> I get it's stupid but who here wouldn't try to sell more of their own product and thus make more money?

here's a radical idea: how about they compete on price and quality instead of trying to lock their customers in through dishonest ways?

as I said, it's not like this "feature" is clearly displayed on the product box. a lot less fewer people would buy it if they realized upfront that they can't buy any cup they want and must stick to the more expensive ones made by keurig.

someone goes to the store and has a choice between a keurig and a tassimo. if you told them the keurig forces you to use the keurig cups, and the tassimo lets you use any cup made by anyone, so you can go on amazon and get cheaper coffee cups, do you think that would maybe influence the decision of which machine to buy?

just read all the negative reviews from people who bought this to later discover they can't use third party cups anymore.

For a long while I was approximating a latte using pod espresso from a Nespresso Vertuoline and Aeroccino Plus. It made a serviceable drink; not cafe-quality, but quick and easy. Plus, the whole setup cost me less than $200 after a Black Friday sale a couple years ago. My biggest issue with this setup was that the froth from the Aeroccino isn't great and I found that it didn't get the milk quite hot enough. I also was getting sick of the same, limited variety of espresso pods available from the Vertuoline (as of right now, only two types).

Recently I decided to step up my coffee game a bit. For the last 4 months I've been making double lattes using a Breville Dual Boiler I bought off eBay for about $800. The first few weeks I was using a hand-me-down Baratza Encore, thinking that all warnings on /r/coffee about using the Encore for espresso were just people being finicky. I was wrong -- brewing espresso is straight-up EXTREMELY sensitive to grind. After upgrading to a Baratza Vario, I've been happily making single-origin espresso every morning. All told, I ended up dropping about $1500 on this setup.

After a lot of browsing I realized that there's an almost continuous spectrum of home-use espresso machines from low- to high-end. From my perspective, the Breville was was a nice compromise between price and features. It's not a Rocket or La Marzocco and I'm sure there's a significant difference in quality, but I'm still learning and it works well-enough.

Hope you find something that meets your needs!

It's anyone keeping track of potential profit in a hall of fame in this sub?

Most Americans have one of these or one of these for making coffee.

They can also be used for making tea or just for heating water. I have a kettle to use on the top of our gas range and the coffee maker actually is faster - though it only heats to 180 - 190 F or something like that.

For study:

  • USMLE First Aid is probably the most popular book for studying for the boards (end of year 2).
  • Seconding the idea of noise-cancelling headphones.
  • Single-serve Keurig. If you want to buy her K-cups, the Green Mountain Nantucket Blend is my personal favorite. However, I hate how terrible K-cups are for the environment, so you can buy her a reusable filter if you want.

Such as the Nescafe Dolce Gusto or Bosch Tassimo. Or this versatile Bunn that takes several different single serve pods.

I was kind of suggesting, in a roundabout way, that you could search the net and find what you were after pretty easily.

It didn't take me long at all, and there will be options beyond what I've linked in either of these comments.

Dude, $400? Nespresso is having a holiday sale (or buy at Costco if you have a card).

They are basically including a milk frother for free.

DO NOT BUY THE BIG POD NESPRESSO. It is Nespresso's way of accomodating the US market with shit. You get two pods worth of espresso and it's lukewarm after a few minutes. The heat coil in them isn't good enough for the larger pods. So it's stupid. They are probably going to have to completely redesign it.

That being said, the smaller nespresso machines like the Pixie are great.

Don't Buy the old frother! It's crap and will last 2-3 years before you throw it in the trash. IT burns milk too fast and stains the bottom. The new one is much softer on the milk. The new one is easier to wash too.

I also had the nespresso that combined the milk frother with the unit (a stand) and it was a bit of a waste. I ended up buying a capsule stand anyway.

There are several options, but this one (even though it doesn't have reviews yet) seems like the best, because it comes with a tamper. And the other that does, costs $100! Crazy.

Most of the negative reviews are probably from people with crappy grinders. Seems like you already have a good one?

---

Despite the hate Nespresso gets from a lot of people, my girlfriend loves it, and so do I, when I'm feeling lazy. It's so nice to scrub your eyes in the morning, look at the 20 minute setup for pulling shots(I do pour over myself), and say, I'd rather click a button today. I'm guessing that's how she feels daily. And that's ok!

---

I could keep going, but I don't want to ramble. Hope this helps.

Thank you, WestCoastRoasting, for your help! I think I'm going for the B&D Programmable single-cup:

I have obtained a limited edition 'cinnamon red' b70 keurig.
This:

It is used, but near impossible to find in this color. Any suggestions on pricing for a local sale?

And if you like the k cup individual coffee silliness this is the better option:

I'm drinking a cup right now so it seemed very appropriate to chime in.

I wouldn't call myself a coffee snob in the slightest sense of the word. I have a Tassimo while everyone else in the world has a Keurig. It's cool, though, cause my Tassimo makes coffee and other fun drinks and that's all I'm really in it for. My coffee preference is Gevalia French Vanilla. I also have some espresso discs, iced coffee, and caramel macchiato-type discs.

If someone puts coffee in front of me, chances are I'll drink it. I'm truly not picky. I only have one, maybe two cups a day.

I kind of want to have a real coffee maker so I can get interesting coffee and grind it but I'm also kind of lazy.
