So I'm Male to Female Transgender and I'm starting to expand my outfit collection and I bought these this weekend:

I think "nobody cares" is a lazy answer. The OP is trying to fit in with the locals and get some advice on the local style.

Germans do not wear very much makeup and a lot of women here do not wear makeup at all. A friend visiting from LA remarked about it, how when she did her normal routine she felt very "made up" compared to everyone else. On the other hand, especially in Munich people tend to dress more formally than Americans do. Back in the US, I would wear sweat pants and flip flops to go grocery shopping, but if you do that here you look like a homeless person. I almost never go out without jeans or black leggings.

As far as winter fashion, I highly recommend buying a parka-style jacket in a dark color. By that I mean a jacket with a hood and long enough to cover your butt. Something like this. Germans also wear a lot of scarves, I never used to wear them but now I use one all the time. Really helps to keep your neck warm. And definitely get a pair of ankle boots. I never wore something like that in my life (also lived in a hot climate), but they are perfect for walking in mushy snow and keeping your feet warm and dry. Those I recommend to just buy here in Munich, then you can see the local styles and they should not be too expensive. Go to Marienplatz, there is tons of shopping and department stores where you can get shoes and jackets.

Also, if lots of your shoes are heels, just keep in mind you have to walk a LOT more in Munich than you did back home. And there are cobble stones, and stairs, and puddles, and rain, and snow, etc. And Germans do not wear shoes inside the house. So I realized, wearing nice heels just means I have to suffer on the way to visit a friend, and then take them off as soon as I get there! What is the point of that!?! I stopped wearing heels completely after the first year, so consider leaving your strappy sandals at home. It will be too cold for them anyway.

Will you be staying until summer? In summer the usual "rules" are relaxed a lot and you see more people wearing shorts and casual clothes. People in Munich love going to the river and outdoor pools, so there is a little more beach style on hot days and you could get away with more bright colors in that time of year. When I moved here I had brought a lot of sleeveless shirts and sundresses with me, but got rid of them all because it is so rarely warm enough to wear them.

You're not wrong - this is kind of a hard style to find online. I found these Harley Davidson boots which are honestly kind of bitchin' and look a little less round in the to. I know it has the logo on the side but that might either be removable or easy to cover up with something else.

I also found these from Forever 21 so I'm not sure of the quality.

There are also these Frye boots but the shape looks fairly similar to Docs.

One idea might be to keep an eye out for vintage boots!

I don't know if you'd be willing to give Frye another shot, but I just got these last week, and I'm in love. They were a little heavy on my feet the first day I wore them, but I've worn them 3 times since, and now I find them quite comfortable. I can tell they are good quality, and that I'll be wearing them for years to come. Depending on your size, they are likely in your price range on Amazon. Haven't checked other retailers. Let me know if you want pics of them on, and I'd be happy to post.

What's your budget?

Rieker Women's Sierra Long Boots 37 M EU/6.5 B(M) US Olive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0744PQYQS/

These have some hardware going on, but it doesn't take over the boot

These are from a company I've never heard of, but they're pretty close

Zappos has these, but they're not crazy tall

'Slouch boot' and 'olive boot' on eBay both returned some possibilities, but you gotta crawl through 100s of listings to find them

Having lived here all my life I have a variety but you may not want to buy as many. I have something like this for grip and something like this for higher snows/shoveling snow/wearing when its cold and I’m wearing a dress or skirt. I dont like the grip on them as much though so sometimes I pair with crampons depending on what I’m doing.

Anyway, I don’t think as a newbie you need more than one solid boot. If you are looking at this one, I think its a good choice. Some may say overkill, but if you have a 20 minute walk in the cold, you may appreciate at least having space for layers of wool socks and a place to tuck in some under-armor.

I came here to rep the Ugg shearling-lined Bonham chelsea boots, which perhaps might be the perfect boot for you given the name, haha. I live in the upper Midwest and these work great a lot of the time. For general super-snowy weather I have a different pair of pull-on Uggs (I really hate having to spend time lacing/unlacing when I've just come in and I'm all wet and cold and covered in snow). The chelsea height is more casual and works throughout fall and spring, and during winter when it's well-shoveled and not an actual snowstorm situation. And they are pretty cute, I think. (I have an older version that is black nubuck and without as much detailing as the one I linked)

I recommend not getting much in the way of heels on your boots, getting a pull-on style for the reason mentioned above, and I also highly recommend a real wool lining instead of faux shearling because your feet will get sweaty and stinky in there, and real wool cuts down on that compared to polyester.

When I think of rain boots, I always think of bright crazy colors and I envy people with all these fun boots. If the red/pink/yellow ones are calling to you, answer them!

Also, if you do decide to go with darker colors, I got some Chooka herringbone ones that are more fun than just plain ones, but also blend in well at work.

Depends on your style, what size your foot is, and how bad your winters are.

If you tend towards a more edgy style, like I do, I recommend all types- I have a pair kind of like these but with a slightly higher shaft- they're flannel lined and really warm. I've had them for about 8 years now and with some semi-regular leather conditioning, they've held up really well. These are decently waterproof (obviously water can still get in if it's higher than the eyes of the boot, but light ground wetness should be no problem.) However, if your winters are heavy and snow can be ankle deep, I'd suggest getting an additional actual snow boot (like bean boots.)

If you're not looking to invest as much money into this style and you just want shoes with good tread for light wetness and light snow (if either your area gets really mild winters or heavier winter for which you have aforementioned proper snow boots), it might be worth it to look into getting a pair of big kid/youth doc martens. Obviously this depends on your shoe size- if you wear US women's shoes, take your shoe size and subtract 2 to get your youth size. I recently did this (normally wear a 7.5/8, purchased a youth 6) for a cheaper, more knock around pair of doc martens and it worked out really well. The boots have a zipper so they're a lot faster to get on and off- the only downside is that the zipper makes them less waterproof than the lace up ones.

I love my boots that are like this (I couldnt find the color I have). I live in northern indiana and these do the job (and the fur is so cozy, js)

The colors are a little different but these look awfully close!

u/peppermintys · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I think they're unironically gorgeous but all my friends think thy're hilarious. I have a pair of these eyesearing bad boys. Fun fact, each of the two shoes actually has a slightly different design. All of my friends agree that they fit my personality well enough that I can pull them off.

I have these docs, they're different and super soft, and have a flexible shaft

I have ones from Columbia that fit my calves great and they are a lot cheaper than Hunter. The normal Hunter ones were too tight on my calves, but their wide calf ones fit fine.

I carry a purse. I just bought a Dakine Jive to replace my last purse which was literally falling apart at the seams. So far I like it, it's not huge but it holds my wallet, phone, iPod, keys, my bottle of various pills (advil for me, tylenol for SO, allergy pills and cold and sinus for allergies) and my small bag of beauty stuff (just lip balm/gloss/lipstick and hair ties)

If I don't want to bring my purse somewhere (either to a music show or the bar) I wear my pocket boots. They fit money, my ID and credit cards. They could also hold my home key if I wasn't wearing something with pockets. They won't hold a phone so usually I end up wearing jeans and putting my phone/keys in my jean pockets.

Thanks!! I also really like the style, looks so comfy. Gonna keep looking =w=

These Doc Martens are similar but do not have a black sole. Frye's Samantha Boot and Frye's Veronica boot are similar as well. Hope this helps.
