I have had some hamsters over the last few years and I had a question about wheels. Obviously we always make sure they have access to at least one wheel (usually multiple, because they have multiple connected cages - very spoiled). At some point we got this. All the Syrians we've ever used it with (we've had dwarves but don't let them use this, they seem too small) absolutely love it and abandon all their usual wheels for exclusive use of the Revolution.
Anyway, the Revolution we are using now is getting kind of old and we were going to replace it. It seems the company doesn't really sell them anymore (it's kind of a shitty cage by itself, but if you hook it up to regular cages, it's great), and while I am still able to find them here and there online, it got me thinking about why the hams like it so much and any alternatives.
So, getting to the point (finally), it seems to me that the size of wheels you normally see for hamsters makes most regular sized Syrians arch their backs to run in it. What do you think about this? Do you think maybe that's why they like the (really big) Revolution wheel? Do you think it would be better for them physically to have a bigger wheel? I was considering buying our current ham a rat-sized wheel.
Or am I just thinking way too much about this? Thanks!
I had a silent spinner, but after 6 months it was no longer silent, kept making an irritating squeaky noise. Tried everything to fix it, but the noise persisted. This wheel is spacious and completely silent. All I hear is the pitter patter of my ham's feet on it! He loves it and there is no risk of him falling out! My only negative is that it is a bit annoying to clean!
