Conundrum cracked.
I just got this military parka from Amazon for $27 plus shipping. This is just the shell. The liner is sold separately for around $25 I think. I'm 6'5" 210 lbs and got the largest size they had. which is a GR19. The chest a little big but I like the length of it. Can't beat military quality for such a cheap price. Link for those interested.
Same here. I bought one like almost 20 years ago. I've washed it dozens of times (even in bleach) kept it folded in my pocket, and just generally beat the shit out of it, but it still looks like it did the day I bought it.
Of course I have a big head, so I cut off the strings early on. (They do fade with bleach.) The hat fits so snuggly on my head that the strings are unneeded.

For $30 the US issue USMC combat top is a steal, but they only seem to have medium long.

It was a lot less when I bought it, but it's a fantastic warming layer. I'd keep checking back if you don't feel like dropping over $70 on it.
Just coming back to your post. If you were referring to this maroon bomber, then definitely wait for a different sale on the regular MA-1 Slim. Notice that the Rack's model has that velcro sh*t all over it; reviews I've seen have not been kind as a result of that, and for good reason imho. I bought my brother a maroon MA-1 Slim for Christmas last year, and it's gorgeous. He loves it. I would have bought an identical one for myself, but I had already developed a bomber problem as a result of FMF by that point. ;)

Alpha slim MA-1
Very warm. High quality. Only complaint is the zipper chafes at my neck, otherwise like it.
I'm tempted to get a field jacket in olive for warm-ish climates. I've found some cotton ones, but I can't decide yet.

My main gripe that the color looks a bit washed out for both. I'd prefer a deeper hue.
