We have a similar issue at my house! My hair used to be gorgeous and this stupid well water destroyed it! I got “brita for the shower” that’s what I call it! It’s literally what it sounds like! It’s a filter for your water so all the crap that’s in your water goes through a filter and only clean water comes out! It’s about $50 for the head and $30 to replace the filter every 6 months! It’s been a big improvement! If money is an issue, I would suggest this! If it’s not, definitely get a water softener! It’ll be better long term!

My mom outside of Philly installed this one for her shower head. It definitely makes a difference, but the water is still pretty hard.

I believe that there are maps that show hard/soft water differences. It can vary from town to town as well.

Thanks! Some of my reasons:

  • I don't enjoy showering nor taking the time to shower
  • the most important reason for showering, in my opinion, is removing smelly body odor, which I have extremely little of thanks to this diet
  • I heard that showering (especially with soap) can hamper vitamin D absorption from the sun
  • tap water in my area (and vastly through the United States) has unnatural added fluoride and chlorine, which is not good for skin, nor the body's beneficial bacteria
  • 10 minute shower could be equivalent to drinking 2 liters of tap water ( https://chriskresser.com/is-your-daily-shower-making-you-sick/ )
  • showering makes my beard look frizzy, even if I avoid washing it or directly rinsing it

Now that I think of it, let me paste a response I typed two months ago via private message:

I read that skin is our largest organ and quite permeable -- and that we can absorbs chemicals from a shower equivalent to drinking one or more liters of tap water. I researched if people actually reacted to fluoride or chlorine from showers and found a couple examples (usually skin related). I looked up water quality reports for multiple cities around Dallas, and found fluoride & chlorine was a bit high in my area. Read a book about acne and how the author discovered it was caused by excess fluoride. Read that showering might decrease vitamin D3 synthesis from sunlight (seriously not sure about this one). I saw one or two carnivore Youtubers talking about showering less and not having body order (one of them is Asra Conlu).

I was doing everything in my power to reduce potentially toxic exposures. Based on the above, I figured the less showers, the better (and the shorter the better).

No, I never heard Paleomedicina make any recommendations regarding showering.

Totally not difficult at all to adjust to showering less. I never enjoyed showering that much; always just did it out of habit / necessity. There is much more freedom now. If I have a social event on the calendar, it's comforting to know that I can shower if I want, or I can totally be fine without showering. My body odor on the carnivore diet is drastically reduced. After ~5 days I can smell body order if I directly smell my armpits, bit it never smells bad. Sometimes it smells kind of good. Often it has a 'barnyard' smell -- kind of similar to some of the raw cream I've been eating.

Here is the shower filter I'm using. I don't notice any difference using it, but I didn't expect to, considering how often I shower. https://www.amazon.com/Inline-Filter-Shower-Assembly-Sonaki/dp/B06XZKJ9CF

I also posted the below reply on r/rawzerocarb. Oh, and my sister started raving a couple days ago about how much whiter my teeth were looking. I can't believe the results I'm getting by doing the exact opposite of what everyone recommends, LOL!!!

" I'm only about 25% raw right now, but eat pretty clean carnivore with a 3:1 fat:protein ratio. Decided to go a month without any brushing or flossing as an experiment. I'm now at the end of month two. No bad breath (I can't smell any odor nor does anyone else)! No tooth problems! I am going to find a holistic dentist eventually though and get checked out (and maybe remove a root canal). I'm absolutely loving not brushing & flossing and probably won't go back to it unless it's proven necessary.

I noticed maybe a small 50% increase in plaque / teeth 'roughness' after a week or two but it stabilized and didn't get worse. Then a friend told me about a book she read (Vitamin K2 and the Calcium Paradox) and when she supplements with K2+D3 all her plaque comes off. This coincides with the book Cure Tooth Decay as well as Weston A Price's findings. I bought a bunch of Brie and Gouda two days ago for Vitamin K2. It's a bit early to say for sure, but my teeth are feeling pretty smooth right now.

