You can get a pretty amazing detachable shower head for $25. This is the one I got on Amazon. It's totally worth spending $25 to up your shower experience and make sure you pressure wash your butthole. I like the occasional rimjob and I will reciprocate, but I want to make sure that butthole is clean. This gets the job done.

I got an AquaBliss shower filter off of Amazon. It’s like $34 and really helped fix my hair. You can find my pre-filter hair after my move to Colorado in my post history.

I sleep with a humidifier too! I don’t know if that makes a difference, though!

Buy three of these, two of these, and something like this. Completely changes the shower.

You are gorgeous girl! Keep your head up, you can get through this. Dry shampoo can help spruce up your hair besides washing it. I also suffer from eczema. Besides using over the counter hydrocortisone (steroid cream) for breakouts, here's a few things I've done that help me:

Only wash your clothes with scent free detergent. I currently use Arm & Hammer Sensitive skin free and clear. For fabric softener in the wash I use white vinegar. (It does not make your clothes smell and for bonus points it helps clean your washing machine)

For showers, invest in a shower filter. I know it sounds high maintenance but it helps filter out the chlorine in tap water. This results in healthier skin and hair. They sell some that attach to your current showerhead and some that replace your shower head.
Also scent free soaps. Aveeno or dove original works for me.

Edit 2: And lots of moisturizers! Such as Lubriderm, Curel or Cetaphil. Rub it 2-3 times a day head to toe. Once your eczema starts getting better, use it after you shower. As much needed.

The EPA allows chlorine levels up to 4ppm (parts per million) in tap water. However, a normal swimming pool is at around this level. Most water is much lower. As a gas, chlorine becomes detectable at around 3ppm. At 30ppm, people start to cough and possibly vomit. At 60ppm lung damage happens. So unless your mother feels very ill after each shower, there's not a problem.

Even if your family are concerned, you can buy filtering faucets and shower heads for a fraction of the cost asked by this man. They cost around $25 for a shower head and about the same for a filter for a faucet. $10,000 is scam territory.

Sorry about that! Here are some details.
I am a DIYer with no formal training. I just read a lot of stuff online (don't we all?). It took me 7 full days from start to absolute completion, 2 more days that I was expecting, but not bad overall. Total cost was around $2500. Luckily I have another full bath in the house.

I used an electric floor heating pad under the area that will be walked on, Although I have yet to experience a winter with it, I know how nice heated tile feels, it was worth the cost, about $250 just for that. Per the instructions, after you put the electric grid down, you are supposed to seal it down with mortar. I made my own, but if I were to do it again, I would have used the "pre-mixed" stuff from HD/Lowes so I did not have to worry about consistency/mixing it myself.

I used mortar as a base under the tub, although it was not required for that tub, I can NOT stand a squeeky tub, I am very glad I did this, I know I will never have to worry about it squeeking.

The biggest issue I ran into was tiling the shower, you don't realize how much square footage it really is. It was very tedious and it didn't help that I did not have a good tile saw, I'd recommend renting a good one so you don't drive yourself crazy as I almost did! It took me two full days to tile the shower.

I built an inverted shelf into the wall. This idea came after looking at pictures of a lot of tile showers online, this is how I got some of my inspiration. Just remember to put a slight incline into the base of the shelf so that water does not collect. I used Hardie-Backer for the walls (1/2in) and on the floor (1/4in).

If you need to drill holes into the tile (as I did to install the shower door), spend the money and get a good diamond bit, at my lowes, this good tile bit was not located with the tiling supplies (a cheap "kobalt" one was) it was located with all the other tools, the one I finally purchased that worked was from Hitachi and was something like $20 for one bit. I also used a dremel with a diamond cutting wheel to cut the holes for the shower plumbing, it took some time but was the easiest way I could think to do it.

One lesson I learned was to buy more than what you think you need, tile, adhesive, other supplies etc. Virtually everything can be returned for a full refund and it saves you an extra trip.

