How far in the future?

For emulation, no. Most phones already have some form of hdmi out. It doesn't have gaming controls like a bluetooth controller or the GPD XD/Win.

For $100, you could get one of these:

I really don't see their target market. People who have the money to pay for a high-end cell phone, but too cheap to buy a laptop?

If I'm going to carry a laptop-sized thing around with me, I might as well have a regular laptop, which is only a little more expensive.

Key spacing is tight but workable, I like the pinky finger cursor placement, very reminiscent of the Surface key cover. Key travel is comparable to most decent compact keyboards with decent enough feedback. It has a slightly raised rear which is nice in these smaller boards. Not earth shattering but a leap from swiping on a phone.

Pairs nicely, works well in a BT noisy environment but the range is a little short. YMMV on that one.

The built in stand is passable for landscape phones but struggles with bigger things, the low weight of the unit being the issue. But I suppose I really had to work at finding stuff to make it overbalance to be fair.

Works on my lap, no tea tray required.

Battery life is hard to say, I haven't had it that long.

The folded size is fine in a coat pocket, you would not what to sit down quickly with it in your jeans pocket due to the nearly 9 inch length.

Smaller and lighter than the Journo model I have been using for a couple of years now (6x4x0.7 inches, 10x4x0.35 unfolded), but I don't know whether it will supplant it in my work bag load out. However it will sit in the pockets of a sports jacket/blazer (9x2.2x0.6) and be inconspicuous. Fits in tool roll nicely for those budding artists/archaeologists/serial killersanatomy fans. I haven't dropped it yet, and I certainly would not what to get this one wet.

I always worry when the chiclet keys are listed as chocolate in the product description but its fine.

If anyone was looking for similar in this longways folding design this one is being used by one on my colleagues and is pretty decent if you are used to the crApple magic keyboard type.

Do you really rely on the Google drives and stuff? Will also try to invest on that.

Anyways thank you man! You solidifed my answer! I’ll be getting one probably a week before enrollment!

Also, good luck on finishing college! I’m just about to start

Also! Is this the keyboard that you bought for the ipad air 3?

By and large the response is alright, even when watching videos, but there is some latency at times. I think the screen renders vertically though so the delay when it does happen can be seen in terms of frame rate drops on the bottom quarter of the screen. I don't find it prohibitive though.

The Bluetooth keyboard is honestly fantastic quality. I picked it up online for around 35 bucks? Far cheaper than the Surface type cover, and far better quality too.

Edit: I think this is the keyboard

It's the 2nd gen. Actually, I was planning on keeping it. But I am interested in the s5e, maybe I will give that one a try. Also, are you interested in the brydge keyboard? I can bundle it in with the ipad and the case. $520?

The keyboard is worth $130 and is practically new.

I use this ZAGG Flex, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s pretty versatile, and the keys feel good to me.

Writer Only? No problem.

Word and Pages are fantastic on the device. I’ve been using PowerPoint recently to make decks and it’s worked rather well. Note Office doesn’t have every feature but it has just enough to get it done.

I replaced my Apple Folio keyboard with the brydge.

Lastly if it’s your only device, I’d probably recommend the 12.9 - and make sure you get a good mouse. I have the MX Master 2s and looks like the 3 was just released. I recommend this because 5 of 7 buttons can be programmed in iPadOS 13.

Note looks like the MX Master 3 comes out on the 17th...

u/Way2square2behip · 1 pointr/ipad

I haven’t found a keyboard for my 12.9 that I recommend. However, I haven’t tried Logitech’s Smart Connector keyboards. That’s mostly because of the problems I’ve read about in reviews. For example, these for the Slim Combo on Apple’s site. Some people really like them, but I read too many negatives to be willing to spend the money and find out what reality would be for me.

So, I’m still searching for I feel is an ideal keyboard. I’m currently using this one. It does an okay job, but I wish it were connected instead of Bluetooth and had a slim version. But at $50, I can live with it while I keep my eye out for something better.

I see that the price for the cover and the pen on Amazon is way cheaper compared to the one on microsoft store. Is it because it is a different model?

So I don’t think it’s still in production, but you may be able to find it at a Best Buy.

This is the one in the picture: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Pro-Type-Cover/dp/B00KHR58ZS

And this is the Burgundy one: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Signature-Cover-Burgundy/dp/B07174ZVC1

This is the one I use, but there are plenty of others available. It comes with a case that doubles as a stand for the phone or tablet and can be charged with a USB cable so you don't have to keep buying batteries for it.

u/spingo · 1 pointr/WeAreTheMusicMakers

You can still run a lot on an old, old iPad. I have my mom's old iPad 2 and it runs more music software than I expected. Especially if you're just doing song sheets. Maybe someone you know has an ancient iPad in a box they'd give you cheap/free.

You can get a bluetooth footpedal to turn the pages while you play, too.

I wasn't actually recommending a case more something like this or this or a full size usb keyboard
Like I said more to keep up with but with a case stand could be a decent solution.

For functionality i'd go with something usb based if possible the bluetooth stuff all has a annoying delay since it switches the bt radio off after a few minutes of inactivity. It's only a few seconds and bt keyboards are still very popular so that part may not be a big issue to you.

The startup delay and occasional ghost keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeying of BT keyboards have killed them as an option for me. You can convert any usb or wireless usb full size or mini keyboard with something like this or this and avoid those problems but then you do gain a dongle to keep up with.

It's always something but it would still be nice if they just natively had a keyboard physical keyboard but it doesn't seem to be much on the market like that.

It's like trying to get a verizon flip phone with LTE they exist but you won't like the compromises you have to make to get one (only one on the market and it doesn't have a flashlight).

u/SurfaceDockGuy · 1 pointr/Surface

Sorry for the frustrating experience here. Can you try plugging the type cover into another Surface and vice versa?

A temporary workaround would be to get a 3rd-pary Bluetooth keyboard that clicks into the same magnetic port like this:

https://www.amazon.com/1byone-Microsoft-Ultra-Slim-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B01LRR2GJC/

They are OK, but the trackpad isn't quite as responsive as OEM and you will have to charge the keyboard via micro-USB cable from time to time since it doesn't get power from the Surface port.
