I bought a tech21 check case. It has a good grip to me, but it's also a 30-40 dollar case. I have been looking at some of the cases on Amazon trying to decide if I want to throw down some money and try some other cases to see if I'd like them better.

Since there are no tempered glass screen protectors worth looking at right now and they tend to be very expensive for how crap they are. I was looking at getting some Spigen S8 Plus NeoFlex film covers

Since they are Spigen I am hoping a case from Spigen will fit with the film covers and not cause the edges to pucker and unstick.

So I am looking at Spigen Rugged Armor S8 Plus

Along with some other cases from Spigen.

Plus considering the SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle PRO

But I have no basis off which to judge if those cases will be grippy enough to match the Tech21 case I have currently. I would like to get the Beetle Pro with the Spigen film covers (don't know if they will work together), because the holster with the pro would be nice to have in some circumstances with the phone. Kind of debating on getting two cases since they'd almost be about the same cost as my Tech21.

If anyone reads this thread and has input on any of those or ones they think might better match the Tech21 Evo Check, please let me know.

I tried a wet install from Amazon too (Yootech) and it's decent, but I don't prefer it to screen protectors I had in the past. It has slight orange peel to it, and picks up lines/scratches easily as it seems a bit soft (softer material makes for better edge install).

On other phones I've had good luck with PET type screen protectors, not sure if there's a good one for s8 out since the curved screen has been difficult for many brands to make a quality solution (harder material, tougher to install on edges). The one option out there that wraps around the phone is the Invisible Defender:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y999MWZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T2_9UHGzb4FTG62R

I prefer the dry install types so I might give this one a try if the price comes down. Dry is always harder to install, I'm guessing more so on this phone, but I've been good at it over years of installing for friends and such.

Look at the theme store find one you like, find some widgets on the app store that fit your needs. Look for icon packs. Here is my case, it is very thin and has a lip on the front to protect the screen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP1WB92/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apap_kkDbSt5RI7XQm. Just explore the settings and apps you have to make this phone right for you is what it takes honestly. Enjoy it though, it is a great phone, loving it.

Ive been using the Spigen Rugged Armor Galaxy S8 Plus Case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XNW4ZVJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_ARiAMD6HF9ELr and love it. It keeps the phone relatively thin and works well with the look of the phone. It is the perfect balance between protection and size in my opion. It feels great in hand (Ladies!) And adds some much needed grip. Definitely recommend it. The only thing I'd add is a divider between the camera and finger print scanner like some of the Samsung cases.

I really want to the alcantara case as I love that suede feeling but am really hoping it drips in price a little.

u/dstaller · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Naked naked? The glossy slippery back is tough to hold it's not even so much about magnetic strength but just it's lack of friction. I'd recommend getting a dbrand skin or something similar for the back. Will hold much better and frankly just looks better while not having fingerprints smearing. Also better grip.

I use something similar to THIS with a dbrand skinned S8 and it holds fine. Slips otherwise.

u/mrmessma · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I have had good luck using Tech Armor Ballistic Glass (or any other for that matter).

Take off the included edge adhesive/clean with alcohol

And used this LOCA glue

There are many LOCA glue youtubes that show easy ways to apply.

In my opinion it's as good as a White Dome for much less cost. I have no sensitivity issues or complaints.

Not trying to spam this, just spreading the good word of my pleasant experience.

u/muffinoverlord · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I just ordered this one. It has great reviews, it's got a durable nylon weave instead of just rubber, and I am pretty sure it's on the approved lists. Also, the color will be a cool counterpoint to my black phone. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerLine-Durability-Including-ChromeBook/dp/B01LNAAEJ2?th=1&psc=1

u/jhchuu · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have the liquid crystal case in black for the s8+. Seems to essentially be the same case as the liquid air minus the print design on the back. I actually prefer the look of the smooth back. Profile of the case is pretty thin and i get pretty good grip. Overall i think it looks good if you are trying to go for a minimalistic look.

u/Kaos7heory · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I've been using this style of Spigen case for several different phones that I've used (iPhone 6s Plus, Note 7, LG G5, iPhone 7 Plus, and now Galaxy S8+) and have been very pleased with it.

Doesn't add a lot of thickness to the phone overall, and protects the phone adequately provided you're not dragging it behind your car. I've dropped my S8+ once (onto a tiled floor) and the phone survived without a scratch.