My family had a $20 limit for years. About 15 years ago, my mom got me a used VCR out of the thrift store - left the $17.99 sticker on it so the whole family could see she stayed under the 20 buck limit. That was a huge surprise. It was a luxury I couldn't have afforded on my own (they were selling for $200 back then) and it's still running fine today.

So I guess it depends on your recipient. but maybe you can make that $20 go toward something both long-lasting, and something your giftee really wants. Luxury items are affordable if the stars align.

On a side note, what do you think of shower filters like these? They are apparently so much easier on your skin if you have a lot of chlorine in your water as well. It can reduce the free-radical damage on your skin caused by chlorine.

Number one power user in your house would be the electric hot water tank. Can’t say I ever heard of those being used in Alberta. So it is probably your hot water use.

Also: have you been using a block heater at all? Those are energy hogs. If you need it, you could set it to only run for 3 or 4 hours before you need to drive early in the morning with a timer, and to only come on when it is extra cold with a thermostat.

Speakman. Used it in a hotel, immediately looked up where to get one. I grew up in an older house with an absolute firehose of a showerhead - probably something like 10 GPM. Every single showerhead I'd used since was a low-flo, eco-friendly, builder's special and compared to the shower I grew up with, felt like I was being dribbled on by a pack of incontinent lap dogs. I'd shower for ages and never feel clean.

The trick is to remove the two layers of low-flow restrictors in the head. Originally I removed one and it was okay, but once I got the second one out of there, it was just amazing pressure.

I'm going to go for overkill on this. Also this is using mostly natural stuff save for the facial lotion.

First - In the shower hopefully you have a strong stream that will strip the oil off of your face (Use warm water, but not hot). Keep in mind this is a terrible idea unless you follow step three. That oil is there to protect your face and keep your skin healthy. Please do not use soap on your face, just blast the water into it until it feels not oily at all. If your shower head is too weak then get a better one or get an Oil-Free acne wash. DO THIS EVERY SHOWER! - Always follow with step three.

Second, mild facial peel once or twice a week - Skip ahead or cringe through until you get to the part that matters. Might irritate a little the first two or so times, but this shit is magical. This will remove lots of older skin. I did this until things got relatively clear; now with Steps 1&3 I once in awhile throw in some St. Ives apricot scrub.

Step Three - Put some damn face lotion on your damn face. FACE LOTION; not any old damn lotion. I have had good results from Up&Up which I think is Target brand, maybe not. Also Jergens "Natural Glow" FACIAL LOTION has been good to me during the months that have no sun. After step three you have an incredibly clean protective layer of oil/lipids on your face. Both of these have an SPF; I suggest some SPF.

So what is going on here? Let me explain some theory, long winded style, because I think you will appreciate understanding what is going on here.

Alright; so I'm sure you know the general reason for blackhead formation. Shit gets clogged up in your pores (dirt, skin cells, etc) and this basically turns the oil in your pore solid; (Hold on I got an awesome metaphor coming up) once clogged your pore tries to push out more oil and then you get a problem.

Here's the metaphor.

Alright you have some water, throw some dirt in there.........you got mud. Throw some more dirt in there, well now you just have some damp dirt. Add more water you got mud, add more water and you wash away all the dirt. Oil and water are like enemies, they don't want to mix, but they react with everything else just about the same. So basically, you have some oil. Throw dirt in there, eventually it turns solid (blackhead), throw oil (lotion) on there before it turns solid and it'll stay clean. This is the basis for The oil cleansing method. The first time I tried this I was so damn amazed.

So, in the shower you wash as much dirt and oil away as possible, this also gets rid of bacteria and other stuff that sticks to your face throughout the day. Then when you do step two you remove future cloggers and bring fresh skin to the surface. Step three you rehydrate your face and give it a healthy amount of oil. This oil keeps your face from trying to shove out more oil from your pores in a natural attempt to rehydrate.

