Depends on fabric, but very few rain jackets are BIFL, even from them. Most rain jackets use a DWR coating on top of 2-3 layers to achieve their water resistance and some element of breathability, which will inevitably wear out, leading to the jacket wetting out in sustained rain. You can mitigate this with gentle handling and using a DWR treatment wash on occasion, but it is an inherent fault with multilayer fabrics. If you want actual, true water protection, a single layer fabric like this one will do it. It's ugly though.

This one is really cheap and packs away, I love mine. They also make an insulated version and both come in a lot of colors.

Rainy day running errands in town.

Fit / color / style feed back welcome.

Jeans - Dyer and Jenkins Cassidy in Indigo. (One of my big purchases of 2016)

Boots - Some brand named Vikings I got from a shoe store that was going out of business.

T-shirt - Sharp shirter Shark punch. Yes I'm ashamed I own it so I hide the graphic print under the hoodie, but I love the color and the way it fits me perfectly.

Hoodie - From Old navy, got it years ago

Jacket - Got it from Amazon from a Chinese maker years ago. It's no longer available, but this is the closest one that's still up on amazon.

What about the new Frogg Toggs Xtreme Lite instead of the Ultra-Lite 2? Unless that is what you're referring to. Can be found for $35 on Amazon. It's a bit heavier than the Ultra-Lite 2, should be more durable and has a better fit. I just bought the last one in blue\large that Amazon sold itself, but others seem to have it for same price.

I'm thinking this for a light summer/spring jacket.

Any suggestions on where to find a lightweight military style jacket around $50? I recently ordered this one from amazon, but I am returning it because the sleeves are way too short.

Frogg Toggs Xtreme Lite Rain Jacket, Blue/Hi-Vis

Have it. Love it.

It’s a little heavier than you’re looking for, but it’s super cheap and fully waterproof.

You may not have heard that Frogg Toggs makes more than just the super cheap Tyvek jacket.

Their new Xtreme Light jacket is getting some excellent reviews.

I really like this general style of jacket and I was shopping around for one a few days ago. These are what I was looking at.

I ended up buying the third but promptly repackaged it for refund because the build quality was hot garbage (a hole and fake buttons that were barely glued on) and it was too small.

So if anyone has any suggestions along these lines I'd be grateful for that.

Haha honestly what I was thinking too. I feel like it'd be 9/10 without the hood, compared to (in my opinion) the 7/10 it is now. I do like the gray one but I thought navy would look good with the light brown accents.

Thanks for your comment btw. Just being kinda insecure bc i assume name brand is a big issue when in reality it's no big deal..

I do like this one from them.

Do you know of any good brands that sell these types of jackets $100 or less? My issue is mostly money. Working at Mcdonalds won't give me full banks lol.

Anybody have any experience with this jacket?

I've been looking for a higher quality version of this jacket and at $48.99 after the sale, this seems like it could be it.

Some questions:

  1. Looking into buying a harrington jacket: Orvis or Ben Sherman?. I'm kinda leaning to the Orvis, but I'm not sure of the fit. I'm a 36/38 on jackets, so I'm going for a small.

  2. Also for light rain I'd like an anorak to carry on my bag. Does anybody have any info regarding Charles River Apparel?. Seems cheap and waterproof enough for my uses. Also, anything from amazon has to be "amazon global" eligible, so that limits my options a bit.

  3. I'm buying a pair of Nike Killshot 2's, and I'm wary of sizing. I'm an 8 on regular Chucks, but my 8 Clark's DB is a bit big for my tastes. Would a 7.5 on the killshots be ok?

  4. Do taupe suede Bass bucks look ok with khaki chinos? I don't have a picture right now, but this is pretty close to what I mean. Mine are british khaki Dockers alphas.

  5. Bonus, regarding the taupe bucks, what kind of belt do you wear with them? I'm using a dark brown leather belt that matches most of my leather shoes, but for the lighter bucks I'm not sure.

    Thanks!

I'm looking at buying [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Collection-Pack-N-Go-Charles-River-Apparel/dp/B000BB9FTK/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1397141022&sr=1-1&keywords=anorak+jacket) jacket, and have been warned that Charles River runs huge. I typically have a 15.5" neck, 34-35 sleeves and a 31 waist (6'3", 175lbs). Can anyone provide insight as to what size I should order? The sizing info on Amazon was generic, and didn't help.