For me personally, I also like the pseudocarbon-fiber design on the top and bottom of the case. Reminds me of the days when I had a Droid RAZR HD MAXX (which had an actual carbon-fiber back) and didn't feel like it needed a case.

u/N97PU · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I use the Spigen Rugged Armor for my S8. I personally like minimalist cases as I don't like the feel of a really bulky phone. This one is great because it absorbs (reasonable) impacts well and has a raised lip at the top and bottom so I feel comfortable setting my phone down on its screen. I tried a bunch of cases for my S6 a couple years ago and always came back to this one. Naturally I bought the S8 version when I got my new phone, and have loved it.

I'm going to keep all the original accessories even the earbuds in the box to increase resale value.

I don't use fastcharge. Generally with rechargeable batteries a slower charge rate = more cycles, increased battery longevity, slower reduction in capacity. This def applies to 18650/14500/10440 LiIon cells used in drones, flashlights, vapes, etc.

So I like the Anker IQ series. Non Quick Charge:

[Upgraded] Anker 2-Port 24W USB Wall Charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LCDT7FC/

Quick Charge 3.0 version, I think this will work: Quick Charge 3.0, Anker 18W USB Wall Charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016LO4UTA/

u/ImGeoX · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Spigen has never failed me with my previous phones so I stuck with them on my S8 and I must say this case is even better than their previous ones. it keeps it sleek looking and thin, and has a nice finish that feels absolutely awesome in the hands and also the case edges on the screen extend out a bit so if you lay your phone face down, the flat surface won't touch your screen.

For screen protectors I had the hardest time finding a tempered glass as really none of them stayed on well. I just didn't feel confident in any that I saw so I decided to go back the film screen protectors. Skinomi has always had a good reputation for their screen protectors. This is a wet apply, so its easy to place and it is case friendly. I managed to put it on there perfectly and I'm am really satisfied with the results. The screen still feels smooth when gliding my fingers and now I confident that it won't get scratched or break. It comes with 2 films and they offer lifetime warranty. I would say at least try it because you completely disregard it. I know everyone goes towards the tempered glass, but meh they really aren't that good. Plus with the curved edges, they just don't fit on well. Anyways, this is my opinion and suggestion. Let me know if you decide to go with this setup.

EDIT: note the links I gave you are for the S8. Not Plus. But you can find the plus versions for both.

u/Fents_Post · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Anker branded cables and charging blocks are always a great option. Look for an Anker charger that supports fast charging. They also sell car chargers that support fast charging too.

Here is an Anker that supports quick charge: https://www.amazon.com/Charge-Anker-Charger-Compatible-PowerPort/dp/B016LO4UTA/ref=sr_1_5?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1492565368&sr=1-5&keywords=anker+fast+charge

You could look into these. I plan on buying them soon cause I'm getting my S8 plus next week and I know I'm going to use this when I get the phone. It wraps around the edges so you don't get any lift effects.

u/jissyloo · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Had both the Anker and 6P as well! Glad that it still works well for the S8 now. :)

There seems to be many out now if you just search 'USB C power bank'

Here's one: https://www.amazon.com/RAVPower-20100mAh-Portable-Charger-Qualcomm/dp/B019IFIJW8/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1494786405&sr=8-11&keywords=usb+c+power+bank

u/McMadface · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have the black S8+ and usually have it in a black Ringke Slim case. The case has a rubberized texture that feels nice and is grippy. It almost looks like there isn't a case on the phone at all, with the narrow side bezels preserved.

When I travel, I slap on the Spigen Ultra Hybrid S with the kickstand for watching movies on the plane. The glossy black TPU sides and clear polycarbonate back look gorgeous on the phone but it makes the phone look like it has a bezel. It does offer more protection than the slim case, so there's a trade off.

u/lastnerdstanding · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Purchased this thin case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWSRFYM

I've usually gone with their plastic clear cases but because the phone is fairly large, I went with less bulk.

I'll have to wait to see the LED flip case. Liked it on the Note 7. I hope the notification remains fully customizable unlike the S7 version.

u/nosut · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

On Amazon you would not need to pay for shipping unless you wanted to get it faster. Since its over $25 and eligible for free shipping you would get free standard shipping which is normally around 5-7 days.

This is the amazon link

u/zeebs758 · 4 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I use the Spigen Tough Armor case and love it. I've been using it since April of 2017 for the S8+ but they do make it for the S8 as well. Never had any issues with it. I've dropped my phone a lot and its been fine. I use fingerprint scan to unlock my phone and the case helps line up my finger to do it. It doesn't cover up the bottom so it won't help you there.

u/SP1966 · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I picked up the same GLAStr Slim screen protector for my S8, here are my thoughts:

  1. Fingerprints are much more noticeable than they are on the screen with no protector.
  2. It is much more reflective than without the protector which I think contributes to number 1.
  3. Finger feel is far better than the plastic protectors, as expected.