This really improved my face. Also a showerhead with a filter can also work wonders on skin in general. This is because often times shower/tap water has chlorine and other skin dehydrators/irritants in it. It'll also make your hair much softer to get rid of the chlorine. Also I don't use shampoo and my hair freaking rocks as opposed to the days I did use shampoo.

As far as nose blackheads. Many people's nose pores are fairly large. So they will hold a lot of oil in them. These aren't necessarily blackheads. The test would be to squeeze them out. If they worm out without a dark tip then they are not blackheads. Also a lot of guys don't know about blackhead removers (the things with a loop on both ends, the other end is for whiteheads. I freaking loved mine before I hardly ever had to break it out.

I use this filter and replace the cartridge every 6 months. Makes a noticeable difference the water hardness.

One thing to consider if you are a gardener: I believe the cartridge uses salt to soften the water and that salt can be harmful to plants in the long term. So basically don't use these shower filters to soften water for the garden!

Now all you need is a manly shower head and you'll have the best shower of your life.

Most liquid soap uses sodium lauryl sulfate "SLS" which doesn't react the same way.

Get a water softener. They even make ones that screw onto the showerhead, so perfect for renters. You just have to refill them more often.

You have the (enviable) problem of having high water pressure.

You have two options. Option one was suggested by RallyMech, that is to get a flow adjustment knob and install it before your shower head

Option two is to get a different shower head. I would encourage you to give this one a try. The center part is a higher pressure spray with smaller diameter holes, while the outside nozzles are higher diameter for a gentle rainfall. It comes with a flow restrictor installed, if you have high pressure leave it in but you can remove it if you want more flow.

I have one of these and I love it- the high pressure nozzle is good for rinsing shampoo out of hair, the low pressure mode is very relaxing and non-abrasive.

The one complaint I've seen from people is that it can decrease your water pressure - I personally only have a very small decrease when the filter is getting old (3 months or so), but we have strong pressure to begin with.

Definitely look into the local energy audit if it is offered. We learned a lot!

For saving water, I love the Evolve ladybug adapter for the showerhead. It shuts off the water when it's warm and you restart it when you're ready.

My shower head needs replaced and I think this would work nicely. Plus I could shower in the dark this way. I'm weird like that.

First, I'd recommend checking out r/SebDerm, there's a lot of great info there.

The exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis isn't yet known, so treating it is complicated. It may be the cause of a fungal infection or it may be genetic. You may want to consider seeing a dermatologist to help determine what is causing yours and the best treatment.

The two shampoos usually recommended are Head & Shoulders (like you're looking into) and Nizoral A-D. They each have different active ingredients; Head & Shoulders uses pyrithione zinc, while Nizoral A-D uses ketoconazole. Neither is inherently better, just be aware that you may have to try both to figure out what your skin needs.

How is your water at home? If you have hard water, that may be irritating your scalp as well. I went over this in an archived thread a while ago:

Installing an entire water softener is often pricey, but there are decent filters that install in-line for your shower head that you can get for under $50.

There are also a number of home remedies that are recommended by users, but often have less research. It may be worth looking into as some people have success with these.

Anecdotally, a shower head filter was the best for me when I dealt with scalp irritation, this is the one I purchased. I can't say for sure that it was seborrheic dermatitis as I never went to a dermatologist, but the symptoms were very similar. Additionally, I use apple cider vinegar as a scalp treatment a couple times per week to give it a good cleanse. I dilute some and put it into a spray bottle, spray my scalp, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before showering. Sometimes I'll soak in a tub with some apple cider vinegar and that makes the skin on my body feel a bit exfoliated (ACV is acidic) and clears up any breakouts. u/PoopDoopTrixie wrote up an entertaining and informative review about apple cider vinegar baths.

Seborrheic dermatitis is often a long term problem, there isn't always a "cure". Similar to people who have sensitive skin or are acne prone, it's more about figuring out a routine that works for you. Hopefully this information is helpful, the best of luck to you!

