Good lord, it sounds like you ought to be reading George R.R. Martin for his description of feasts. I seem to remember a cookbook based on it....
looks...
Oh gee. There's two.

And there's apparently more where that came from, for instance:
And I know I've stumbled across Harry Potter ones.....
OK, this isn't meant to be condescending, but I was looking for a learn to cook book to help teach my daughter and picked up a second hand copy of Usborne's "Beginners Cookbook", which I have found to be really, really good. It does presume you're a small person, so the supplies list won't be much use for a good chef's knife, but it really is an easy to follow guide which presumes no cooking knowledge.
I have this Hunger Games cookbook on my books wishlist. It's slightly over $4 used.
I love, love to read!
Ok, well this one got me to cook - before I went through this (it's meant for children and what they describe as "kitchen shy adults"), I was terrible at cooking. I used to do ready meals because my own cooking was a health risk to myself and anyone who ventured near it.

I really enjoyed the food-talk in the Harry Potter books - which apparently there is an "unofficial" cookbook that I did not know about until this thread piqued my curiosity.
The Hunger Games also had some good food talk (lamb and plum stew, yum). And wouldn't you know: Hunger Games cookbook.
I guess I'd just never thought of the idea of a book-based cookbook before. But it looks like other folks have :-)