Also completely removed deodorant. Reduced showers to ~2x per week even though I sweat a lot (including 3 hour long workouts + daily sunbathing in Texas sun). I keep showering less and less often, but I just don't smell bad nor does anyone notice. I've basically eliminated my entire morning / evening hygiene routine saving me hours per week! Love it! "

I have one of these. Had it for a week and seems to be doing its job.

You can buy a pelican water filter with vitamin c water filter attached. It's somewhat portable but it takes like 1 minute to attach.

UBS Vita Fresh Shower Filter, 16 Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KEAMG0S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_haOvyb94MN80W

Pelican Water PSF-1W 3 Stage Premium Shower Filter with 5' Wand Combo, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AIOY810/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_LaOvybVM9NERB

They are two separate water filters, one is designated to filter the water from shìt and chlorine, the second, vitamin c is designed to filter the water from the remained chloramines, which are very hard to filter with charcoal filters. And they can be attached to each other.

I'm eyeing this thing right now on amazon.ca. I had no idea there could be a solution for hard water for those who rent. Thank you /u/Sejura

I think it's UBS Vita Fresh Vita Gel Shower Filter with 4 Vitamin C Gel Cartridge
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I4RP7KS/

And the replacement is POSSIBLY UBS Vitamin C Cartridge 5 Pc in 1 Pack for Vita-fresh Shower Filter, 8.82 Ounce
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016I7KQDO/

I wrote possibly is because there are different models, like Vita Fresh or Vita Fresh Gel (Vita-Gel). From my very little research, I got the gel one because it is longer, said to last longer and said to diffuse better. All marketing claims.

I can't attest to them though. I'd say my skin doesn't feel as pulled anymore but that could just be placebo.

This one.

Might just be a psychological thing because the light is purple and not white, and I don't know how long it should take before I see any changes but so far I'm not.

Heya! So oddly enough, I was leaning toward getting a MBD mask. It seems to be one of the go to brands here, so I'll add it to my wish list. I'll likely just get the hydrating formula and go from there. As you said, I doubt that I'll be using it more than once every couple weeks. I'm also caving and leaning toward buying the Benton snail bee essence. It may be a while until I add it to the rotation, but I'm eager to give it a shot. My only experience with snail products was a Mizon snail gel and at the time, I was convinced that it broke me out. So with that, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the Benton works for me.

So I received the Thayer's toner, the Hada Labo, as well as the Innasfree gel cleanser. The Thayer's toner seems to sting for a quick second after application. It's alcohol free and to the best of my knowledge, it doesn't have any ingredients that should be doing this. There doesn't seem to be any lasting irritation being caused, so I'll have to keep my eye on it. While it may sting for a second, it does feel nice immediately after. As for the Hada Labo, I love it! A little seems to go a long way and their is a noticeable difference thus far. Why my usual gel moisturizer (Dr. Lin) does include Hyaluronic acid, nothing has locked in the moisture quite like this. So far it's as good as everyone says and I couldn't be more thankful. Now I tried the Innasfree cleanser for the first time last night and there's not much to report. The scent is a bit different, but who cares about that if it works. It also doesn't lather like my last 2nd cleanser, so that's going to take a bit to get used to. Other than that, things seem to be good and I can't wait to receive the rest of my shipments.

You mentioned that the Biore has a high alcohol percentage and that blew me away. I was so conscious about avoiding products with that issue and that's even more true when it comes to products applied to my face. In fact, I remember that being the reason as to why I bought the Elta md in the first place. So I'm leaning towards switching back to Elta permanently. I don't know about you, but sunscreens can be such a struggle. Finding one with the appropriate protection is a big deal, then you need one that works with your skin, then you have to find one that doesn't make you're face look greasy and shiny all day... ug... I know that's it's a staple when it comes to good skin and anti aging, but it's a step that I dread.