If you think it might be your water, you can go here and request a hard water test strip. Many people in /r/skincareaddiction find that an in-shower filter really helps their skin and hair, like this one.

But the ingredients in your shampoo and conditioner look no bueno to me. In your shampoo there's a few silicones (which are probably causing build up) and some other questionable stuff. Casual internet browsing shows that the 1st ingredient in your conditioner is water, and the 2nd is behentrimonium chloride, which according to wikipedia is "is an irritating, toxic (to aquatic organisms), and slightly flammable yellow waxlike organic compound." I'm sure its not that bad (I'm not being sarcastic! It's probably not that bad), but there has to be better ingredients out there. Not to mention more dimethicone (6th ingredient), while the argon oil is #10, right after parfum. Awesome. So I'd switch that one out, too.

The silicones in both are probably building up in your hair making it what it is. Not all silicones are bad, but they need to be washed away now and again. I'd look in the side bar and what not to find a nice clarifying shampoo to wash out the build up, and get a good regular shampoo and conditioner.

We have a detachable shower hose thingie! It was only about $20 on amazon (but make sure to buy some plumbers' tape too so you don't get leaks right where it screws on).

Super easy to install! Unscrew old shower head, wrap plumber tape around the threads a bunch of times. Screw new shower head on. Turn on water to check for leaks. If it leaks, then turn it off and unscrew and put more plumber tape on. Once it doesn't leak anymore, you're done!

Then you can just grab the shower head off the hook and rinse your lady bits nice and clean!

Edit: this one. It's $25 now. It can do both shower heads at once, but we usually keep it set to the upper hose one only to keep the water pressure higher. You'll have much lower water pressure if you use both heads at the same time.

if you do get a hand held thing, or these are really good too, id also recommend replacing whatever this pipe is called with a regular straight pipe, maybe 3-5 inches long, with "male" threads on both ends.

and i wouldnt bother replacing it with chrome, you hardly see it. i just got black iron. it'll cost about a dollar. get some plumbers tape too. that'll be like 50 cents. the pipe will look sorta like this when youre done

My favorite method is to get a shower shot. This is the one I have and I love it, but it’s VERY easy to cause a bigger problem with a shower shot than you had to begin with (explanation below.) I bought my shower shot along with this shower head which I can discreetly unscrew the handheld shower head and screw in my shower shot when I need to use it and none of my roommates have a clue that I just rinsed out my butthole. It also allows me to control the water pressure on the shower head.

The better method to start with would is to go to the pharmacy and get some Fleet Enemas. Enemas or a Bulb Douche are the preferred beginning option because it’s easier to control how much water you’re using.

So, as a few other people have mentioned douching isn’t always necessary. If you have enough insoluble fiber in your diet, your body will clean about 95% of the debris out on its own. Insoluble Fiber helps to add bulk to your stool and hold it all together so when you go to the bathroom, there aren’t any little pieces left behind up there. Do not mistake that with soluble fiber which draws more water into your colon. I still prefer to give it a quick swish just for peace of mind, confidence, and comfort.

When you douche as far as water is concerned, less is more. You ONLY want to rinse out your rectum. This is why Fleet Enemas are good because they’re designed to hold the right amount of fluid. You DO NOT want to use too much water as it can over-fill your rectum and spill into your colon. If that happens, you can douche until the water runs clear, and then 10 minutes later a brown slurry begins dropping into your once clean rectum and... it’s NOT GOOD! If possible, you want to douche, and later have sex, after you have a good solid bowel movement. So go bop bop, shower and douche multiple times with a few ounces of saline/water until the water you push out runs clear a few times. Then soap and shower as normal.

Do NOT have sex immediately after douching. Despite your best efforts, chances are there is still some leftover water/saline in your rectum which you want to give 30 minutes or so for your body to reabsorb what’s left behind or you might spring a leak!

