I'd go with "less is more". The beauty of simplicity. This one. No frills, no nothing. My kid still plays with it (to transport stuff) and he's 4. My advice would be to stay away from a plastic monstrosity on singing wheels, that has 500 buttons and colours and music and ... Especially if it's labelled "educational".

My daughter was very much the same at four months, so we made the switch to a convertible car seat about that time. It was a game changer! I think the click-in bucket infant seat must have been dreadfully uncomfortable because after switch to the convertible, she cried much less.
We let her hold some toys in her lap. This one is her favorite, and we keep it special for the car. If possible, either myself or my husband will ride in the back with her to keep her company and that helps too. Having books to read to her helps pass the time as well.
