It's an inspection mirror, like dentists use for a mouth but for machinery. It lets mechanics and technicians look for problems in awkward places without having to disassemble a bunch of stuff to gain access.
Motorcycle stands will work.. I lived in an apartment, and didn't have a place to store anything really.

It's a simple telescopic mirror.. Let me see mine perfectly while I was sitting on my Vulcan 900 to balance it.
You could try one of those little mirror sticks they make for looking into more hard to reach places on cars. Something like this.
I'm not sure how big the mag insertion hole is, but a dental mirror might be nice for inspecting the other seam and is only $5 or so.