Now, douching is great in my opinion BUT you do not want to douche all the time. Douching strips healthy mucuses out of your rectum which potentially could increase your risks of contracting STDs. Your rectum is also home to a whole biological ecosystem which is part of a healthy immune and digestive system. The general consensus from doctors that I’ve read is that if you’re JUST rinsing out a small section of your lower GI like your rectum, it’s probably not not much of a concern but why upset your gut biome at all if you don’t have to. Douching is great! But don’t over do it.

As long as you can detach the shower head from the spigot it should work! I have this filter and i attached a custom shower head to the end of it.

I'm thinking about trying an in-line shower water filter. Kind of like how you can buy custom showerheads, some of them come with filters. I have similar issues and after switching up my shampoos/cleansers and treatments I'm beginning to suspect the water more and more.

Sounds like an allergy to something you’re using in the shower or the water itself. Are you on well water? Or could be hard city water. Edit: DevaCurl also just came out with a clarifying shampoo based on miclear water. It's really easy on the hair. That should help you wash away the hard water build up.

Sorry for replying to an older thread, lol. I wanted to offer a couple suggestions.

1. Distilled water is much cheaper than micellar water and is available basically everywhere. It doesn't have the cleansing ability of micellar water, but it's a good option for rinsing. I'd recommend trying this for your hair. Depending on how long your hair is, 1 gallon should be enough to wet your hair and rinse afterwards. Another option would be RO/DI water. Both options are free of chlorine, floride, and trace minerals.* Some places you can even refill your water bottles so you're not wasting a ton of plastic (I think WalMart does this?).
   
   * Distilled water and RO/DI are not great for drinking all the time, because you do need those trace minerals in your diet. ;) For drinking I suggest a Brita filter or something that will remove the chlorine taste.
   
   
2. A vinegar rinse in your hair will help alleviate hard-water build up in hair (also clarifies / removes any leftover product). I went through a long natural hair-care phase and the only things stuck were ACV rinses and henna like 3 times a year. ACV leaves my hair softer and silkier than any conditioner, without weighing it down or making it greasy. I dilute 1 tbs to 1 cup water (but I have hella hair, so you may not need that much!).
   
   
3. Likewise, if you're washing your hair daily, work on spacing out your washes until you're washing weekly (and if you can, longer!). Unless you use a ton of product, it's better for your hair and scalp. And for me, hair washing is the longest part of the shower routine, so you'll be spending less time in the shower period.
   
   
4. The reason SLS is so common is because it is a better detergent for hard water, whereas actual soap tends to get scummy and leave a film or deposits. So a "beauty bar" like Dove or a body wash with SLS or ALS might be a better option than actual soap bars. Or try using a gentle shampoo as a body wash.
   
   
5. You can get a water softening showerhead filter. Obviously it won't be as good as a heavy-duty whole-house filter system, but it should help and they're pretty easy to install. I actually got one, but can't get our old showerhead off and need to get our landlord to have it installed :P See if your parents are okay with this, especially if you're buying, hah. Here's the one I got and they have a hand-held version.
   
   Also hard water is drying and it's rough on your hair, but I'm not sure hard water would cause that degree of break out. It could be a reaction to chlorine. Or could be something else entirely. I'd check with your Dr next time you have a visit, just to see what they think.

Do you have really hard water? You could also consider a water softener if the filter doesn't do the trick. It'll be a more expensive investment, FYI.

I use this one with a replaceable filter. It’s helped. I was hoping it would clear up the weird itchy scalp thing I have going on, but no luck there. I do have soft healthy hair though!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Yes a million times over. The water in my city is so bad that I used to get out of the shower feeling like I had been in a pool. This is the filter that I ended up getting and it's seriously amazing. I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate this little thing. It has helped my skin feel noticeably softer, my hair feels much cleaner and doesn't get as greasy as quickly as it did before. I have way less dandruff, and I even feel like it has helped my acne as well. I just feel much cleaner.

