I actually do pallet woodworking, at my local town municipal dump someone throws regularly oak pallets away which I made into standing raised garden beds and stuff. It would be hard to make this out of pallet wood since each board is not exactly flat or milled the same thickness.

If you are into pallet wood stuff though there are two tools that you absolutely need.

https://www.amazon.com/Vestil-SKB-DLX-Deluxe-Pallet-Buster/dp/B00JH41U7M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1480654438&sr=8-2&keywords=pallet+buster

https://www.amazon.com/Air-locker-professional-Nailer-Remover/dp/B003X2QM3G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480654464&sr=8-1&keywords=nail+gun+remover

The pallet buster pulls the boards off the wood with the nails and the nail gun hits it out. It makes it a lot quicker and keeps the boards intact versus sawzall or crowbar.

This is usually caused by a few issues:

  • Using wire collated nails (the wire doesn't break off correctly)
  • Misaligned tip
  • Using full-head nails when the gun is designed for clipped
  • Making contact with another metal object in the nailing object

If I had to guess, you have a bad tip on the gun. You should return it. Banks guns are pretty overpriced for what they are - rebadged WEN tools.

What about the Hitachi NR90GR framing nailer? It's quite awesome.

Nice. Will do. The Numax version is on Amazon right now for $82. Also sourced from Prime Global Products and it looks like it could be 90% the same gun, too.

In my area and everywhere I have worked hitachi framing nailers are the industry standard. I am a union wood framing carpenter. They make two main framing guns, this model is not as bulletproof as the nr83 line. They do have issues with the piston driver cracking when used day in day out. However they are just about the lightest and cheapest framing gun on the market. All while being incredibly reliable and better than the competition. This is just about the cheapest price they've ever been on amazon.

A lot of this can be done with just a few hand tools. Most other tools are about convenience, speed and precision. A chop saw lets you bust out perfect cuts faster than you can load wood. The only time you really need fancy tools is for stuff like mitering, when the extra precision is non-negotiable. That stuff is for making your own doors, furniture and cabinets though- if you're just working with modern lumber you don't need more than a hammer and a $40 saw (plus twine and a measuring tape).

In the old days before plywood you actually needed more tools- planes, chisels etc to account for the fact that wood is never perfect. Nowadays? Joists go in hangers, walls go up, plywood goes over and siding and insulation go on each side. In fact they even have electric nailguns now, and you don't even need a compressor! Not that it won't still cost a pretty penny.

Some modern ones use fuel and a tiny engine to supply the thrust charge. http://www.amazon.com/Paslode-900420-Cordless-Framing-Nailer/dp/B0000225HU

Yes, I prefer the bostitch. Full round head nails, good solid gun that isn't too heavy, and ability to shoot metal connectors.

Turns out they are clearing out Bosch tools, but only the pneumatics. Basically everything they stock is on sale at 35-50% off what Amazon is asking. The framing nailer, for example, is $200 at Amazon and $129 at Menards. Grab 'em while you can.

https://www.amazon.com/NuMax-SFR2190-Degree-Framing-Nailer/dp/B0032JTDPO is my reocmmendation.

When I was looking to get one for finishing my basement, this one was highly recommended in a few places and apparently is made in the same factory from a more recognized brand. edit: the gun is actually made by freeman

You really can't beat the price, and I've had no issues with it. It feels solid and I don't notice any difference in performance with this vs. my dad's $250 dewalt nailer.

One quirk though, and this may be with all nailguns, you will have 3 or so nails left in a clip and it won't fire. You don't have to remove the old one, just slap a new one in behind it and you're good to go.

My father, whose opinion I respect when it comes to tools, bought a Hitachi framing nail gun for his fence project and some other tasks. It worked very well for him. It's pricey but it will last a long time.

Do you think you will do any other tasks or is this a one-time use? Maybe some tool rental places will be a better option for a one-time project. Or perhaps check CL for used tools, as pneumatic tools tend to last a long time.

> Unfired ones, like the one with the red circle, are brought to the police. You're not allowed to have them in Europe without a proper license (which is hard to get).

I find this a wee bit retarded. You can't have a single live round of ammunition, that you found in the dirt, but you can buy this on Amazon and nobody bats an eye.

I have about 20 things within arms' reach that are far more [potentially] deadly than a loose round.

Where is the logic here?

u/Trusty_Craftsman · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

As a fellow shed builder I just bought a dewalt 30 degree cordless framing nail gun. 300 bucks on Amazon.

Yes it is expensive yes it is worth it. It is so much nicer to have the portability with a LION pack vs being tied to a noisy compressor. plus the angle is perfect for toe nailing. I run a lot of dewalt LION stuff so this is tool only. The kits with batteries and chargers are more.

set the lumber off the ground on some cripple studs and then tarp to keep moisture off to minimize warping.

If any of your lumber is pressure treated you need hot dip galvanized nails.

Get a Small and large Swanson speed square, and learn how to use it. It's a huge time saver.

Chino's idea is solid. Spend as much time as you need finessing everything from the start vs. trying to get it plumb/ square later.

If you don't mind spending a bit more... go for battery power.

https://www.amazon.com/Paslode-905600-Cordless-Framing-Nailer/dp/B017M0N6K6

https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCN692B-Brushless-Speed-Nailer/dp/B00JJ3RORQ/

So much more convenient. Get the DeWalt and you can use the same batteries as their 20V and 60V line.

EDIT - Sorry I gave you framing nailers because I thought that's what you wanted from the first link. I would still go battery for finish nailers. I have about 15-20 Ryobi 18V tools including the finish nailer and I love it.