You've been such a great help! So if there's one thing that I can suggest, it would be to buy a humidifier for your bedroom. For me, it has been a huge help. My skin feels softer, heals faster, and my hair looks better than ever. I live in the Northeast/US, so the winters are dry and the summers are humid. While you may live in a mellow climate, your house will likely be using heat or A/C during the needed months. This can unknowingly put strain on your skin. So upon recommendation, I bought a humidifier. While it's not a cure-all, I have noticed a difference. This is what I have ( https://www.amazon.com/Humidifier-TaoTronics-Ultrasonic-Humidifiers-Protection/dp/B01GYMVKOM/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485691053&sr=8-3&keywords=taotronics+humidifier+filter ) You may want to try a basic one at first. For me, this one has been great as it has an automatic setting that allows it to disperse moisture and read the room to give you an optimal environment. It also has a warm water feature that disperses heated water. While I didn't expect this to be the case, it actually helps heat up the room and therefore you end up cutting down on the heating bill during those PM hours. While i'm at it, I'd also suggest a water softener for your shower. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017QIT964/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Speaking for myself, these products have been a great addition to my routine. I already dish out far too much money on skincare products, so for me, this seems like a smarter investment that has lasting value. So since I can't offer too much advice that you're not already familiar with, this would be my recommendation to you... Not that you asked haha Alright! Thanks once again!

This filter is a pretty good option. I've had mine for a year with no problems, so I think they've fixed the problems some people noted in the reviews from a couple years ago.

If you wanna go above and beyond buy the Aroma Sense! Honestly the best shower head. Kinda spendy tho:(

If you can drop the money on it, I suggest the Berkey shower filter head. Its $45 on Amazon but I highly recommend it. I bought it for my old place where the water was a nasty ruddy brown color. Not only did it clear up the water, it even improved the pressure a little.

This is the one I have. My hair has been a lot softer and it also helped my itchy skin! :)

Posted at the end is the data on the life-threating serious rash that can occur with this AED. It can be serious and if she's hypersensitive she might need to try a different medication.

It stands to reason the Lamictal and the itchiness are related. I have heard that some people are allergic to some of the ingredients in the generic medication but not in the brand name or visa versa.

We found using a chorine filter on the shower was helpful. Look Here You can buy at Lowes / Home Depot today! I would add that Yolo uses this Calming Cream religiously after her shower. Itchy skin can drive a person crazy and I hope you get to the bottom of it. If her doctors aren't listening make them or find someone who does...

Oral route (Tablet; Tablet, Chewable; Tablet, Disintegrating; Tablet, Extended Release)

Cases of life-threatening serious rashes, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, or rash-related death have been caused by lamotrigine. The rate of serious rash is greater in pediatric patients than in adults. Additional factors that may increase the risk of rash include: (1) coadministration with valproate; (2) exceeding recommended initial dose of lamotrigine, or (3) exceeding recommended dose escalation for lamotrigine. Benign rashes are also caused by lamotrigine; however, it is not possible to predict which rashes will prove to be serious or life-threatening. Lamotrigine should be discontinued at the first sign of rash unless the rash is clearly not drug-related.

Dermatologic
In adult patients (n=3348), serious rash associated with hospitalization and discontinuation was reported in 0.3% of patients in premarketing epilepsy trials. In bipolar trials, serious rash occurred in 0.08% of patients receiving this drug as initial monotherapy and 0.13% of patients receiving this drug as adjunctive therapy. In worldwide postmarketing experience, rash-related death has been reported, but the numbers are too few to permit a precise estimate of the rate.

In a prospectively followed cohort of pediatric patients 2 to 17 years old, the incidence of serious rash was approximately 0.3% to 0.8%. In a prospectively followed cohort of patients 2 to 16 years old (n=1983), 1 rash-related death occurred in a patient with epilepsy taking this drug as adjunctive therapy.

Evidence has shown the inclusion of valproate in a multidrug regimen increases the risk of serious, potentially life-threatening rash in both adult and pediatric patients. In pediatric patients who used valproate concomitantly for epilepsy, 1.2% (6 of 482) experienced a serious rash (placebo=0.6%). In adults, 1% of patients receiving this drug in combination with valproate (n=584) experienced a rash (placebo=0.16%).[Ref]

Very common (10% or more): Rash (14%)

Common (1% to 10%): Contact dermatitis, dry skin, sweating, eczema, pruritus

Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Acne, alopecia, hirsutism, maculopapular rash, skin discoloration, urticaria, ecchymosis, leukopenia

I believe this is the one we have, but really any of them with a decent review would be good. If you’re spending less than $10 or more than $50, you’re getting the wrong product.