I honestly would reccomend one of these shower filters to anyone living in a city that has questionable water. The filters only need to be replaced every 6 months, and they're only $10 on amazon. It's a no brainer imo.

If you do end up staying for an extended period of time, I would look into buying one of these filtered shower heads


Otherwise look into buying a Portable Brita Pitcher

The Brita Pitcher will make you 3/4 gallon at a time. If you have some empty milk jugs you can periodically fill them with filtered water for potable use. I don't see why you would need more than 2 or 3 gallons of water to give your hair a full wash!

Haha, probably not! The only ways I've learned to deal with hard water are either water softening systems (which are installed in a whole house's plumbing), getting a filtered showerhead, and/or using a shampoo that will counter-act hard water effects. I'm dealing with the issue myself in that the hard water here is turning my hair super brassy faster than I can keep up with it.

If you're staying in a place long enough to receive packages, I'd definitely get a shower filter and maybe some shampoo to help. If you can't the best thing is to just rinse your hair with filtered water or do an apple cider vinegar rinse to remove build-up from the water. I actually just ordered this filter since it seems to have the best reviews and a lot of them mention it improving their hair. The shampoo I got was Ion's Hard Water Shampoo (Sally Beauty brand) that I'd seen recommended a lot on other sites. I can't really comment on either since they haven't arrived yet, though. Sorry I can't be more help!

You know, for most showers, it is as simple as unscrewing the current shower head and putting a new one on. I mean, it is really simple. You can get a pretty decent one for less than $25 too.

You can get an in-shower water softener that screws-on between your showerhead and the pipe coming out of your wall. The filters last ~6 months. It's fairly DIY item, and shouldn't violate any lease agreements (many people put their own showerheads on showers when they rent).

I've got one of these on it. We get aquifer water here which has a ton of mineral deposits, so it's super hard. It doesn't work quite as well as a full water softening system, but the difference is certainly noticeable.

Looks like iron to me. CLR will probably fix it, but I'm not sure what it's called over there. It's a simple acid that removed minerals. Just soak the whole shower head in it.

Once you get the grout clean, seal it. If you know the exact grout used it will be helpful.

Lastly, you might try getting a shower head filter. Ugly, but works well. Makes your hair wash better as well.

Ideally you want to treat the water itself, but if you don't own the home that's probably not an option, and if you do it's not a quick and easy job, with the exception of a whole house filter that can usually be installed with simple hand tools, assuming it is a push-to-fit system and doesn't require soldering or anything exotic.

Do other parts of the house have this problem? If not, it may be the electric shower disintegrating, possibly because of acidic water.

Do you know what your pipes are made of?

It works really really well, although you do have to look up what kind of chlorine/flouride is in your city water. I think the info is in the reviews for the product but there's a certain kind that some cities use that pretty much no filter can filter out.

Two other good options are just a basic Zinc Pyrithione shampoo (make sure it’s sulfate free) or sulfur soap. I found the Ketoconazole was just too much for my skin, and washing daily with a much milder soap helped a ton!

It’ll take time to heal - mine took almost two months! I also made sure to keep my shower water filtered in case I was getting buildup on my scalp.

I've never tried it, but always been interested after she said it helped her skin and hair, honestly there's so many out there that I haven't shifted through all the reviews to see which seem like the best. It's been on the back burner for me, for a long time, even though I should really look into it.

Get a whole filter if you want, but are your only real issues in teh shower? If so, they make some shower heads that have filters built in. This is super easy to do, but again, just a point of fuse.

As another natural blonde here:

First off, I can 100% assure you that your unwanted hair tone has nothing to do with mental health. As far as a vitamin deficiency, I'm about 90% certain it's not that, especially if you live in a 1st world country and have a fairly varied diet. (Not to discount some people's success with consuming more zinc & biotin, but that's a whole other thread. Those supplements won't help with the color of your hair anyway, just the amount / length.)