I'm using the Spigen Liquid Crystal case and the fit is excellent! They recommend installing it with the case on and it does work great to help position the protector.

    Link to the case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP1WB92/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't think there is, or likely will be, a perfect screen protector for these curved screens. The smudging is extremely annoying to me, but not as annoying as a scratched screen would be.

I've only had it a couple days and have been waffling between keeping it and trashing it. At this point I'm going to live with it for a week or two and then decide. It's a shame that such a well designed device needs to be hidden away!
u/Citizen_V · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Hm, both methods have advantages and disadvantages. I've tried both, and here are my thoughts on each:

Property| Whitestone | DIY
---|---|----
Cost | Expensive ($50)| Can be cheap ($15-20) if you already have a UV light
Installation Difficulty| Not too hard if you watch instruction videos| Can be more difficult due to lack of nice installation kit.
Quality| Protector has no dot matrix, good oleophobic coating, and no black borders| Hard to find protector with all of Whitestone's properties. Most protectors for the S8 still have minor dot matrix, but comes with oleophobic coating and no black borders.
Research Time | None besides watching instruction videos| Recommended to read through thread to find best protector and glue to buy. This can take a significant amount of time, because many of the links go to sold out/discontinued items. Xfactor is one recommended LOCA glue that's regularly in stock.

u/Leeaxd · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I've been using this one. Not glass but wraps around the edges. Kind-of nice as in my previous experience the edge of a glass protector would catch some lint. Might be of interest to you

u/DesechableMX · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I bought this one ( i live in Mexico)

https://www.amazon.com.mx/gp/product/B06XNVPGC2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its kind of bulky compared to the slim ones but nothing that make it feel uncomfortable or big (and i also have small hands), the kickstand, at least in mine, is also black.

The only "but" i have with the case is that i dont feel it protects the screen too much but maybe that´s something that has to do with the phone factor itself and would happen with any case. Its my first "edge" phone so im used for the screen to have a "gap" with the case.

In any case, im super picky and think i might break the phone just by looking at it and this case gives me some peace of mind.

u/BillyLongstroke · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Wireless charger works great for me. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XH4X7SZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And some USB-C adapters. And I like the Spigen liquid air armor case.

u/groaner · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I ordered the Spigen Ultra Hybrid
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06XP7S564/ref=pe_386430_126088100_TE_item

I want the slimness but still have some grip. I had this case for the Note 7 when I had it and it was excellent.

u/beyondthetech · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I picked up a GPEL Tempered Glass Protector for the S8 Plus from Amazon. Went to the T-Mobile store and placed it over their demo unit and it seems to fit nicely. It's one of the few designated as "case-friendly."

u/Gr8_Whyt_G4m3r · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

The Whitestone Dome Glass screen protector supposedly does. It uses a liquid uv-cured adhesive that can fill the scratches and make them less noticeable. It's a pretty pricey protective with a complicated install process, but some people swear by it.

It's much thinner than it looks.

u/New_Rich · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

You're right - a 6" phone with a 16:9 aspect ratio is different in height vs a 5.8" Galaxy S8 with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Personally I would recommend the newest Gear VR (2017 Model) it was designed specifically for the S8 and the overall quality in terms of content and low latency makes for a much better experience IMO.

I agree, but I'm scared.

I ordered 3 cases on Amazon right when I got home. They were all $10 or $20 cases, that happened to be on sale for around $3 each (found thanks to slickdeals.com)...

Out of the three, this Ringke slim is my favorite: https://smile.amazon.com/Ringke-Precision-Fashionable-Steadfast-Bolstered/dp/B06XWSRFYM?sa-no-redirect=1&th=1

It barely adds any thickness, and keeps the same shape. I still miss seeing the gloss though :(

its this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XH4X7SZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it does indicate it should come with a charger, and it does. its a little tricky since there are 4 different versions under the listing, but people say it should do 5v or 9v on the wall adaptor (which Id expect for fast charge), and mine is only 5v.

u/sicilian504 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have one of these and while it does work great as a mount, it sure enough did kill my wireless charging. So I'd avoid that. I tried adjusting where the metal was under my case (UAG Plasma), but I noticed it didn't stay put that well unless the metal was placed in the center of my phone. So unfortunately I don't have wireless charging anymore. Which sucks because I miss just putting my phone down at night in it's cradle and being done with it.
