I disassembled my TI 84+ Silver edition, and found a single PCB supported by a gratuitous amount of plastic. If you put one of these on it, I imagine it wouldn't get much better for durability.

This cable should work. I lost mine and bought it as a replacement for my Ti nspire. Since the nspire and the ti-84 plus both use the same cable, you should have no problems.
Edit: the cable you mentioned should also work. The cable that comes with your calculator is nothing special. It's just a normal USB to mini-B cable.

It looks like your device has a combo USB mini A/B port! I've never seen it before. It can perform as a client, or a host.