Most likely, your green dull hair tones are caused by hard minerals and the chlorine in your shower / bath water. Also, do you swim a lot? Chlorine is a huge known culprit of turning blonde tones green.

What can you do?

First, treat the underlying cause. If you do swim a lot (i.e. a few times per week), wear a swim cap. If that's not the reason, consider buying a shower head water filter attachment such as one of these. Or conversely, if you're in the financial situation to do so, consider a whole-house water softener. A water softener treats all of your house's tap water and as an added bonus, makes it taste a whole lot better too. I used to have one and it made such an amazing night / day difference in the softness of my hair. I didn't need to use very much conditioner at all, could comb it without a detangler, and my hair wasn't frizzy, unlike how it is now. When I move, a water softener is near the top of my priority list.

Next, consider buying a shampoo specially formulated for swimmers, if swimming was the cause. You'll have to trial & error on those, as I can't recommend a good one.

And last but not least, I would recommend trying a purple shampoo, such as this one from Joico. I do personally use this one from Joico, and it does work for me. The inherent violet property of the shampoo neutralizes yellow tones. However, I do not tend to get green tones in my hair, rather I get brassy or harshly yellow tones. I'm sure it has to do with the unique chemical / mineral makeup of my local hard water.

I know it's frustrating, but the problem isn't insurmountable. I hope my post has helped you! :)

I looked back at some of your posts, and I think you're on the right track with products and S2C, etc. Hard water is the WORST, and I saw someone else recommend this, can't vouch for it myself (we have a water softener) but if you can swing this, it should help with hard water

Biotin is a B vitamin and it's good for your hair skin and nails. It makes my nails and hair grow faster and my hair just looks healthier and my curls look better.

As for the filter, I have hard water (means it's full of minerals) and porous hair, so I got myself a showerhead with a charcoal filter from Amazon and I've been much less frizzy since then. There's something in the sidebar about testing the porosity of your hair, if you can't find it just respond here and I'll dig it up for you. Good luck!

I've been doing no poo (just conditioner, and I just use whatever I feel like: herbal essences, head and shoulders... nothing natural) for over a year, and once I got past the greasy phase (I "cheated" by doing it while on a beach vacation), I never had a problem until I moved and we have super hard water. So I bought this filter, but I haven't really tried it yet. I'll let you know how it goes if you're interested.

Needs a filter change every 6 months, other than that it's no different from any other showerhead.

It's filtered too. Just take out the restrictor inside and the pressure should be pretty strong. For me, the water pressure actually hurts a bit in the beginning. Once you feel the pressure is getting weaker, just change the filter.

Does it take a long time to get hot water to your shower then you waste it? I bought one of these valves, when the water gets hot it almost stops the flow till you pull the rope. So you know when the shower water is hot. It's not good for kids cause the water may be too hot. So just be an adult about it, we tend to know where to turn the shower lever too.

I listen to music in the shower usually. It helps my phobia of being alone. I also use a shower chair because I'm disabled and take ten breaths between everything or else I'll be out of breath for 30 mins after. Showering is a big pain in my ass. I don't do it every day anymore.

I don't really have a shower ritual, I don't sing. I do workout, but usually have other stuff to do right after, like pick up my little brother, get groceries, so I shower after that. I have a towel in my car just to put on my seat so it doesn't start to smell of sweat. Whenever I have up.
Funniest thing was prolly when I decided to try to find a way to smoke a cigar while taking a shower. What I did was take some electrical tape and take a plastic baggie to near where the band is, I then cut the back part of the baggie so it was open and the cigar could get through, this was taped to a cling wrapped kitchen roll tube which was attached to a toilet paper tube that was facing upwards, like the bowl of a pipe, and I have to run a metal rod underneath it all so that it didn't break. It worked, I had to take a 45 minute shower to finish it, but it worked.

