In the dashcam world there are two very specific types of dash cams.

  • Excellent video quality, Fair build quality, Lackluster parking mode dash cams: These are built for new dash cam buyers wants. Lackluster parking mode isn't bad, it just lacks one or more of the features of Excellent parking mode. Fair build quality, minor bugs/errors to be expected - keep up with firmware updates expected.

  • Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, Good/Fair video quality dash cams: These are built for veteran dash cam buyers wants. Excellent build quality, few if any flaws/bugs, maintenance is largely optional, and more functional bells and whistles. Excellent parking mode: Automatic Engage/Disengage; Buffered - able to record a few seconds before and after G sensor and/or Motion sensor activation (like a time machine;) Built in (or Recommended hardwire kit) Low voltage cut off feature (Adjustable) Voltage/Time based. Good/Fair video quality is far from Excellent, you should check it. Good video quality does exist in this dash cam type. Excellent video quality does exist in this dash cam type (expensive though.)

Both types can be good dash cams, depending upon what you want them to do.

    What are your values?

  • Video quality?

  • Build quality?

  • Parking mode?

I really suggest fully researching the dash cam you want, and several dash cams you don't. Buyers remorse is real in the dash cam world, it is partially due to buyers value shift after owning/using the dash cam after a while.

When/if you get the Viofo understand that many are reporting the quality "red back" 3M sticky pad might be a knockoff, so in high heat it could come off. I would suggest getting a standard low profile suction mount, which, depending on the mount, will allow you to rotate the camera should you get pulled over.

The G1W comes with a 360 suction mount, which is great. The A119 is fixed in the front position. The camera lens itself moves, but if you want to rotate it 180 during a road interaction or cop interaction it wont allow that.

The suction cup for my mount on my most recent G1W came off, and after it came off I noticed it was never really put on well to begin with. I used GOOP automotive, which has always worked well for me in the past (it kept my side mirror on for 3 years after I accidentally knocked it off) but it couldn't keep the cup to the mount, so you may want to invest in a better mount.

The slot used for the G1W and A118/A119 is the same. I had an old mount I got on ebay a while back when my mount broke that fit the bill. So, if you want to be able to rotate your A119 toward you for any reason I suggest getting a half decent suction mount. $8 on Amazon should fit the bill. That should work with G1W and A119.

EDIT: As an aside, if you're looking for a good phone mount, for GPS and whatnot, I highly recommend this one. It's awesome. I've burned through like 5 phone mounts until I found this one, and this thing is great. You open up the clasp and just press your phone into it and it locks on. The suction mount is a bit sticky, but it holds great. It has been a godsend for me being a road warrior.

That is a lot of money, but the magnetic removal looks good and Costco has a good return policy.

My first cam was a Garmin for a bit more than that Cobra and it's still the main cam in my DD. It's got speed/gps built in which I love.

For price though, we bought an Anker one for like $50 and it works great. It has a good and sensitive away mode that triggers if the car gets bumped which my Garmin doesn't have. Honestly, if you go with a name brand you'll be fine, or a not so known brand with good LEGIT reviews. Just gotta get that cam rolling to protect you from shitty people, and to entertain us :)

Roav DashCam A1, this one's in my wife's car, got two for front and back. $55 https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B076GYGVY5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_vjcRCbF7EZS2B

The cf-100 in the side bar is not 1080p rear, only 720, but it does have a Sony CMOS in the front and that gives very good forward 1080p video.

You are pretty much better off buying 2x a118c cams for front and back

Or spend a little more, 275 locally less import from Korea for a Lukas lk-7950 which would be a Sony CMOS and 1080p front and back, capacitor, WiFi, good software for android iPhone and PC and very reliable.

Or get 2 cheaper a118c for 75 dollars on Amazon for prime shipping

50 from China

Or 58 from China

You'd need longer cables and a better dual port charger but they don't cost much.

and 2x usb cables: http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-15-Feet-Mini-B-Ferrite-105450/dp/B002KL8N6A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464049051&sr=8-1&keywords=monoprice+15+foot+usb

A118c doesn't come with an SD card so pick up a MLC micro SD card, there are several on Amazon I've been using transcend high endurance the 32gb have been good for me.

At this point in time running 2 different cameras is the only way to get true 1080p front and back for cheap.

I have a Rexing V1 and I am happy with it. I think I’ve had it for a year and a half now and it’s been working fine. Video quality is in line for its price range. I live in a hot part of the country and it’s held up. I imagine the rear camera version is just as good.

If you aren’t happy with it, you can always return it. But IMO it’s a good bang for the buck camera.

Also, I would recommend to get the Rexing hardwire kit with it. Super easy to instal and hides your wires. Let me know if you have any question on wiring it into your fuse box.
