which is way too much. I highly recommend a liquid form where you can dose as much or as little as you want such as https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0064BUP0Y.

u/dreyes_off · 1 pointr/sleep

I'm taking 12mg melatonin fast dissolve tablets (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GR9WBFY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and I always make sure to have my caffeinated drinks within the first 4 hours of my day. Also, I use black out curtains and blue light filters for my phone.

u/xactoman · 1 pointr/eldertrees

Buy this and take 1 single drippy drop under your tongue right before bed. This is what I use so the math is already done for you. Each drop is just about 0.25mg, maybe a hair more. Also, dropping it under the tongue and letting it sit (sublingual) is a faster route of administration than oral (tablets/capsules). I was having the worst sleep of my life until I worked this into my personal daily rituals. Added bonus, that one bottle will last 5-6 years if it doesn't spoil hahahaha. If anyone here is curious about other natural sleep aids I'd love to rant. I've worked in health food stores doing just this for a bit, on top of being a fledgling herbal medicine-man... so I feel confident in saying I know some stuff, but I'm no expert.

I am struggling to fall a sleep as well, what works for me is cbd gummies with melatonin, they knock me out pretty fast and tastes good.

u/Aethyr42 · 1 pointr/Anxiety

This stuff works pretty well for me. It's all natural and can be found at pretty much any drug store.

Here you go! I can't get the same brand from the States (well I might be able to, I haven't looked) but these are the ones here. I really should put an order in, I ran out last night so I need to buy more today - if I put an order through now I should get them in a couple of weeks when the next lot run out!

Edit: See look at this price! http://www.amazon.com/Simply-Right-Sleep-Diphenhydramine-Softgels/dp/B002JS1ZAK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1405902478&sr=8-3&keywords=Diphenhydramine+HCl

> I imagined myself painstakingly measuring it into each capsule.

I kind of do something like that sometimes, though I just wrap it in thin paper and swallow it before the whole mess comes loose. It's...probably not the best solution, to be totally honest.

If you want to experiment on a budget, I'd strongly recommend theanine+caffeine as a base. It's very inexpensive and works pretty well, though caffeine tolerance is annoying. Also, while it's more for anxiety than energy, I really enjoy Ashwagandha.

Oddly, caffeine and Ashwagandha are two of the few things I'd recommend buying in pill form. Caffeine because it tastes awful and is so cheap (like $5 on Amazon for 100 pills), and Ashwagandha because I happen to rather like this specific brand which is both high quality and quite affordable.

Right now I'm trying to write a romance, actually. New for me, though I'm enjoying it more than I would've expected. I just need to get a firm grasp on the subgenre, because it seems to be slipping away from me a little bit.

edit: Also, one other recommendation: Melatonin. It's dirt cheap and getting a good night's sleep helps with energy the next day. Melatonin kind of has a bad rap because most bottles of it have like 3-10mg doses, which is too much. Even the bottle I linked is 1mg, so I'd recommend cutting them in half.

edit2: So many typoes. Sorry. I basically didn't sleep last night.

u/way2funni · 1 pointr/Fitness

ima leave this right here

You can get it at whole foods or any real vitamin shop - worked for me and I was overweight (300lb) had sleep apnea , Type 2 diabetes, back pain and a shitty twin bed.

You'll sleep like a baby. Last hour before you go to bed = no TV or computer monitor, read a book or lay in bed and listen to music and relax.

Take this stuff about an hour before you lay down. Do not exceed dosage - you won't need to. No napping during the day.

Stay away from the benydryl and diphenhydramine and crap -it's ok once in a while but you will become a zombie and after a while it stops being effective.

Hope this helps.

If you are waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom , you might try not drinking water after 6pm.

u/arc4rnd · 1 pointr/cfs

I used to have this problem, and taking melatonin has completely solved it for me. I use this brand: http://www.amazon.com/Schiff-Melatonin-Plus-25-Theanine/dp/B000FCEB2G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1322693775&sr=8-4

I have been taking it for ~2 years. The effectiveness grew gradually over the first year as it allowed me to start sleeping on a regular schedule (a laughable proposition before I started taking it). I have had insomnia issues since I was very young though, so they weren't totally related to getting sick.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/weightroom

I ordered a bottle of this stuff: https://www.amazon.ca/NightRest-Source-Naturals-100-tablet/dp/B0001VVXM2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469539736&sr=8-1&keywords=nightrest

GABA, magnesium, melatonin and some other shit. Suggested serving is 5mg melatonin/2 pills but from what I've been reading that's way too much so I'll probably take quarter pills (like 0.6mg melatonin).

u/FireMoliturd · 1 pointr/benzodiazepines

Go check the sleepaid aisle and the homeopathic aisle and look for herbal remdies and different sleeping pill formulations. I tend to stay away from anti-histamines like benedryl, they give me RLS and make me feel weird.

It's trial and error to find something that works. Melatonin is good, but has odd quirks: like having to lie down immediately after taking it and not sit up again for it to take effect. Also, less-is-more with melatonin, meaning a low dose works better - do some research because there is more you can do to increase it's effectiveness. >>This is what worked best for me after a lot of searching, maybe give it a try

u/Confusioner · 0 pointsr/LucidDreaming

I am using Zeo Bedside Sleep Manager with ZeoScope for REM sleep detecting and Lucid sound cuing. If you planning on buying, use amazon, which 30$ cheaper than offical price.. This device has a serial port for monitoring realtime EEG data (Which ZeoScope use). You will need 3.3v FTDI TTL serial USB cable (Normal serial-to-usb adapter won't work) for pluging into PC. More details about this can be found here.

You might want to try

https://www.amazon.com/Vitafusion-Sleep-Gummy-Support-melatonin/dp/B006GIYTRU

You can find them at Walmart, Target and Walgreens. I promise you, they work. Chew two, brush your teeth and play a mindless game on your phone. 20 minutes and you're not going to wake up for a good 6-7 hours. No after effects.
