Dar-Us-Salam located at 486 Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn.

They have a wide collection. If you are looking for easy-to-read Arabic, I would say it is best to read an English translation separately along with a Qur'an with large Arabic font, since the translations are usually by each line. One good translation is the Oxford World Classics edition of the Qur'an, by M.A.S. Abdel Haleem. It's highly recommended.

If you want both English and Arabic, the most comprehensive exposure I've personally had is with the following two:

  1. Holy Qur'an by Abdullah Yusuf Ali - It has a great commentary of historical narratives in addition to the translation.

  2. The Noble Qur'an by Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan - It's pretty comprehensive in explaining the translation.

All 3 books can be found at that book store. You may call them to confirm, just in case.

Alternately, I have one of these which I snagged for half off when Gracious Home was going out of business. It works pretty well & is like a glorified salad spinner. I don’t think you could put more than a pair of jeans & a shirt in there, though, so perhaps that other one will be better for you.

I couldn't be happier with the Coway 1512. Now when I wake up I can breathe with both nostrils! The lowest speed is basically silent unless your head is 1 foot from the device. I leave it on auto which is cool because it senses particles in the air and temporarily goes to higher speeds until the air is clear again. Funnily enough, if you fart near it, it will detect that and spin up. It also pretty thoroughly eliminates odor in general.

My only complaints are:

  1. The only 3rd party filter I've found for it has bad reviews so you're generally stuck with the first party filters which can seem expensive but they last a long time so it's not terrible

  2. When I moved across the country, the fan became unbalanced which made the device loud. Personally I blame the movers since they broke/lost a bunch of my stuff but that still does indicate a failure mode of the device.

  3. The light on the top is a fucking flood light that will blind people up to 5 miles away. I taped over it.

If I had a magic wand and could make one change to this device I'd want washable hepa filters but from what I've read, washable hepa filters don't exist at all so its not a shortcoming of this specific device.

Finally, I'm not affiliated with them and benefit in no way from this post. The Amazon link above is not an affiliate link. I'm just a happy customer who was surprised by the improvement in my life when I got a hepa filter.

I'm kind of wrong since a lot of the Protestant denominations are close to Arian Christianity of the first half of the first millenium.

The Virgin Mary is the continuation of Ishtar and the Mother Goddess of ancient religions. A lot of the ancient art of Jesus and his disciples has their hands in gang like shapes. Some of the interpretations I've read say the angles are the same as numbers in the measurement of the lunar month. A lot of the numbers in the Bible, and especially the Book of Matthew have links to astronomy. 12, 7, 40. The shape of the Vatican is pretty close to the shape of ancient temples. Catholocism and Orthodoxy have priests like the ancient temple priests who bless people, etc. The saints and the angels are the polytheistic gods of old. the saints are similar to ancestor worship too.

This is a really good book. For almost a thousand years the largest form of Christianity was practiced outside of the Roman Empire and stretched from Mesopotamia to the Pacific Ocean.

You can find other books too. Judaism/Christianity is just a continuation of ancient Hinduism and Zoroastronism with a mix of local culture. Most of the gods from greece to ancient india are almost always portrayed in the same shapes which are constellations of the zodiac.

It all goes back to measuring

and the recording of astronomy in poetry form

If you get one of these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005FD7Z82/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469896410&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=The+Laundry+POD&dpPl=1&dpID=31valjx5fVL&ref=plSrch

When you wash, a little color safe bleach and a heavy scoop of borax. And after washing, rinse, rinse, rinse (most important part). Then use something like this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002QSXK60/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1469896618&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX205_SY296_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=clothing+wringer&dpPl=1&dpID=21YceYbYTnL&ref=plSrch

You can't hand-wring shirts-it fucks up their sizing and fit.

Rinse again and wring again. Straighten shirt to minimize wrinkles. Hang on line (fire escape) to dry.

Your shirts will last a decade looking brand new.

For white noise I was using the Marpac Dohm for a while and really liked it. I finally just received my Kickstater award for the SNOOZ and have been using it for the last couple of nights, and I like it even more. It's lighter and smaller and the sound is a bit fuller, not to mention the fact that it can be controlled with a phone app.

I am selling one that I bought last year because I was gifted a more powerful one when my friend moved to Denver. It's this model.

Selling for a very reasonable price because my apartment is small and I have nowhere to store it. I need it gone.

PM me for price. I'm sure we can work something out.

Old Penn Station https://www.amazon.com/dp/0805079254/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_X.O1DbGHSJA48

The old penn station is a fascinating story. This mistake lead nyc to create and preserve old landmarks.

No problem, and let us know if you check it out! Also, the book "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman" got me interested in this stuff. If you've never read it, I highly recommend it - really amazing guy with incredible stories.

The book Gotham is really solid. I had the author as a professor in college and he was a fountain of awesome information from the 1600's to present day. It also includes world events that affect the city in one way or another. Last I checked he was working on Gotham 2, from 1900-present day.

So it looks like the one I’ve bought is an old model now. But I’d check this brand and see if they have a new one at a price you like.

If you ever feel like a 1,900-page tome, though, the little-known The Enclyclopedia of New York City is amazing. Actually, it's only 1,392 pages. It weighs 7.6 pounds. It has everything — streets, policitians, artists, buildings, companies, lots of really interesting trivia. The second edition came out in 2010 and isn't cheap, but the first edition is still available for just a few dollars.

There's a cookbook: https://smile.amazon.com/Bubbys-Brunch-Cookbook-Favorite-Restaurant/dp/0345511638

If it's the same Buddy's? Sure you can find it online, or something similar, with a little digging if it's in the book.

I'll also plug two books I just finished on the commute - In a House of Lies by Rankin and The Misbehavior of Markets by Mandelbrot, both of which were brilliant!

They haven't turned mine on yet either. Just get one of these in the interim.

Have you looked into putting one of these in your bedroom?

I've had the marpac below for 5+ years without any issues. I can't imagine sleeping in the city without it.

I live in old building and I see cockroaches every once in a while in garbage area, but not so much in my apt. However, a few years ago I started seeing a few (maybe 3 in a month) so I got the below product. I think it works well because I see maybe one a year now, and every once in a while a dead one.

For your first go, i’d use four tubes, to make sure you get it under control, but now i use maybe 2 tubes evert 4 months for “protection.”

Get some of this stuff:

https://www.amazon.com/advion-Plungers-Cockroach-Insecticide-Australian/dp/B00730QW70/

Lay it down, just in pea sized amounts on a piece of paper and place it under your sink and/or in the corners of your kitchen. If you have roaches, they will come out and be obliterated within a couple of weeks. I just moved into a new apartment on 145th and I am doing this just a precaution - my last apartment was a 5th floor walkup (im in a 6th floor now) and we ended up getting a small infestation when they started doing construction on the apartment below us.