Double the shower head, double the fun (now with lights for when you don't want anyone else to know you're in the shower).
I try to shower every morning, usually after exercising...I have slipped more often than I care to admit. Luckily no serious injuries sustained thus far!

I don't know if you're into to make up at all, but I found out about this super awesome Etsy shop the other day on /r/makeupaddiction - anothersoul. Basically you can rip out all your powders/eyeshadows, throw out the packaging and put them all in one container like this. PREACH. Bought this one a couple years ago, and it's amazing. It's one of the only shower heads I've used that actually works for my height (6'3") too!

I applaud your desire, but 221 parts per million of total dissolved solids is actually pretty good. The World Health Organization says that water with a TDS (total dissolved solids) of 1,000 PPM is “acceptable” and under 600 PPM is “good.”

You can do all that you've researched. I have no idea how long you will get out of those filters. Gallons per year is going to determine their longevity; but I wouldn't be surprised if this costs several hundred dollars a year to maintain.

You'd be better off (read as cheaper) to install an R.O. system for drinking, but leave the rest of the house (dishwasher, clothes washer, and toilets) on city water. If you want a nice shower, look at the cartridges:

Recently did the same thing. I haven't quite got it figured out but it's getting better.

After I co-wash i do a ACV rinse then condition again. I also wash my hair with ION shampoo from sally's every other week. By far the most improvement I saw was when I bought a filter for my shower.

Super easy to install, just unscrew your shower head screw this on and then attach your shower head back on. No tools needed! It doesn't filter all the minerals out. They have ones that do but they are expensive and require a bit more work. This did help immensely though.

Like i said, my hair is nowhere near what it was when I moved to Florida 2 months ago but it a hell of a lot better than it was a week after I got down here. Before I installed the filter I was having a hard time combing my hair when it was completely saturated with conditioner.

Only $17. I prefer to buy in person though, because it's easier to check the package to see what tools or whatever you might need.

If you're renting, you should be able to either swap it back to the original, swap it to another standard showerhead, or convince your landlord it's an upgrade.

If you're short, i suggest you bribe a tall and steady handed person to install it. It's pretty easy if you can reach, and most shower heads are shipped with the washers and Teflon tape you need to install.

You don't wanna do that. If you twist that pipe, which threads into another pipe, you're going to either tighten or loosen that connection. Over-tightening can break it completely. Loosening can cause a leak.

Any leak behind a wall is a really, really bad thing. Even if it's one drip every couple of hours, it can potentially cause $1,000's of dollars of damage.

Best bet is to get a removable showerhead. You can shop around and find one cheaper, please don't go messing with plumbing.

That said, this didn’t help my skin. This shower head paired with Malibu C shampoo and conditioner helped my hair though. I am actually getting a whole resident water softener installed Wednesday because my skin cannot take it anymore. I was having horrible break outs, my face is constantly peeling and the derm told me I know have contact dermatitis from the water + using my regular skincare routine that contains actives. My skin was HORRIBLE and about 2 weeks ago I stopped getting my face wet in the shower and have only been washing my face with distilled water and using only a little moisturizer and rose water toner and very minimal concealer to let it heal. My guess is if you are also breaking out more frequently, you might have a damaged moisture barrier like me. :( such a pain in the ass but my skin is finally healing. I also purchased a water testing kit and it showed my water to be EXTREMELY hard (500 range). This might help verify if it is actually your water causing you problems, though I would bet money you are spot on.

Honestly, since you said this started when you moved I think this is all you need. Hard water can cause havoc on your hair: can lead to scalp buildup, dandruff, and hair loss. I think just making this small change will make a huge difference.

I also think you should go back to getting a trim every other month.

Lastly, don’t underestimate the impact biotin can have on your hair! I personally recommend biotin and ashwagandha. The later makes a huge difference on your stress levels, which leads to decreased cortisol production, which means less dandruff!
